Then according to this methodology,two hybrid methods,interpolation-optimization (IO) method and interpolation penalty-function (IPF) method,are designed as examples.Finally,both methods are applied to modeling two cases in chemical engineering to investigate their effectiveness.Simulation results show that the performances of the hybrid methods are better than those of their parents. 展开更多

This study presents an effective hybrid simulation approach for simulating broadband ground motion in complex near-fault locations.The approach utilizes a deterministic approach based on the spectral element method(SEM),which is used to simulate low-frequency ground motion(f<1 Hz)by incorporating an innovative efficient discontinuous Galerkin(DG)method for grid division to accurately model basin sedimentary layers at reduced costs.It also introduces a comprehensive hybrid source model for high-frequency random scattering and a nonlinear analysis module for basin sedimentary layers.Deterministic outcomes are combined with modified three-dimensional stochastic finite fault method(3D-EXSIM)simulations of high-frequency ground motion(f>1 Hz).A fourth-order Butterworth filter with zero phase shift is employed for time-domain filtering of low-and high-frequency time series at a crossover frequency of 1 Hz,merging the low and high-frequency ground motions into a broadband time series.Taking an Ms 6.8 Luding earthquake,as an example,this hybrid method was used for a rapid and efficient simulation analysis of broadband ground motion in the region.The accuracy and efficiency of this hybrid method were verified through comparisons with actually observed station data and empirical attenuation curves.Deterministic method simulation results revealed the effects of mountainous topography,basin effects,nonlinear effects within the basin’s sedimentary layers,and a coupling interaction between the basin and the mountains.The findings are consistent with similar studies,showing that near-fault sedimentary basins significantly focus and amplify strong ground motion,and the soil’s nonlinear behavior in the basin influences ground motion to varying extents at different distances from the fault.The mountainous topography impacts the basin’s response to ground motion,leading to barrier effects.This research provides a scientific foundation for seismic zoning,urban planning,and seismic design in nearfault mountain basin regions. 展开更多

In this paper, a truncated hybrid method is proposed and developed for solving sparse large-scale nonlinear programming problems. In the hybrid method, a symmetric system of linear equations, instead of the usual quadratic programming subproblems, is solved at iterative process. In order to ensure the global convergence, a method of multiplier is inserted in iterative process. A truncated solution is determined for the system of linear equations and the unconstrained subproblems are solved by the limited memory BFGS algorithm such that the hybrid algorithm is suitable to the large-scale problems. The local convergence of the hybrid algorithm is proved and some numerical tests for medium-sized truss problem are given. 展开更多

The inverse and direct piezoelectric and circuit coupling are widely observed in advanced electro-mechanical systems such as piezoelectric energy harvesters.Existing strongly coupled analysis methods based on direct numerical modeling for this phenomenon can be classified into partitioned or monolithic formulations.Each formulation has its advantages and disadvantages,and the choice depends on the characteristics of each coupled problem.This study proposes a new option:a coupled analysis strategy that combines the best features of the existing formulations,namely,the hybrid partitioned-monolithic method.The analysis of inverse piezoelectricity and the monolithic analysis of direct piezoelectric and circuit interaction are strongly coupled using a partitioned iterative hierarchical algorithm.In a typical benchmark problem of a piezoelectric energy harvester,this research compares the results from the proposed method to those from the conventional strongly coupled partitioned iterative method,discussing the accuracy,stability,and computational cost.The proposed hybrid concept is effective for coupled multi-physics problems,including various coupling conditions. 展开更多

We devise hybrid high-order(HHO)methods for the acoustic wave equation in the time domain.We frst consider the second-order formulation in time.Using the Newmark scheme for the temporal discretization,we show that the resulting HHO-Newmark scheme is energy-conservative,and this scheme is also amenable to static condensation at each time step.We then consider the formulation of the acoustic wave equation as a frst-order system together with singly-diagonally implicit and explicit Runge-Kutta(SDIRK and ERK)schemes.HHO-SDIRK schemes are amenable to static condensation at each time step.For HHO-ERK schemes,the use of the mixed-order formulation,where the polynomial degree of the cell unknowns is one order higher than that of the face unknowns,is key to beneft from the explicit structure of the scheme.Numerical results on test cases with analytical solutions show that the methods can deliver optimal convergence rates for smooth solutions of order O(hk+1)in the H1-norm and of order O(h^(k+2))in the L^(2)-norm.Moreover,test cases on wave propagation in heterogeneous media indicate the benefts of using high-order methods. 展开更多

This study explores the influence of after-school tutoring on reading comprehension skills of students with dyslexia(DD)in grades 3-5 in China and its participating factors.Using a mixed-methods design,the quantitative data(GORT-4 reading test)of 50 public primary school students in Qingdao and their parents’feedback were collected through questionnaires,supplemented by semi-structured interviews with eight parents for qualitative analysis.The findings are as follows:(1)Family socioeconomic status and parents’awareness of DD are the key factors to participate in after-school counseling;(2)The students who participated in the after-school counseling performed significantly better in the GORT-4 comprehension test(P<0.05);(3)Counseling makes up for the lack of classroom learning through personalized strategies(such as multi-sensory teaching and phonological awareness training),but parents’psychological support is the core of successful intervention.The necessity of early targeted intervention was emphasized,and practical enlightenment was provided for the educational support system of DD students in China. 展开更多

Transient simulation are more economical and adaptable means of studying lightning overvoltage for overhead distribution line system compared to experiments.A hybrid multi-transmission-line(MTL)-partial element equivalent circuit(PEEC)method proposed for lightning-induced electromagnetic pulse(LEMP)simulation is verified using the rocket-triggered experimental results under a more complex line configuration for the first time.This method can improve computational efficiency while ensuring calculation accuracy.The agreement between experimental and simulation results further validates the adaptability and accuracy of the proposed method,which is adopted to calculate the LEMP on the extended double-circuit parallel unequal length line.The effects of various factors,such as the strike-point location,the amplitude and waveform of the lightning current,the line shape and length on the amplitude of overvoltage and pole flashover along the line are discussed.For double-circuit distribution lines,when lightning strikes the ground in front of centre of circuit I,the three-phase voltage waveforms are similar,all of which are negative or bipolar oscillation waves.The closer the lightning strike point is to the line,the greater the amplitude of the lightning current,and the voltage waveform develops towards a bipolar waveform,but the main peak remains negative.As the amplitude of lightning current increases,the maximum lightning-induced voltage amplitude along the line increases.The LEMP caused by the subsequent return-stroke current is always greater than that caused by the first returnstroke current.When the grounding resistance increases,the maximum voltage peak amplitude along the line remains unchanged. 展开更多

Local and global optimization methods are widely used in geophysical inversion but each has its own advantages and disadvantages. The combination of the two methods will make it possible to overcome their weaknesses. Based on the simulated annealing genetic algorithm (SAGA) and the simplex algorithm, an efficient and robust 2-D nonlinear method for seismic travel-time inversion is presented in this paper. First we do a global search over a large range by SAGA and then do a rapid local search using the simplex method. A multi-scale tomography method is adopted in order to reduce non-uniqueness. The velocity field is divided into different spatial scales and velocities at the grid nodes are taken as unknown parameters. The model is parameterized by a bi-cubic spline function. The finite-difference method is used to solve the forward problem while the hybrid method combining multi-scale SAGA and simplex algorithms is applied to the inverse problem. The algorithm has been applied to a numerical test and a travel-time perturbation test using an anomalous low-velocity body. For a practical example, it is used in the study of upper crustal velocity structure of the A'nyemaqen suture zone at the north-east edge of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau. The model test and practical application both prove that the method is effective and robust. 展开更多

This paper presents hybrid Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes(RANS)and large-eddy-simulation(LES)methods for the separated flows at high angles of attack around a 6:1 prolate spheroid.The RANS/LES hybrid meth-ods studied in this work include the detached eddy simulation(DES)based on Spalart-Allmaras(S-A),Menter's k-ωshear-stress-transport(SST)and k-o9 with weakly nonlinear eddy viscosity formulation(Wilcox-Durbin+,WD+)models and the zonalANS/LES methods based on the SST and WD+models.The switch from RANS near the wall to LES in the core flow region is smooth through the implementation of a flow-dependent blending function for the zonal hybrid method.All the hybrid methods are designed to have a RANS mode for the attached flows and have a LES behavior for the separated flows.The main objective of this paper is to apply the hybrid methods for the high Reynolds number separated flows around prolate spheroid at high-incidences.A fourth-order central scheme with fourth-order artificial viscosity is applied for spatial differencing.The fully implicit lower-upper symmetric-Gauss-Seidel with pseudo time sub-iteration is taken as the temporal differentiation.Comparisons with available measurements are carried out for pressure distribution,skin friction,and profiles of velocity,etc.Reasonable agreement with the experiments,accounting for the effect on grids and fundamental turbulence models,is obtained for the separation flows. 展开更多

Eradicating H pylori may convert rapidly the outcome of related diseases with the use of more accurate diagnostic molecular tests. Indeed some of the tests cannot give the evidence of current infection; H pylori can be detected by noninvasive and invasive methods, the latter requiring an endoscopy. Eradication failure is a big problem in H pylori infection. Recently, clarithromycin resistance in H pylori strains is increasing and eradicati-on therapy of this bacterium is becoming more difficult. Molecular methods have frequently been applied besides phenotypic methods for susceptibility testing to detect clarithromycin resistance due to mutations in the 2143 and 2144 positions of 23S rRNA gene. Fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) method on paraffin embedded tissue is a rapid, accurate and cost-effective method for the detection of H pylori infection and to determine clarithromycin resistance within three hours according to the gold standards as a non-culture method. This method can also be applied to fresh biopsy samples and the isolated colonies from a culture of H pylori, detecting both the culturable bacillary forms and the coccoid forms of H pylori, besides the paraffin embedded tissue secti-ons. This technique is helpful for determining the bac-terial density and the results of treatment where clarith-romycin has been widely used in populations to increase the efficacy of the treatment and to clarify the treatment failure in vitro. 展开更多

A hybrid Euler/full potential/Lagrangian wake method,based on single-blade simulation,for predicting unsteady aerodynamic flow around helicopter rotors in hover and forward flight has been developed.In this method,an Euler solver is used to model the near wake evolution and transonic flow phenomena in the vicinity of the blade,and a full potential equation(FPE) is used to model the isentropic potential flow region far away from the rotor,while the wake effects of other blades and the far wake are incorporated into the flow solution as an induced inflow distribution using a Lagrangian based wake analysis.To further reduce the execution time,the computational fluid dynamics(CFD) solution and rotor wake analysis(including induced velocity up-date) are conducted parallelly,and a load balancing strategy is employed to account for the information exchange between two solvers.By the developed method,several hover and forward-flight cases on Caradonna-Tung and Helishape 7A rotors are per-formed.Good agreements of the loadings on blade surface with available measured data demonstrate the validation of the method.Also,the CPU time required for different computation runs is compared in the paper,and the results show that the pre-sent hybrid method is superior to conventional CFD method in time cost,and will be more efficient with the number of blades increasing. 展开更多

A current based hybrid method (HM) is proposed which combines the method of moment (MOM) with the Kirchhoff approximation (KA) for the analysis of scattering interaction between a two-dimensional (2D) infinitely long conducting target with arbitrary cross section and a one-dimensional (1D) Gaussian rough surface. The electromagnetic scattering region in the HM is split into KA region and MOM region. The electric field integral equation (EFIE) in MOM region (target) is derived, the computational time of the HM depends mainly on the number of unknowns of the target. The bistatic scattering coefficient for the infinitely long cylinder above the rough surface with Gaussian roughness spectrum is calculated, and the numerical results are compared and verified with those obtained by the conventional MOM, which shows the high efficiency of the HM. Finally, the influence of the size, location of the target, the rms height and correlation length of the rough surface on the bistatic scattering coefficient with different polarizations is discussed in detail. 展开更多

A hybrid conceptual design approach was introduced in this study to develop a conceptual design of oil palm polymer composite automotive crash box(ACB). A combination of theory of inventive problem solving(TRIZ), morphological charts and biomimetics was applied where the foremost requirements in terms of the material characteristics, function specifications, force identification, root cause analysis, geometry profile and design selection criteria were considered. The strategy was to use creations of nature to inspire five innovative conceptual designs of the ACB structure and the AHP method was applied to perform the pairwise analysis of selecting the best ACB conceptual design. A new conceptual design for a composite ACB was conceived bearing in mind the properties of natural fibre, unlike those of conventional materials such as steel alloys and aluminium alloys. The design with the highest ranking(26.6 %) was chosen as the final conceptual design, which was the one with a honeycomb structure for the outermost profile, reinforced with a spider web structure inside the part, supported by fibre foam structure extracted from the woodpecker sponge tissue at the centre to maximize the energy absorption capability. The new design could solve the problem of bending collapse which is a major cause of failure to absorb maximum impact energy for ACB during collision. However, the final conceptual design will still need several modifications for production and assembly purposes, which will be completed in a further study. 展开更多

A two-stage hybrid method is proposed to predict the phosphorus content of molten steel at the endpoint of steelmaking in BOF(Basic Oxygen Furnace). At the first clustering stage, the weighted K-means is performed to produce clusters with homogeneous data. At the second predicting stage, each fuzzy neural network is carried out on each cluster and the results from all fuzzy neural networks are combined to be the final result of the hybrid method. The hybrid method and single fuzzy neural network are compared and the results show that the hybrid method outperforms single fuzzy neural network. 展开更多
