Objective:This article employs a scoping review methodology, integrates knowledge and information about current pediatric nurses'practices and perceptions regarding family-centered care in pediatric settings. Methods:Published articles were retrieved from databases including EBSCO host,PubMed,Springer,Science Direct,Ovid, and CINAHL between 2013 and 2023.Results:The finding shows a better understanding of pediatric nurses'perceptions of family-centered care in association with their clinical settings. However, the evidence indicates that integrating family-centered care components into health care services is difficult and confusing to nurses and is often not implemented in a clinical setting. As evidenced by this review, studies have consistently reported similar results;family-centered care was a good perception and understood by pediatric nurses as a concept but inconsistently used in a daily practice setting. Conclusions:This scoping review is the first phase in promoting a strategic plan to provide educational interventions for pediatric nurses to implement family-centered care in their daily practice settings. It's necessary to recognize pediatric nurses'perceptions and practices concerning family-centered care to provide optimal healthcare services in pediatric settings. 展开更多

Objectives:This study was conducted to examine the differences between perceptions and practices of family-centered care among Thai pediatric nurses. Methods:This mixed-methods study consisted of two phases,in the first phase,a descriptive comparative design using the Family-Centered Care Questionnaire-Revised(FCCQ-R)was administered to 142 pediatric nurses from a university hospital in Bangkok,Thailand.in the second phase, qualitative interviews were conducted with 16 pediatric nurses to gather complementary information regarding the major findings from the first phase. Results:The results revealed that family strengths and individuality were rated the highest as the most important elements and the most frequent practices.Parent/professional collaboration was perceived as the least important element, while the design of the heath care delivery system was rated as the least frequent practice. The qualitative data revealed that the major reasons for suboptimal implementation included a common perception that family-centered care is a Western concept, nurses'weak attitudes towards their roles, and a shortage of nurses. Conclusions:Nurses agreed that the identified elements of family-centered care were necessary but that they did not incorporate the concepts into their daily nursing practice to maintain their endorsement of the family-centered care model.Further study is needed to explore how family-centered care is understood and operationalized by Thai nurses and how hospital administration and environments can be modified to support this care model. 展开更多

Objective: we analyzed whether the quality of life of patients with urinary fistula after bladder cancer surgery has changed by using a family-centered treatment model. Methods: we randomly divided 200 hospitalized patients undergoing bladder cancer surgery in recent years into two groups. The classification criteria of each group are basically the same, and there is no significant difference in patients' physical indicators. At the same time of patients' regular visits after discharge, the family-centered nursing model is as follows: compared with the negative emotions of the two groups of patients, the incidence rate of the disease is higher. Results: it can be seen that the depression in the experimental group is statistically significant and the incidence of complications is significantly lower than that in the control group. Basically, no serious complications occurred. The family-centered nursing model can effectively eliminate the negative emotions of patients, meanwhile, the incidence of complications of patients is low, and the quality of life of patients is greatly improved. It can further improve the quality of life of patients by promoting it in clinical aspects. 展开更多

Caregivers play an essential but often unacknowledged role in healthcare, particularly in chronic illness and post-transplantation scenarios. We highlight the profound emotional, physical, and logistical challenges caregivers face,as illuminated by recent studies, including the work of Virches et al about liver transplantation.Pre-transplant caregiving is marked by heightened stress, depression, and emotional strain,as caregivers navigate the unpredictability of conditions like cirrhosis. While liver transplantation significantly alleviates caregiver burden by stabilizing patient health, caregiving evolves rather than ends, requiring ongoing vigilance for post-transplant care, medication adherence, and lifestyle adjustments. We examine the disproportionate impact of caregiving on the family, due to entrenched cultural and gender norms and highlight how these disparities reinforce systemic neglect.Caregiving, often viewed as a familial duty, carries financial, mental, and physical health costs, perpetuating inequities and marginalization. We argue that caregivers are integral to healthcare outcomes and must be included in systemic frameworks to improve patient care.We also advocate for a paradigm shift from patient-centered to family-centered care, emphasizing caregiver inclusion as a core healthcare priority.Policy recommendations related to financial support, respite care, education, and mental health services should be tailored for caregivers.By addressing caregiver needs, healthcare systems can improve patient outcomes, reduce costs, and foster equity. This editorial underscores that caregivers are not ancillary but central to healthcare’s success.Recognizing and supporting them is both an ethical responsibility and a practical necessity for sustainable healthcare. 展开更多

The study by Lu et al explores the integration of remote family psychological support courses(R-FPSC)with traditional caregiver-mediated interventions(CMI)in the context of autism spectrum disorder(ASD).Conducted as a singleblinded randomized controlled trial involving 140 parents of children with ASD,the research highlights the crucial role of parental mental health in optimizing therapeutic outcomes. Results indicate that the addition of R-FPSC significantly enhances parental competence and reduces stress more effectively than CMI alone.Despite improvements in parenting stress and competence,no significant differences were noted in anxiety and depression symptoms between the groups, suggesting that while R-FPSC strengthens parenting skills, its impact on mood disorders requires further investigation. The findings advocate for the inclusion of remote psychological support in family interventions as a feasible and costeffective strategy, broadening access to essential resources and improving both parental and child outcomes. The study emphasizes the need for future research to evaluate the long-term impacts of such interventions and to explore the specific mechanisms through which parental mental health improvements affect child development. 展开更多

Autism spectrum disorder is a developmental disorder impacting a child’s social interactions, behaviors, and communication skills. One of the crucial aspects of autism care, which is often overlooked,is the parent’s mental health status while trying to improve and overcome challenges faced by their child.A study by Lu et al examined the effectiveness of remote family psychological support courses on the mental health status of parents having children with autism spectrum disorder. It was found that the integration of these remote psychological courses with conventional care had a positive impact on the parents by reducing their stress levels, leading to an increase in their competence, and hence they could engage effectively in child therapy. However,a long-term study is necessary to assess whether these interventions have a sustained effect. The study emphasizes the need for developing such culturally sensitive intervention models on a global scale, making them accessible to all and improving autism care support. 展开更多

Background:Denying parents access to their infant in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) is a standard practice in most hospitals across China.Visitation is not usually permitted or may be strictly limited, and NICU care for most neonates is provided by health-care professionals with little participation of the parents. An exception to this rule is the level 2 'Room-In' ward in Qilu Children's Hospital,Shandong University, where parents have 24-hour access to their infants and participate in providing care. Methods:This retrospective cohort study compared the outcomes of infants who were admitted to the NICU and remained there throughout their stay (NICU-NICU group,n=428),admitted to the NICU and then transferred to the Room-In ward (NICU-RIn group,n=1018),or admitted straight to the Room-In ward (RIn only group,n=629).Results:There were no significant differences in the rates of nosocomial infection, bronchopulmonary dysplasia, intraventricular hemorrhage, and retinopathy of prematurity between the NICU-NICU and NICURIn groups. The rate of necrotizing enterocolitis was significantly lower in the NICU-RIn group (P=0.04),while weight gain and duration of hospital stay were significantly higher (both P<0.001).Rates of adverse outcomes were lower in RIn-only infants due to their low severity of illness on admission. Conclusions:Allowing parents access to their infant in the NICU is feasible and safe in China, and may result in improvements in infant outcomes.Further studies are required to generate stronger evidence that can inform changes to neonatal care in China. 展开更多

Background:Families with an infant in need of intensive care most often experience a harmful separation after birth. This is due to a division of medical specialties into neonatal care and maternal care. Therefore,a couplet care intervention is implemented for mother-infant dyads in a neonatal intensive care unit. This study protocol provides a comprehensive evaluation of the intervention. The aim is to evaluate the effect and implementation of a complex couplet care intervention to promote zero separation between mother and infant. Methods:The couplet care intervention is a family-centered model of care, where treatment-requiring mother-infant dyads will be admitted together and receive couplet care by neonatal nurses. The study adheres to the framework of the Medical Research Council and will use a mixed methods embedded design comprising a quasi-experimental trial and a qualitative process evaluation. Finally,a health economic evaluation will be conducted to assess the cost-effectiveness of this complex couplet care intervention.Discussion:Separation of mother-infant dyads after birth has an adverse impact on family health and well-being.This study protocol evaluates a complex couplet care intervention. With this study,a first step is taken to help bridge the gap between current practices and a new care model to prevent the separation of mothers and their infants. 展开更多
