A“smart course”denotes a learner-centered curriculum model that deeply integrates advanced technologies,including generative artificial intelligence(AI)and big data analytics,with ongoing optimization and iterative refinement.This paper examines the pathways of smart course development in higher vocational education by using the Study Tour Course Design course as a practical case study.The analysis is conducted from four perspectives:innovation in educational concepts,innovation in teaching models,transformation in learning paradigms,and enhancement in evaluation systems.By developing a threedimensional framework encompassing“knowledge,skills,and problems”,the focus of education shifts from“knowledge imparting”to“competency development”.This approach fosters a transformation in teaching interactions,moving beyond the traditional“teacher and student interaction”to a more integrated trinity collaboration of“teachers,students,and machines”,and promotes the transformation of students’learning from“passive receptive learning”to“autonomous inquiry-based learning”.Simultaneously,it facilitates the transition of evaluation methods from“outcome-based evaluation”to“multi-dimensional evaluation”. 展开更多

This article supports the idea that changes to the course design should be made straightaway in response to the trainees' specific needs. The context for rural school teacher retraining at Novosibirsk State Technical University in Russia illustrates reasons for making immediate changes necessary as the course progressed, and reaction to them. BE (Business English) has been unprecedentedly emphasized and gradually developed into an independent discipline. The paper aims to explore a holistic course design for business professionals in IBC (Intercultural Business Communication) based on CLT (Communicative Language Teaching). The proposed course design encompasses three-dimensional contents: comprehensive language and expertise training, intercultural communicative competence cultivation, and intercultural PBL (project-based learning). A survey is conducted in a training program of Chinese business professionals in international institutions. Three principles are identified: (1) BE teaching is need-oriented, so the pedagogical methods should be tailored to meet the international workplace requirements; (2) The linguistic and professional knowledge acquisition is achieved through communicative function of the target language; and (3) Learners' participation in intercultural PBL can stimulate learners' interest and enhance their operational capabilities. The findings of the case study indicate that a holistic course design is: (1) Course syllabus should not be formed without taking the leamers' expectation and feedback into consideration; (2) Teaching strategies should be innovated to enhance learners' communicative confidence and competence; and (3) Teaching materials should be adapted and subjected to modification according to the authentic language used in intercultural settings. The study outcomes may also shed light on other disciplines of ESP teaching. 展开更多

Purpose: This paper aims to explore best practices in academic and research libraries in providing information literacy(IL) instruction to science and engineering graduate students.Design/methodology/approach: Using the questionnaire survey method, we conducted an IL assessment study on 114 graduate students enrolling in graduate courses offered by College of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, Graduate University of Chinese Academy of Sciences(GUCAS).Findings: The current situation of graduate students' IL competencies and the need to develop them are revealed. An IL course was designed by subject librarians of National Science Library(NSL), Chinese Academy of Sciences(CAS), with three patterns addressing the development of graduate students' IL competencies.Research limitations: It is only about the practice of subject librarians at NSL, CAS, in designing IL courses for graduate students enrolling in graduate courses offered by College of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, GUCAS.Practical implications: The results can provide a lot of useful information for the improvement of IL competencies of graduate students in science and technology disciplines.Originality/value: It is significant for assisting future subject librarians in incorporating IL skills into their course, especially for academic and research librarians to prepare and develop IL courses for science and engineering graduate students. 展开更多

This study explores the integration path of ideological and political education in the course Design Thinking and Expression of environmental art design,aiming to enhance students’innovative thinking,social responsibility,and awareness of sustainable development.Based on the core philosophy of design thinking(people-oriented,problem-solving,and interdisciplinary collaboration)and the elements of ideological and political education in courses(moral education,cultural confidence,sustainable development,and social equity),the study proposes implementation paths for optimizing course objectives,adjusting course content,innovating teaching methods,and optimizing the evaluation system.Through project-based learning,situational teaching,and interdisciplinary collaboration,combined with practical cases such as historical district renewal,environmental design for rural revitalization,and green commercial space design,it has been verified that the effective integration of ideological and political elements in courses can enhance students’cultural identity,sense of social responsibility,and design innovation ability.This study provides theoretical support and practical demonstration for the ideological and political reform of environmental art design courses.In the future,interdisciplinary collaboration can be further deepened,social practice applications can be expanded,the evaluation system can be improved,and the systematic development of ideological and political courses can be promoted. 展开更多
