XGBoost Based Multiclass NLOS Channels Identification in UWB Indoor Positioning System

Accurate non-line of sight(NLOS)identification technique in ultra-wideband(UWB)location-based services is critical for applications like drone communication and autonomous navigation.However,current methods using binary classification(LOS/NLOS)oversimplify real-world complexities,with limited generalisation and adaptability to varying indoor environments,thereby reducing the accuracy of positioning.This study proposes an extreme gradient boosting(XGBoost)model to identify multi-class NLOS conditions.We optimise the model using grid search and genetic algorithms.Initially,the grid search approach is used to identify the most favourable values for integer hyperparameters.In order to achieve an optimised model configuration,the genetic algorithm is employed to fine-tune the floating-point hyperparameters.The model evaluations utilise a wide-ranging dataset of real-world measurements obtained with a Qorvo DW1000 UWB device,covering various indoor scenarios.Experimental results show that our proposed XGBoost achieved the highest overall accuracy of 99.47%,precision of 99%,recall of 99%,and an F-score of 99%on an open-source dataset.Additionally,based on a local dataset,the model achieved the highest performance,with an accuracy of 96%,precision of 96%,recall of 97%,and an F-score of 97%.In contrast to current machine learning methods in the literature,the suggestion model enhances classification accuracy and effectively addresses the NLOS/LOS identification as a multiclass propagation channel.This approach provides a robust solution with generalisation and adaptability across various dataset types and environments for more reliable and accurate indoor positioning technologies. 展开更多

NLOS(Non-line of Sight)误差是定位中的主要误差来源,直接影响了定位的精度。在MIMO(Multiple Input Multiple Output)系统中,基于NLOS信道模型的定位方法成为解决NLOS定位误差问题的利器。基于此提出一种新颖的几何方法,仅采用两条NLOS路径就可计算MS(Mobile Station)的位置,并且只需要利用单个基站便可完成MS的定位,克服了基站数目过少无法准确定位MS的缺陷。在此基础上,还给出了最小二乘与最大似然算法利用多条NLOS路径来改善定位精度的方法,并利用它对NLOS环境下运动的MS进行定位跟踪。理论分析和仿真结果都证明该定位方法在NLOS环境中对MS定位的有效性与精确度。 展开更多

Cell-free massive multiple-input multipleoutput(MIMO)is a promising technology for future wireless communications,where a large number of distributed access points(APs)simultaneously serve all users over the same time-frequency resources.Since users and APs may locate close to each other,the line-of-sight(Lo S)transmission occurs more frequently in cell-free massive MIMO systems.Hence,in this paper,we investigate the cell-free massive MIMO system with Lo S and non-line-of-sight(NLo S)transmissions,where APs and users are both distributed according to Poisson point process.Using tools from stochastic geometry,we derive a tight lower bound for the user downlink achievable rate and we further obtain the energy efficiency(EE)by considering the power consumption on downlink payload transmissions and circuitry dissipation.Based on the analysis,the optimal AP density and AP antenna number that maximize the EE are obtained.It is found that compared with the previous work that only considers NLo S transmissions,the actual optimal AP density should be much smaller,and the maximized EE is actually much higher. 展开更多

Visibility conditions between antennas,i.e.Line-of-Sight(LOS)and Non-Line-of-Sight(NLOS)can be crucial in the context of indoor localization,for which detecting the NLOS condition and further correcting constant position estimation errors or allocating resources can reduce the negative influence of multipath propagation on wireless communication and positioning.In this paper a Deep Learning(DL)model to classify LOS/NLOS condition while analyzing two Channel Impulse Response(CIR)parameters:Total Power(TP)[dBm]and First Path Power(FP)[dBm]is proposed.The experiments were conducted using DWM1000 DecaWave radio module based on measurements collected in a real indoor environment and the proposed architecture provides LOS/NLOS identification with an accuracy of more than 100%and 95%in static and dynamic senarios,respectively.The proposed model improves the classification rate by 2-5%compared to other Machine Learning(ML)methods proposed in the literature. 展开更多

The Ultra-Wideband(UWB)Location-Based Service is receiving more and more attention due to its high ranging accuracy and good time resolution.However,the None-Line-of-Sight(NLOS)propagation may reduce the ranging accuracy for UWB localization system in indoor environment.So it is important to identify LOS and NLOS propagations before taking proper measures to improve the UWB localization accuracy.In this paper,a deep learning-based UWB NLOS/LOS classification algorithm called FCN-Attention is proposed.The proposed FCN-Attention algorithm utilizes a Fully Convolution Network(FCN)for improving feature extraction ability and a self-attention mechanism for enhancing feature description from the data to improve the classification accuracy.The proposed algorithm is evaluated using an open-source dataset,a local collected dataset and a mixed dataset created from these two datasets.The experiment result shows that the proposed FCN-Attention algorithm achieves classification accuracy of 88.24%on the open-source dataset,100%on the local collected dataset and 92.01%on the mixed dataset,which is better than the results from other evaluated NLOS/LOS classification algorithms in most scenarios in this paper. 展开更多

To provide global service with low latency, the broadband low earth orbits (LEO) satellite constellation based communication systems have become one of the focuses in academic and industry. To allow for wideband access for user links, the feeder link of LEO satellite is correspondingly required to support high throughput data communications. To this end, we propose to apply line-of-sight (LoS) multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) transmission for the feeder link to achieve spatial multiplexing by optimizing the antenna arrangement. Unlike the LoS MIMO applications for static scenarios, the movement of LEO satellites make it impractical to adjust the optimal antenna separation for all possible satellite positions. To address this issue, we propose to design the antenna placement to maximize the ergodic channel capacity during the visible region of the ground station. We first derive the closed-form probability distribution of the satellite trajectory in visible region. Based on which the ergodic channel capacity can be then calculated numerically. The antenna placement can be further optimized to maximize the ergodic channel capacity. Numerical results verify the derived probability distribution of the satellite trajectory, and show that the proposed LoS MIMO scheme can significantly increase the ergodic channel capacity compared with the existing SISO one. 展开更多

In Unmanned Aerial Vehicle(UAV)-assisted millimeter Wave(mmWave)systems,Channel State Information(CSI)feedback is critical for the selection of modulation schemes,resource management,beamforming,etc.However,traditional CSI feedback methods lead to significant feedback overhead and energy consumption of the UAV transmitter,therefore shortening the system operation time.To tackle these issues,inspired by superimposed feedback and Integrated Sensing and Communications(ISAC),a Line of Sight(LoS)sensing-based superimposed CSI feedback scheme is proposed.Specifically,on the UAV transmitter side,the Ground-to-UAV(G2U)CSI is superimposed on the UAV-to-Ground(U2G)data to feed back to the ground Base Station(gBS).At the gBS,the dedicated LoS Sensing Network(LoS-SenNet)is designed to sense the U2G CSI in LoS and NLoS scenarios.With the sensed result of LoS-SenNet,the determined G2U CSI from the initial feature extraction will work as the priori information to guide the subsequent operation.Specifically,for the G2U CSI in NLoS,a CSI Recovery Network(CSI-RecNet)and superimposed interference cancellation are developed to recover the G2U CSI and U2G data.As for the LoS scenario,a dedicated LoS Aid Network(LoS-Aid Net)is embedded before the CSI-RecNet and the block of superimposed interference cancellation to highlight the feature of the G2U CSI.Compared with other methods of superimposed CSI feedback,simulation results demonstrate that the proposed feedback scheme effectively improves the recovery accuracy of the G2U CSI and U2G data.Besides,against parameter variations,the proposed feedback scheme presents its robustness. 展开更多

Terahertz( THz) communication is considered to be one of the demanding technology for the upcoming 5G standards. The incredible demand for high rate through wireless channel necessitates the use of THz frequency for communication. The development of communication systems in this frequency band possess technical challenges as the characteristic of THz band is very different from the present wireless channel. However,the advancements in the development of transceiver and antenna systems are rapidly bringing the THz communication into reality. The high path loss in THz band limits the communication range of this channel. Even,for a distance of few meters( >5 m),the absorption coefficient is very high and hence the performance of the system is poor. Performance over this frequency channel can be enhanced by considering transmission windows over this band instead of the entire band. The transmission windows are the frequencies over which the absorption is relatively low. Though there is an improvement in the performance with this adaptive modulation scheme,but not sufficient for longer distance. Apart from path loss,the frequency selective nature of this high bandwidth channel is also a major reason for the poor performance of THz channel. Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing( OFDM) is a promising solution to mitigate the effects of frequency selective nature of the wireless channel. OFDM has been exploited in this paper to improve the performance of terahertz channel. The results show that the Bit Error Rate( BER) of the terahertz channel is considerably improved with OFDM. 展开更多

In this paper,a statistical cluster-based simulation channel model with a finite number of sinusoids is proposed for depicting the multiple-input multiple-output(MIMO)communications in vehicleto-everything(V2X)environments.In the proposed sum-of-sinusoids(SoS)channel model,the waves that emerge from the transmitter undergo line-of-sight(LoS)and non-line-of-sight(NLoS)propagation to the receiver,which makes the model suitable for describing numerous V2X wireless communication scenarios for sixth-generation(6G).We derive expressions for the real and imaginary parts of the complex channel impulse response(CIR),which characterize the physical propagation characteristics of V2X wireless channels.The statistical properties of the real and imaginary parts of the complex CIRs,i.e.,autocorrelation functions(ACFs),Doppler power spectral densities(PSDs),cross-correlation functions(CCFs),and variances of ACFs and CCFs,are derived and discussed.Simulation results are generated and match those predicted by the underlying theory,demonstrating the accuracy of our derivation and analysis.The proposed framework and underlying theory arise as an efficient tool to investigate the statistical properties of 6G MIMO V2X communication systems. 展开更多

Terahertz(THz) communication is being considered as a potential solution to mitigate the demand for high bandwidth. The characteristic of THz band is relatively different from present wireless channel and imposes technical challenges in the design and development of communication systems. Due to the high path loss in THz band,wireless THz communication can be used for relatively short distances. Even,for a distance of few meters( > 5 m),the absorption coefficient is very high and hence the performance of the system is poor. The use of multiple antennas for wireless communication systems has gained overwhelming interest during the last two decades.Multiple Input Multiple Output( MIMO) Spatial diversity technique has been exploited in this paper to improve the performance in terahertz band. The results show that the Bit Error Rate( BER) is considerably improved for short distance( < 5 m) with MIMO. However,as the distance increases,the improvement in the error performance is not significant even with increase in the order of diversity. This is because,as distance increases,in some frequency bands the signal gets absorbed by water vapor and results in poor transmission. Adaptive modulation scheme is implemented to avoid these error prone frequencies. Adaptive modulation with receiver diversity is proposed in this work and has improved the BER performance of the channel for distance greater than 5 m. 展开更多

The dominant error source of mobile terminal location in wireless sensor networks (WSNs) is the non-line-of-sight (NLOS) propagation error. Among the algorithms proposed to mitigate the influence of NLOS propagation error, residual test (RT) is an efficient one, however with high computational complexity (CC). An improved algorithm that memorizes the light of sight (LOS) range measurements (RMs) identified memorize LOS range measurements identified residual test (MLSI-RT) is presented in this paper to address this problem. The MLSI-RT is based on the assumption that when all RMs are from LOS propagations, the normalized residual follows the central Chi-Square distribution while for NLOS cases it is non-central. This study can reduce the CC by more than 90%. 展开更多
