A one-dimensional(1D) fluid model of capacitive RF argon glow discharges between two parallel-plate electrodes at low pressure is employed. The influence of the secondary electron emission on the plasma characteristics in the discharges is investigated numerically by the model. The results show that as the secondary electron emission coefficient increases, the cycle-averaged electric field has almost no change; the cycle-averaged electron temperature in the bulk plasma almost does not change, but it increases in the two sheath regions; the cycle-averaged ionization rate, electron density, electron current density, ion current density, and total current density all increase. Also, the cycle-averaged secondary electron fluxes on the surfaces of the electrodes increase as the secondary electron emission coefficient increases. The evolutions of the electron flux, the secondary electron flux and the ion flux on the powered electrode increase as the secondary electron emission coefficient increases. The cycle-averaged electron pressure heating, electron Ohmic heating, electron heating, and ion heating in the two sheath regions increase as the secondary electron emission coefficient increases. The cycle-averaged electron energy loss increases with increasing secondary electron emission coefficient. 展开更多

Metal organic chenlical vapor deposition (AIOCVD) growth systems arc one of the. main types of equipment used for growing single crystal materials, such as GaN. To obtain fihn epitaxial materials with uniform performanee, the flow field and ternperature field in a GaN-MOCVD reactor are investigated by modeling and simulating. Fluid flow in fractured media has been studied for decades and received considerable attention in the oil and gas industry because of the high productivity of naturally fractured reservoirs.Due to formation complexity and reservoir heterogeneity, characterizing fluid flow with an appropriate reservoir model presents a challenging task that differs relatively from homogeneous conventional reservoirs in many aspects of view, including geological, petrophysical, production, and economics. In most fractured reservoirs, fracture networks create complex pathways that affect hydrocarbon flow, well performance, hence reservoir characterization.A better and comprehensive understanding of the available reservoir modeling approaches is much needed to accurately characterize fluid flow behavior in NFRs.Therefore,in this paper,a perspective review of the available modeling approaches was presented for fluid flow characterization in naturally fractured medium.Modeling methods were evaluated in terms of their description, application, advantages, and disadvantages. This study has also included the applications of these reservoir models in fluid flow characterizing studies and governing equations for fluid flow.Dual continuum models were proved to be better than single continuum models in the presence of large scale fractures. In comparison, discrete models were more appropriate for reservoirs that contain a smaller number of fractures. However, hybrid modeling was the best method to provide accurate and scalable fluid flow modeling. It is our understanding that this paper will bridge the gap between the fundamental understanding and application of NFRs modeling approaches and serve as a useful reference for engineers and researchers for present and future applications. 展开更多

A new generic reaction in the form of PC_i→PC_m+[i,m]→PC_m+λi,m coke+surplusage has been proposed for describing the catalytic cracking behavior of petroleum narrow cuts or pseudo-components(PCs),where the rate constant formula is derived from the transition state theory and the coking amount is correlated to the properties of the intermediate substance [i,m].In composing the cracking reaction network for feedstock and product oils, only the product PC m of the proposed generic reaction is used, which together with a criterion for excluding exothermic reactions, distinctly reduces the number of reactions in the network. With the proposed cracking reaction scheme coupled with special pseudo-components,a predictive one-dimensional steady state model for fluid catalytic cracking risers is formulated in the sense that for a given riser and given catalyst, the model parameters are independent of stock oils, product schemes and other operational conditions. The great correlating and predicting capability of the resulted model is tested with production data in different scenarios of four commercial risers. 展开更多

The kinetic characteristics of plasma-assisted oxidative pyrolysis of ammonia are studied by using the global/fluid models hybrid solution method.Firstly, the stable products of plasma-assisted oxidative pyrolysis of ammonia are measured. The results show that the consumption of NH_(3)/O_(2)and the production of N_(2)/H_(2)change linearly with the increase of voltage, which indicates the decoupling of nonequilibrium molecular excitation and oxidative pyrolysis of ammonia at low temperatures.Secondly, the detailed reaction kinetics mechanism of ammonia oxidative pyrolysis stimulated by a nanosecond pulse voltage at low pressure and room temperature is established.Based on the reaction path analysis, the simplified mechanism is obtained. The detailed and simplified mechanism simulation results are compared with experimental data to verify the accuracy of the simplified mechanism. Finally, based on the simplified mechanism, the fluid model of ammonia oxidative pyrolysis stimulated by the nanosecond pulse plasma is established to study the pre-sheath/sheath behavior and the resultant consumption and formation of key species. The results show that the generation, development, and propagation of the pre-sheath have a great influence on the formation and consumption of species. The consumption of NH_(3)by the cathode pre-sheath is greater than that by the anode pre-sheath,but the opposite is true for OH and O(1S).However,within the sheath, almost all reactions do not occur.Further,by changing the parameters of nanosecond pulse power supply voltage,it is found that the electron number density, electron current density, and applied peak voltages are not the direct reasons for the structural changes of the sheath and pre-sheath.Furthermore,the discharge interval has little effect on the sheath structure and gas mixture breakdown. The research results of this paper not only help to understand the kinetic promotion of non-equilibrium excitation in the process of oxidative pyrolysis but also help to explore the influence of transport and chemical reaction kinetics on the oxidative pyrolysis of ammonia. 展开更多

Roll coating is a vital industrial process used in printing, packaging, and polymer film production, where maintaining a uniform coating is critical for product quality and efficiency. This work models non-isothermal Carreau fluid flow between a rotating roll and a stationary wall under fixed boundary constraints to evaluate how non-Newtonian and thermal effects influence coating performance. The governing equations are transformed into non-dimensional form and simplified using lubrication approximation theory.Approximate analytical solutions are obtained via the perturbation technique, while numerical results are computed using both the finite difference method and the BVPMidrich technique.Furthermore,Response surface methodology(RSM)is employed for optimization and sensitivity analysis.Analytical and numerical results show strong agreement(<1%deviation).The model predicts coating thickness 0.55≤λ≤0.64,power input 1.05≤P_(w)≤1.99,and separation force 0.91≤S_(f)≤1.82 for 0.1≤We≤0.9 and 0.01≤F≤0.09.Increasing We enhances the coating thickness and power input but reduces velocity and separation force. The findings provide physical insight into elastic and viscous effects in roll coating, providing insight for optimizing coating uniformity, minimizing wear, improving industrial coating processes, and extending substrate lifespan. 展开更多

To fundamentally alleviate the excavation chamber clogging during slurry tunnel boring machine(TBM)advancing in hard rock,large-diameter short screw conveyor was adopted to slurry TBM of Qingdao Jiaozhou Bay Second Undersea Tunnel. To evaluate the discharging performance of short screw conveyor in different cases, the full-scale transient slurry-rock two-phase model for a short screw conveyor actively discharging rocks was established using computational fluid dynamics-discrete element method(CFD-DEM)coupling approach. In the fluid domain of coupling model, the sliding mesh technology was utilized to describe the rotations of the atmospheric composite cutterhead and the short screw conveyor. In the particle domain of coupling model, the dynamic particle factories were established to produce rock particles with the rotation of the cutterhead. And the accuracy and reliability of the CFD-DEM simulation results were validated via the field test and model test.Furthermore,a comprehensive parameter analysis was conducted to examine the effects of TBM operating parameters, the geometric design of screw conveyor and the size of rocks on the discharging performance of short screw conveyor.Accordingly,a reasonable rotational speed of screw conveyor was suggested and applied to Jiaozhou Bay Second Undersea Tunnel project. The findings in this paper could provide valuable references for addressing the excavation chamber clogging during ultra-large-diameter slurry TBM tunneling in hard rock for similar future. 展开更多

An oil-based drilling fluid should be stable and tolerant to high temperatures for use in deep drilling. An invert emulsion of water in oil is a good choice as an oil- based drilling fluid which is a mixture of a solid phase and two immiscible liquid phases stabilized by a polymeric surfactant. In deep drilling, due to high temperatures, the polymeric surfactant degrades and a phase separation occurs. Here, octadecyltrimethoxysilane-modified silica nanoparticles were used to form a stable invert emulsion of water in oil for the drilling fluid model which resulted in a milky fluid with the formation of 60 gm water droplets. In addition, rheological study showed that using hydrophobic silica nanoparticles resulted in a stable water in oil invert emulsion with desired properties for a drilling fluid that can be modified by adjusting the nanoparticle nature and content. Aging experiments at 120 ℃ indicated that they also have good stability at high temperatures for challenging drilling operations. 展开更多

Technologically, multi-layer fluid models are important in understanding fluid-fluid or fluid-nanoparticle interactions and their effects on flow and heat transfer characteristics. However, to the best of the authors' knowledge, little attention has been paid to the study of three-layer fluid models with nanofluids. Therefore, a three-layer fluid flow model with nanofluids is formulated in this paper. The governing coupled nonlinear differential equations of the problem are non-dimensionalized by using appropriate fundamental quantities. The resulting multi-point boundary value problem is solved numerically by quasi-linearization and Richardson's extrapolation with modified boundary conditions. The effects of the model parameters on the flow and heat transfer are obtained and analyzed. The results show that an increase in the nanoparticle concentration in the base fluid can modify the fluid-velocity at the interface of the two fluids and reduce the shear not only at the surface of the clear fluid but also at the interface between them. That is, nanofluids play a vital role in modifying the flow phenomena. Therefore, one can use nanofluids to obtain the desired qualities for the multi-fluid flow and heat transfer characteristics. 展开更多

The geometry of an inductively coupled plasma (ICP) etcher is usually considered to be an important factor for determining both plasma and process uniformity over a large wafer. During the past few decades, these parameters were determined by the "trial and error" method, resulting in wastes of time and funds. In this paper, a new approach of regression orthogonal design with plasma simulation experiments is proposed to investigate the sensitivity of the structural parameters on the uniformity of plasma characteristics. The tool for simulating plasma is CFD-ACE+, which is commercial multi-physical modeling software that has been proven to be accurate for plasma simulation. The simulated experimental results are analyzed to get a regression equation on three structural parameters. Through this equation, engineers can compute the uniformity of the electron number density rapidly without modeling by CFD-ACE+. An optimization performed at the end produces good results. 展开更多

The discharge characteristics at an input microwave power of 1200 W and a filling gas pressure of 50 Pa in the SWP source are analyzed. The simulation shows the time evolution of deposited power density at different stages, and the 3D distributions of electron density and temperature in the chamber at steady state. The electron energy distribution function (EEDF), predicted by the Boltzmann equation solver BOLSIG+ based on the two-term approximation, is introduced into the fluid model for simulating the high-power microwave (HPM) breakdown in argon, nitrogen, and air, and its validity is examined by comparing with the results of particle-in-cell Monte Carlo collision (PIC/MCC) simulations as well as the experimental data. Numerical results show that, the breakdown time of the fluid model with the Maxwellian EEDF matches that of the PIC/MCC simulations in nitrogen; however, in argon under high pressures, the results from the Maxwellian EEDF were poor. This is due to an overestimation of the energy tail of the Maxwellian EEDF in argon breakdown. The prediction of the fluid model with the BOLSIG+ EEDF, however, agrees very well with the PIC/MCC prediction in nitrogen and argon over a wide range of pressures. The accuracy of the fluid model with the BOLSIG+ EEDF is also verified by the experimental results of the air breakdown. 展开更多

A two-dimensional coupled model of neutral gas flow and plasma dynamics is employed to investigate the streamer dynamics in a helium plasma needle at atmospheric pressure. A parametric study of the streamer propagation as a function of needle tip curvature radius and helium gas flow rate is presented. The key chemical reactions at the He/air mixing layer which drive the streamer propagation are the direct ionization via collision with electrons, the Penning effect being not so crucial. With increasing the gas flow rate from 0.2 standard liter per minute(SLM) to 0.8 SLM, however, the emissions resulting from reactive oxygen and nitrogen species change from a solid circle to a hollow profile and the average streamer propagation velocity decreases. Air impurities(backdiffusion from ambient air) in the helium jet result in a significant increase in the streamer propagation velocity. Besides, with decreasing the tip curvature radiusfrom 200 μm to 100 μm,the electron avalanche process around the near-tip region is more pronounced. However, the spatially resolved plasma parameters distributions(electron, helium metastables, ground state atomic oxygen, etc.) remain almost the same, except that around the near-tip region where their peak values are more than doubled. 展开更多

Fluid-structure interaction(FSI)of gas-liquid two-phase fow in the horizontal pipe is investigated numerically in the present study. The volume of fluid model and standard k-e turbulence model are integrated to simulate the typical gas-liquid two-phase fow patterns.First, validation of the numerical model is conducted and the typical fow patterns are consistent with the Baker chart. Then, the FSI framework is established to investigate the dynamic responses of the interaction between the horizontal pipe and gas-liquid two-phase fow.The results show that the dynamic response under stratified fow condition is relatively flat and the maximum pipe deformation and equivalent stress are 1.8 mm and 7.5 MPa respectively.Meanwhile, the dynamic responses induced by slug fow, wave fow and annular fow show obvious periodic fuctuations.Furthermore, the dynamic response characteristics under slug flow condition are maximum;the maximum pipe deformation and equivalent stress can reach 4mm and 17.5 MPa,respectively. The principal direction of total deformation is different under various flow patterns. Therefore, the periodic equivalent stress will form the cyclic impact on the pipe wall and affect the fatigue life of the horizontal pipe. The present study may serve as a reference for FSI simulation under gas-liquid two-phase transport conditions. 展开更多
