The adsorption characteristics have been investigated with respect to effect of pH, equilibrium isotherms, removal kinetic data, and interference of the coexisting ions. The results indicated that the Cd^2+ could be efficiently removed using MnO2 loaded D301 resin in the pH range of 3-8 from aqueous solutions with the co-existence of high concentration of alkali and alkaline-earth metals ions. The saturate adsorption capacity of the Cd^2+ was 77.88 mg/g. The adsorption process followed the pseudo first-order kinetics. The equilibrium data obtained in this study accorded excellently with the Langmuir adsorption isotherm.展开更多

An agreement of the localized bearing contact stress is gotten for these two methods, making sure that the calculation results of FEM are reliable. The loaded meshing simulations of multi-tooth FEM model were developed, and the determination of the transmission error and the maximal load distribution factor of face-gear drive under torques were given. A formula for the maximal load distribution factor was proposed. By introducing the maximal load distribution factor in multi-tooth contact zone, a method for calculating the maximal contact stress in multi-tooth contact can be given. Compared to FEM, the results of these formulae are proved to be reliable, and the relative errors are below 10%.展开更多

However, the potential of tandem blades to enlarge the design space for highly loaded axial compressors was rarely investigated in open literatures. The present work aims to show the capability of tandem blades to break the loading limit of conventional blades for highly loaded compressors. The 2D models of the maximum static pressure rise derived in previous work were validated by a large amount experimental data, which showed a good agreement. An E parameter was defined to evaluate the stall margin of compressor based on the theoretical models, which indicated that the tandem blade was able to increase the loading limit of axial compressors. A single-blade stage with a loading coefficient of 0.46(based on the blade tip rotating speed) was designed as the baseline case under the guidance of the E parameter. A tandem-blade stage was then designed by ensuring that the velocity triangles were similar to the single-blade stage. The performances of both stages were investigated experimentally. The results showed that the maximum efficiency of the tandem-blade stage was 92.8%, 1% higher than the single;the stall margin increased from 16.9% to 22.3%. Besides, the maximum pressure rise of tandem rotors was beyond the loading limit of 2D single-blade cascades, which confirmed the potential of tandem blades to break the loading limit of axial compressors.展开更多

In vitro studies have shown high local antibiotic concentration for many hours or few days after its use. Antibiotic loaded bone cement(ALBC) is helpful when treating an infection in total knee arthroplasty(TKA) revision surgery. The purpose of this paper was to review the evidence for the routine use of ALBC in TKA in the literature, its pros and cons. Many authors have recommended the use of ALBC also in primary TKA for infection prophylaxis, but the evidence based on data from National Registries, randomized clinical trials and meta-analysis suggest a protective effect of ALBC against infection when used in hips, but not(or only mild) in knees. A possible explanation to this finding is that the duration and quantity of locally elevated antibiotic levels after surgery are smaller in TKA, due to the smaller amount of cement used for fixation in TKA-only a layer in the bone surface. There are some concerns about the routine use of ALBC in primary TKA as prophylaxis against infection: Firstly, there is a risk of hypersensivity or toxicity even when the chance is highly improbable. Secondly, there is a reduction in the mechanical properties of the cement, but this can be probably neglected if the antibiotic is used in low doses, not more than 1 g per 40 g cement package. Another significant concern is the increased economic cost, which could be overlooked if there were enough savings in treating fewer prosthetic infections. Finally, there is also a risk of selection of antibiotic-resistant strains of bacteria and this could be the main concern. If used, the choice of the antibiotic mixed in ALBC should consider microbiological aspects(broad antimicrobial spectrum and low rate of resistant bacteria), physical and chemical aspects(thermal stability, high water solubility), pharmacological characteristics(low risk to allergic reactions or toxicity) and economic aspects(not too expensive). The most commonly used antibiotics in ALBC are gentamicin, tobramycin and vancomycin. In conclusion, there is a paucity of randomized clinical trials in the use of ALBC in primary TKAs and the actual evidence of the effect of ALBC in reducing the risk of infection is insufficient. This, in addition to concerns about patient safety, risks of increase in the antibiotic resistance of microorganisms and the increase in costs in the procedure, lead us to recommend a cautious use of ALBC, perhaps only in high-risk patients(immunocompromised, morbidly obese, diabetic and patients with previous history of fracture or infection around the knee) unless the benefits of ALBC use were fully proven. Meanwhile, the rigorous use of peri-operative prophylactic systemic antibiotics and adoption of efficient antiseptic procedures and improved surgical techniques must be considered the gold standard in infection prevention in TKA surgery.展开更多

This paper presents a dynamic model to investigate the skidding of a rolling element bearing under radial load when the rolling element is entering into the load zone. In this dynamic model, the effects of the contact forces, friction forces on the rolling element-race and rolling element-cage interfaces, gravity, and the centrifugal forces of rolling elements are taken into consideration. The Hertzian contact theory is applied to calculate the non-linear contact forces. The Coulomb friction law is used to calculate the friction forces. The differential equations of rotational motion of the rolling element with regard to its central axis and the central axis of the outer ring are established respectively. The dynamic equations are then solved by using a fourth-order Runge-Kutta algorithm. The skidding characteristics of rolling element at the entry into the loaded zone are exposed, and the effects of the operating parameters on skidding behavior are carefully investigated.展开更多

The application of modified biochar for P recovery from wastewater and reuse of recovered P as agricultural fertilizer is a preferred process. This work aims to develop a calcium and magnesium loaded biochar (Ca-Mg/biochar) application for P recovery from biogas fermentation liquid. The physico-chemical characterization, adsorption efficiency, adsorption selectivity, and postsorption availability of Ca-Mg/biochar were investigated. The synthesized Ca-Mg/biochar was rich in organic functional groups and in CaO and MgO nanoparticles. With the increase in synthesis temperature, the yield decreased, C content increased, H content decreased, N content remained the same basically, and BET surface area increased. The P adsorption of Ca-Mg/biochar could be accelerated by nano-CaO and nano-MgO particles and reached equilibrium after 360min. The process was endothermic, spontaneous, and showed an increase in the disorder of the solid-liquid interface. Moreover, it could be fitted by the Freundlich model. The maximum P adsorption amounts were 294.22, 315.33, and 326.63 mg/g. The P adsorption selectivity of Ca-Mg/biochar could not be significantly influenced by the typical pH level of biogas fermentation liquid. The nano-CaO and nano-MgO particles of Ca-Mg/biochar could reduce the negative interaction effects of coexisting ions. The P releasing amounts of postsorption Ca-Mg/biochar were in the order of Ca-Mg/B600 〉 Ca-Mg/B4S0 〉 Ca-Mg/B300. Results revealed that postsorption Ca-Mg/biochar can continually release P and is more suitable for an acid environment.展开更多

The 3D optimization design method based on artificial neural network and genetic algorithm is adopted to construct the blade shape. The blade is stacked by the center of gravity in radial direction with five sections. For each blade section, independent suction and pressure sides are constructed from the camber line using Bezier curves. Three-dimensional flow analysis is carried out to verify the performance of the new blade. It is found that the new blade has improved the blade performance by 0.5%. Consequently, it is verified that the new blade is effective to improve the turbine internal efficiency and to lower the turbine weight and manufacturing cost by reducing the blade number by about 15%.展开更多

In this study, a novel magnetic composite MZLCO was prepared by hybridizing amorphous Zr-La (carbonate) oxides (ZLCO) with nano-FeOthrough a one-pot solvothermal method for efficient phosphate adsorption. Our optimum sample of MZLCO-45 exhibited a high Langmuir maximum adsorption capacity of 96.16 mg P/g and performed well even at low phosphate concentration. The phosphate adsorption kinetics by MZLCO-45 fitted well with the pseudo-second-order model, and the adsorption capacity could reach 79% of the ultimate value within the first 60 min. The phosphate adsorption process was highly p H-dependent, and MZLCO-45 performed well over a wide p H range of 2.0-8.0. Moreover, MZLCO-45 showed a strong selectivity to phosphate in the presence of competing ions (Cl^(-), NO_(3)^(-), SO_(4)^(2-), HCO_(3)^(-), Ca^(2+), and Mg^(2+)) and a good reusability using the eluent of Na OH/Na Cl mixture, then 64% adsorption capacity remained after ten recycles. The initial 2.0 mg P/L in municipal wastewater and surface water could be efficiently reduced to below 0.1mg P/L by 0.07 g/L MZLCO-45, and the phosphate removal efficiencies were 95.7% and 96.21%, respectively. Phosphate adsorption mechanisms by MZLCO-45 could be attributed to electrostatic attraction and the inner-sphere complexation via ligand exchange forming Zr/La-O-P, -OH and CO_(3)^(2-)groups on MZLCO-45 surface played important roles in the ligand exchange process. The existence of oxygen vacancies could accelerate the phosphate absorption rate of the MZLCO-45 composites.展开更多

The equilibrium data obtained in this study accorded excellently with the Langmuir adsorption isotherm.

文摘The analytical method based on "Hertz theory on normal contact of elastic solids" and the numerical method based on finite element method (FEM) calculating the contact stress of face-gear drive with spur involute pinion were introduced, and their relative errors are below 10%, except edge contact, which turns out that these two methods can compute contact stress of face-gear drive correctly and effectively. Compared to FEM, the results of these formulae are proved to be reliable, and the relative errors are below 10%.

文摘It is confirmed that tandem-blade configurations have potential to enlarge the flow turning in two-dimension(2D) studies. Besides, the maximum pressure rise of tandem rotors was beyond the loading limit of 2D single-blade cascades, which confirmed the potential of tandem blades to break the loading limit of axial compressors.

文摘A developed stereo particle image velocimetry(stereo-PIV) system was proposed to measure three-dimensional(3D) soil deformation around a laterally loaded pile in sand. The stereo-PIV technique extended 2D measurement to 3D based on a binocular vision model, where two cameras with a well geometrical setting were utilized to image the same object simultaneously. This system utilized two open software packages and some simple programs in MATLAB,which can easily be adjusted to meet user needs at a low cost. The failure planes form an angle with the horizontal line, which are measured at 27°-29°,approximately three-fourths of the frictional angle of soil. The edge of the strain wedge formed in front of the pile is an arc, which is slightly different from the straight line reported in the literature. The active and passive influence zones are about twice and six times of the diameter of the pile, respectively. The test demonstrates the good performance and feasibility of this stereo-PIV system for more advanced geotechnical testing.
文摘Bone cement has the capacity to release antibiotic molecules if any antibiotic is included in it, and these elution properties are improved as cement porosity is increased. Meanwhile, the rigorous use of peri-operative prophylactic systemic antibiotics and adoption of efficient antiseptic procedures and improved surgical techniques must be considered the gold standard in infection prevention in TKA surgery.

文摘Skidding which occurs when rolling element entering into the loaded zone is prone to cause wear and incipient failure to the raceways and rolling elements. The skidding characteristics of rolling element at the entry into the loaded zone are exposed, and the effects of the operating parameters on skidding behavior are carefully investigated.

文摘Nano-silver loaded montmorillonite (Ag-MMT) was prepared by ion-exchange and then a UV-photoreduction two-step approach was applied. The silver content in Ag-MMT determined by Volhard method was about 6.4 wt%. The morphology and structure of as-synthesized Ag-MMT were characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and X-ray diffraction (XRD). The results showed that the Ag nanoparticles were spherical and their diameters were about 15-20 nm. Moreover, the structure of MMT did not change. The minimum inhibition concentration (MIC) of Ag-MMT was 100×10-6 and the sterilizing efficiency (SE) of Ag-MMT was approximately 100% against Escherichia coli ATCC 11229 (E. coli. In addition, the slow release property of silver in Ag-MMT was also demonstrated.

文摘Shortage in phosphorus (P) resources and P wastewater pollution is considered as a serious problem worldwide. Results revealed that postsorption Ca-Mg/biochar can continually release P and is more suitable for an acid environment.
文摘In order to improve turbine internal efficiency and lower manufacturing cost, a new highly loaded rotating blade has been developed. Consequently, it is verified that the new blade is effective to improve the turbine internal efficiency and to lower the turbine weight and manufacturing cost by reducing the blade number by about 15%.

文摘Bimetallic oxides composites have received an increasing attention as promising adsorbents for aqueous phosphate (P) removal in recent years. The existence of oxygen vacancies could accelerate the phosphate absorption rate of the MZLCO-45 composites.
