Unlike quantum key distribution, secret messages can be transmitted directly on a quantum channel with QSDC. Higher channel capacity and noise suppression capabilities are key to achieving longdistance quantum communication. Here, we report a continuous-variable QSDC scheme based on mask-coding and orbital angular momentum, in which the mask-coding is employed to protect the security of the transmitting messages and to suppress the influence of excess noise. The combination of orbital angular momentum and information block transmission effectively improves the secrecy capacity. In the 800 information blocks ×1310 bits length 10-km experiment, the results show a statistical average bit error rate of 0.38%, a system excess noise value of 0.0184 SNU, and a final secrecy capacity of 6.319×10~6 bps. Therefore, this scheme reduces error bits while increasing secrecy capacity, providing a solution for long-distance large-scale quantum communication, which is capable of transmitting text, images and other information of reasonable size.展开更多

Several complicated methods, such as Fisher Information based method, have already been taken to optimize for the best pupil phase mask in ideal condition. Here one simple point spread function (PSF) based method with only the standard deviation method used to evaluate the PSF stability over the depth of focus is taken to optimize for the best coefficients of pupil phase mask in practical optical systems. Results of imaging simulations for optical systems with and without pupil phase mask are presented, and the sharpness of image is calculated for comparison. The optimized results showed better and much more stable imaging quality over the original system without changing the position of the image plane.展开更多

Based on the stationary phase method, the optical transfer function of the circular pupil system can be easily obtained from the optical transfer function of the rectangular pupil system by modifying the cut-off frequency and the on-axial modulation transfer function. Finally, a system with a cubic phase mask is used as an example to illustrate the way to achieve the optical transfer function of the circular pupil system from the rectangular pupil system.展开更多

The encoding algorithms are designed, whose complexities are linear equations of code length. The construction and encoding algorithms are derived from the effectively encoding characteristics of repeat-accumulate (RA) codes and masking technique. First, the new construction modifies parity-check matrices of RA codes to eliminate error floors of RA codes. Second, the new constructed parity-check matrices are based on Vandermonde matrices; this deterministic algebraic structure is easy for hardware implementation. Theoretic analysis and experimental results show that, at a bit-error rate of 10 × 10^-4, the new codes with lower encoding complexities outperform Mackay's random LDPC codes by 0.4-0.6 dB over an additive white Gauss noise (AWGN) channel.展开更多
