Magnetic reconnection is well known as an efficient mechanism for transferring magnetic energy into plasma energy.However,how the energy conversion and partition between different species is influenced by the shear an...Magnetic reconnection is well known as an efficient mechanism for transferring magnetic energy into plasma energy.However,how the energy conversion and partition between different species is influenced by the shear angle of the reconnecting magnetic component(i.e.,the guide field strength)is not well understood.Using 2.5-dimensional particle-in-cell simulations,we investigated the energy conversion in reconnection with different guide fields.We found that the overall energy conversion first decreases steeply and then increases slowly when the guide field increases fromB_(g)=0 toB_(g)=4.The increase in energy conversion in the large guide field regime is due to the electron energy gain through the perpendicular channelJ_(⊥)·E_(⊥).The overall energy conversion is predominantly contributed byJ_(⊥)·E_(⊥) rather thanJ||E||.We further find that energy conversion mainly occurs within the reconnection front and the flux pileup region.However,the contribution from the fore reconnection front becomes important in large guide field regimes(3<B_(g)≤4)because of the enhanced electron energy gain.展开更多

Wind is the primary challenge for low-speed fixed-wing unmanned aerial vehicles to follow a predefined flight path.To cope with various wind conditions,this paper proposes a wind disturbance compensated path following...Wind is the primary challenge for low-speed fixed-wing unmanned aerial vehicles to follow a predefined flight path.To cope with various wind conditions,this paper proposes a wind disturbance compensated path following control strategy where the wind disturbance estimate is incorporated with the nominal guiding vector field to provide the desired airspeed direction for the inner-loop.Since the control input vector for the outer-loop kinematic subsystem needs to satisfy a magnitude constraint,a scaling mechanism is introduced to tune the proportions of the compensation and nominal components.Moreover,an optimization problem is formulated to pursue a maximum wind compensation in strong winds,which can be solved analytically to yield two scaling factors.A cascaded inner-loop tracking controller is also designed to fulfill the outer-loop wind disturbance compensated guiding vector field.High-fidelity simulation results under sensor noises and realistic winds demonstrate that the proposed path following algorithm is less sensitive to sensor noises,achieves promising accuracy in normal winds,and mitigates the deviation from a desired path in wild winds.展开更多
Compactness and miniaturization have become increasingly important in the development of high-power microwave devices.Based on this rising demand,a novel C-band coaxial transit-time oscillator(TTO)with a low external ...Compactness and miniaturization have become increasingly important in the development of high-power microwave devices.Based on this rising demand,a novel C-band coaxial transit-time oscillator(TTO)with a low external guiding magnetic field is proposed and analyzed.The proposed device has the following advantages:simple structure,short axial length,high power conversion efficiency,and low external guiding magnetic field,which are of great significance for developing the compact and miniaturized high-power microwave devices.The application of a shorter axial length is made possible by the use of a transit radiation mechanism.Also,loading the opening foil symmetrically to both ends of the buncher helps reduce the external magnetic field of the proposed device.Unlike traditional foils,the proposed opening foil has a circular-hole;therefore,the electron beam will not bombard the conductive foil to generate plasma.This makes it possible to realize long pulse and high repetition rate operation of the device in future experiments.Through numerical calculation and PIC particle simulation,the stability of the intense relativistic electron beam(IREB)and the saturation time of the device are improved by using the conductive foil.The voltage and current of the diode are 548 kV and 11.4 kA,respectively.Under a 0.4-T external guiding magnetic field,a C-band output microwave with a frequency of 4.27 GHz and power of 1.88 GW can be generated.The power conversion efficiency of the proposed device is about 30%.展开更多
