However, few of the present studies on tooth modification considers the influence of inevitable random errors on gear modification effects. In order to investigate the uncertainties of tooth modification amount variations on system's dynamic behaviors of a helical planetary gears, an analytical dynamic model including tooth modification parameters is proposed to carry out a deterministic analysis on the dynamics of a helical planetary gear. The dynamic meshing forces as well as the dynamic transmission errors of the sun-planet 1 gear pair with and without tooth modifications are computed and compared to show the effectiveness of tooth modifications on gear dynamics enhancement. By using response surface method, a fitted regression model for the dynamic transmission error(DTE) fluctuations is established to quantify the relationship between modification amounts and DTE fluctuations. By shifting the inevitable random errors arousing from manufacturing and installing process to tooth modification amount variations, a statistical tooth modification model is developed and a methodology combining Monte Carlo simulation and response surface method is presented for uncertainty analysis of tooth modifications. The uncertainly analysis reveals that the system's dynamic behaviors do not obey the normal distribution rule even though the design variables are normally distributed. In addition, a deterministic modification amount will not definitely achieve an optimal result for both static and dynamic transmission error fluctuation reduction simultaneously.展开更多

The gen...The calculation method of sliding ratios for conjugate-curve gear pair, generated based on the theory of conjugate curves,is proposed. The theoretical model of conjugate-curve gear drive is briefly introduced. The general calculation formulas of sliding ratios are developed according to the conjugate curves. The applications to the circular arc gears based on conjugate curves and the novel involute-helix gears are studied. A comparison on the sliding coefficient with the conventional corresponding gear drive is also carried out. The influences of gear parameters such as spiral parameter, gear ratio and modulus on the sliding ratios of gear drive are discussed. Brief description of manufacturing method for conjugate-curve gear pair is given. The research results show that the sliding ratios of gear pair become smaller with the increase of spiral parameter and gear ratio, respectively. And it will be greater with the increase of modulus for the tooth profiles. The meshing characteristics of conjugate-curve gears are further reflected and the optimization design of tooth profiles with high performance may be obtained.展开更多

By using EMD, any complicated signal can be decomposed into a finite and often small numberof intrinsic mode functions (IMFs) , which are based upon the local characteristic time scale of thesignal. Thus, EMD is perfectly suitable for non-stationary signal processing and faultcharacteristics extracting. It is well known that a gear vibration signal consists of a number offrequency family components, each of which is a modulated signal. Thus, we can use EMD to decomposea gear fault vibration signal into a number of IMF components, some of which correspond to thefrequency families, and the others are noises. Therefore, the frequency families can be separatedand the noise can be decreased at the same time. The proposed method has been applied to gear faultdiagnosis. The processing map of AZ31B alloys was ...Workability domain without the onset of flow instability was developed by numerical simulation and response surface method (RSM) for complex-shaped straight spur gear forging. The processing map of AZ31B alloys was calculated from flow stress curves and then integrated with the finite element model to simulate the distribution of flow instability in the straight spur gear undergoing isothermal forging process. Occurrence of flow instability depends on forging temperature, punch velocity and billet reduction. Taking forging temperature and punch velocity as design variables, while billet reduction as response variable, RSM of workability domain was established. Analysis of variance indicates that forging temperature is the most significant factor determining the appearance of flow instability in the forged gear. Flow instability is easier to take place at lower temperatures of 250 and 300 ℃ in the early stage of forging but at higher temperatures of 350 and 400 ℃ in the later stage of forging, which is attributed to different deformation mechanisms and dynamic recrystallization behaviors at different temperatures or deformation levels. Meanwhile, increasing punch velocity further reduces the workability of the forged gear. Four different processing paths were chosen to carry out the gear forging trials. Visual observations and metallographic examinations demonstrate that the developed workability domain contributes to optimization of forging parameters.展开更多

Currently, theoretical calculation and experimental method are difficult to exactly solve special transmission contact analysis problem. How to reduce calculation and computer memories consume and meet calculation precision is key to resolve special transmission contact analysis problem. According to 3D model simulation and surface reconstruction of quasi ellipsoid gear is difficulty, this paper employes meshless local Petrov-Galerkin (MLPG) method. In order to reduce calculation and computer memories consume, we disperse tooth mesh into finite points--sparseness points cloud or grid mesh, and then we do interpolation reconstruction in some necessary place of the 3D surface model during analysis. Moving least square method (MLSM) is employed for tooth mesh interpolation reconstruction, there are some advantages to do interpolation by means of MLSM, such as high precision, good flexibility and no require of tooth mesh discretization into units. We input the quasi ellipsoid gear reconstruction model into simulation software, we complete tooth meshing simulation. Simulation transmission ratio during meshing period was obtained, compared with theoretical transmission ratio, the result inosculate preferably. The method using curve reconstruction realizes surface reconstruction, reduce simulation calculation enormously, so special gears simulation can be realized by minitype computer. Three types of relations between components of a certain control parameter combination are defined in a certain control process. Special emphasis is put on the comparison of control efficiencies of the multi-parameter multi-step method and single-parameter multi-step method. The numerical experiments show the ability to switch between different orbits and the method can be a good chaos control alternative since it provides a more effective UPOs stabilization of high-dimensional and non-hyperbolic chaotic systems than the single-parameter chaos control, and according to the relation between components of each parameter combination, the best combination for chaos control in a certain UPO stabilization process are obtained.展开更多

The longitudinal force that the draft gear absorbs usually leads to the failure of its components, especially, the load bearing draft pads. Dynamic behaviour of an individual draft pad and a draft gear is determined and characterized with exciting frequen- cies and corresponding mode shapes. The effect of compressive prestress load on the dynamic behaviour of an individual draft pad is also determined as the draft pads in assembled state are under constant axial compressive force in the draft gear. The vibration characteristics of individual draft pad are compared with draft pads that are part of draft gear. The modal analysis gives us a basis for subjecting a draft pad to higher frequency loading for determining its fatigue behaviour.展开更多

For this purpose, an analytical translational- torsional coupled...This paper aims to investigate the nonlinear dynamic behaviors of an NGW planetary gear train with multi-clearances and manufacturing/assembling errors. For this purpose, an analytical translational- torsional coupled dynamic model is developed considering the effects of time-varying stiffness, gear backlashes and component errors. Based on the proposed model, the nonlinear differential equations of motion are derived and solved iteratively by the Runge-Kutta method. An NGW planetary gear reducer with three planets is taken as an example to analyze the effects of nonlinear factors. The results indicate that the backlashes induce complicated nonlinear dynamic behaviors in the gear train. With the increment of the backlashes, the gear system has experienced periodic responses, quasi-periodic response and chaos responses in sequence. When the planetary gear system is in a chaotic motion state, the vibration amplitude increases sharply, causing severe vibration and noise. The present study provides a fundamental basis for design and parameter optimization of NGW planetary gear trains.展开更多
