Various microbial species within the complex ecosystem of the microbiome have been shown to play important roles in disease. Identification of bioactive materials capable of altering the abundances of these species both safely and effectively is a major goal in microbiome research. Many traditional Chinese medicines (TCMs) have been reported to affect the composition of the gut microbiome. Here, we summarize studies that have used TCMs to alter the gut microbiome and discuss the response relationship between TCMs and gut microbial species. Methods: We searched the PubMed, Web of Science, and Knowledge Network databases using the terms “traditional Chinese medicine,” “gut microbiome,” and specific system disease names (endocrine, immune, nervous, cardiovascular, and digestive). Studies were excluded if irrelevant or if the experimental procedures were unclear. Results: TCMs have been reported to affect a wide range of gut microbial taxa spanning major phyla, including Firmicutes, Bacteroidetes, Proteobacteria, Verrucomicrobiota, Actinobacteria, and Fusobacteria. In all, 54 TCMs including compounds and extracts have been tested in rodents and 30 have been examined in human trials. Almost all studies have reported positive results in regulating the gut microbiome as well as modulating corresponding phenotypes, spanning diseases of the endocrine, immune, nervous, cardiovascular, and digestive systems. Gut species, including Akkermansia, Bacteroides, Fusobacterium, Faecalibacterium, and E. coli, were found to be regulated by 19 TCMs. A network was constructed to visualize the interactions between TCMs and these taxa. Conclusion: There exists a complex and close relationship between intestinal microflora and diseases. Sufficient experimental data and studies have proved that the imbalance of intestinal microflora affects health by mediating metabolism, immune regulation, inflammation and signal transduction. Many characteristic alterations of intestinal microflora are positively correlated with diseases, so intestinal microflora has become a potential risk index and treatment target for many diseases. Many TCMs affect the relative abundances of microbial species in the gut, and therefore may be useful for modulating the gut microbiome. This review provides a reference for prioritizing candidate TCMs from the enormous repertoire of such medicines to test which specific gut microbes are targeted.展开更多

Traditional Chinese medicine with its effectiveness should also have stemmed out from such logic system. This article aims to rearticulate the underlying lucid multi-dimensional logic system, which faded in obscurity only because of time-out loss of the mid-right concept. Retracing this past tacit but important concept could uncover a multi-dimensional system over a point relating to all matters while capturing the central core of the matter. The seemingly unmanageable multidimensional logic was strengthened by verification processes which affirmed its further extensions, and made up the language of the people, the concepts of yin-yang(阴阳), and the development of extensions of Ba Gua(八卦) derivatives, which furthered the interpretation of the space-time properties and Chinese medicine.展开更多

文摘Background:Over 65 million people have long COVID.Evidence for using Chinese herbal medicine(CHM)to treat long COVID is growing.A systematic review of evidence for guiding clinical decision is warranted. Objective:To examine the effects and safety of CHM in alleviating the severity of dyspnea, fatigue, exercise intolerance, depression, anxiety and insomnia in long COVID adults based on registered randomized clinical trials(RCT).Search strategy:World Health Organization International Clinical Trials Registry Platform and Chinese Clinical Trial Registry were searched for registered trial protocols from database inception to February 10,2023.English(PubM ed,Embase,AMED and CINAHL)and Chinese databases(CNKI,Wanfang Data and CQVIP)were then searched to identify relevant publications from December 2019 through April 6,2023.Inclusion criteria:Registered RCTs that compared the effects of Chinese herbal medicines or Chinese herbal formulas against a control treatment(i.e.,the placebo or usual care)in adults with persistent symptoms of long COVID.The primary outcome of dyspnea, and secondary outcomes of fatigue, exercise intolerance, depression, anxiety and insomnia were measured using validated tools at the end of the treatment.Data extraction and analysis:Data were extracted, and eligible RCTs were evaluated using version 2 of the Cochrane risk-of-bias tool for randomized trials and Grading of Recommendations,Assessment,Development and Evaluations independently by two researchers.Effect sizes were estimated by randomeffects modelling and mean difference(MD).Heterogeneity between trials was quantified by I^(2).Results:Among the 38 registered clinical trials we identified, seven RCTs(1,519 patients)were included in the systematic review. One RCT had a low overall risk of bias.Compared to the control,CHM reduces dyspnea on the Borg Dyspnea Scale score(MD=–0.2,95%confidence interval[CI]=–0.65 to 0.25)with moderate certainty, and reduces fatigue on the Borg Scale(MD=–0.48,95%CI=–0.74 to–0.22)with low certainty.CHM clinically reduces depression on Hamilton Depression Rating Scale score(MD=–6.00,95%CI=–7.56 to–4.44)and anxiety on Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale score(MD=–6.10,95%CI=–7.67 to–4.53),and reduces insomnia on the Insomnia Severity Index(MD=–4.86,95%CI=–12.50 to 2.79)with moderate certainty.Meta-analysis of two RCTs(517 patients)showed that CHM clinically improves exercise intolerance by increasing 6-minute walking distance(MD=–15.92,95%CI=–10.20 to 42.05)with substantial heterogeneity(I^(2)=68%)and low certainty. Conclusion:CHM is associated with a post-treatment clinical reduction in depression and anxiety in long COVID adults, compared to the control, but it does not have a strong treatment effect on dyspnea and insomnia.Effects of CHM on exercise intolerance and fatigue are uncertain, and the safety of using CHM remains questionable.
文摘A"verdict"on the economic value of the patent system by the US economist Fritz Machlup published in 1958 still has an important impact on assessing the effects of the patent system on economic development by intellec-tual property scholars worldwide. This contribution analyses Machlup's study as is and in the light of subsequent US and global legal and economic developments.Machlup's assessment was examined based on empirical data generated by the US Bayh-Dole type legislation as regards the translation of basic research into innovative products and pro-cesses.Moreover,it analyses the impact of the new world economic order instituted in the framework of the World Trade Organization(WTO)mandatorily requiring effective patent protection in all WTO Member States on the eco-nomic development of developing and emerging economies. The case of China, which adopted its first Patent Law in 1984,is addressed in the context of Machlup's verdict and in light of the subsequent economic, scientific and techno-logical development of that country.Concluding thoughts consider today's value of Machlup's"verdict".

文摘Cancer presents a major global public health challenge and requires comprehensive treatments such as surgery and chemotherapy.Chinese herbal medicine(CHM)has gained attention as a potential adjunct therapy, but its efficacy remains uncertain. To evaluate this, researchers conducted a search of EMBASE,Web of Science,PubMed,and the Cochrane Library for relevant articles. They included 33 studies with 17 cohorts, assessed the quality using the Newcastle-Ottawa Scale, and performed statistical analyses with Review Manager and STATA software. The results showed that cancer patients receiving CHM had a significantly reduced mortality risk(relative risk=0.79,95%confidence interval=0.72–0.86;P<0.00001).Both the unadjusted hazard ratio(HR)and the adjusted HR indicated a substantially and consistently lowered mortality risk for CHM-treated patients(unadjusted:P=0.00,I2=98.1%,HR=0.57,95%confidence interval=0.52–0.62;adjusted:P<0.00001,I2=98%,HR=0.59,95%confidence interval=0.53–0.66).Subgroup analysis by tumor type showed that CHM reduced mortality risk in patients with respiratory and digestive cancers. In conclusion,CHM treatment, either alone or in combination with chemotherapy, significantly decreases mortality risk in cancer patients. However, these findings need further verification through large-scale,multicenter,high-quality,long-term trials.
文摘Anxiety, motivation, and strategy have long been seen as critical in second language acquisition. This study presents a systematic review of the literature on these variables in terms of their relationship with one another, their effects on learning outcomes, and how they are affected by technology-assisted tools in the teaching of Chinese as a second language. This study includes 24 articles for the review study based on the criteria and process of the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis Protocol(PRISMA-P)and the clustering techniques of VOSviewer. It is found that 1)anxiety,motivation,and strategy were interrelated, that is,motivation was negatively associated with anxiety but positively related to strategy, while strategy could positively predict anxiety;2)anxiety could both positively and negatively affect learning outcomes, while motivation and strategy could both positively and insignificantly influence learning outcomes;3)the technology-assisted tools used in the classroom could both positively and negatively affect the levels of these variables and learning outcomes in the L2 Chinese context. The need to explore more complicated relationships between language-specific individual variables themselves and other possible factors that affect these variables, such as cultural ones, are also discussed for future research.

文摘Chinese hamster with Chinese characteristics is used in experiments, and it is of great value in the field of medical biology research. However,at present, there is no high-efficiency method for evaluating the genetic quality of Chinese hamsters. Here,we developed a novel Chinese hamster genetic quality detection system using single-nucleotide polymorphism(SNP)markers. To find SNP loci,we conducted whole genome sequencing on 24 Chinese hamsters. Then,we employed an SNP locus screening criterion that we set up previously and initially screened 214 SNP loci with wide genome distribution and high polymorphism level.Subsequently,we developed the SNP detection system using a multitarget region capture technique based on second-generation sequencing, and a 55 SNP panel for genetic evaluation of Chinese hamster populations was developed.PopGen.32.analysis results showed that the average effective allele number,Shannon index, observed heterozygosity, expected heterozygosity, average heterozygosity, polymorphism information, and other genetic parameters of Chinese hamster population A were higher than those in population B.Using scientific screening and optimization,we successfully developed a novel Chinese hamster SNP genetic detection system that can efficiently and accurately analyze the genetic quality of the Chinese hamster population.
文摘The ancient tacit knowledge behind the logic system permeated the culture and promoted numerous impactful inventions throughout the history. The seemingly unmanageable multidimensional logic was strengthened by verification processes which affirmed its further extensions, and made up the language of the people, the concepts of yin-yang(阴阳), and the development of extensions of Ba Gua(八卦) derivatives, which furthered the interpretation of the space-time properties and Chinese medicine.

文摘Cancer therapy continues to face major challenges, including drug resistance, toxicity, and tumor heterogeneity, which highlight the need for multitarget strategies. This review examines the molecular compatibility theory in integrative oncology, which combines traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)with systems biology to address these limitations.TCM formulas, such as Banxia Xiexin decoction and Qiqin Huchang formula, contain bioactive compounds(e.g.,quercetin and berberine)that modulate interconnected pathways(phosphoinositide 3-kinase/protein kinase B and mitogen-activated protein kinase)and the tumor microenvironment, thereby promoting apoptosis, inhibiting angiogenesis, and regulating immune responses. The theory modernizes TCM’s“Jun-Chen-Zuo-Shi”principle by optimizing herb combinations through network pharmacology and omics technologies. For instance,Astragalus membranaceus(Fisch.)Bge.var.mongholicus(Bge.)Hsiao(Huang Qi)-Curcuma phaeocaulis Val.(E Zhu)pairs co-target hypoxia-inducible factor 1-alpha to suppress metastasis, while artificial intelligence-driven models predict synergistic interactions such as quercetin-cyclin-dependent kinase 1 inhibition.Clinical studies have shown improved outcomes;for instance, modified Banxia Xiexin decoction reduces chemotherapy-induced toxicity in gastric cancer, and Xihuang pill enhances immunotherapy via signal transducer and activator of transcription 3-programmed death-ligand 1 modulation.Despite these advances, challenges remain in standardization and mechanistic validation.Future research should prioritize single-cell sequencing, organoid models, and international collaboration to refine personalized therapies and translate TCM into evidence-based oncology.By integrating empirical knowledge with modern science, molecular compatibility theory provides a robust framework for multitarget drug development and the advancement of integrative cancer therapies.

文摘Type 2 diabetes(T2D)presents a significant health challenge, underscoring the need for functional foods and nutraceutical hypoglycemic bioactive peptides for its prevention. This study investigates the potential of proteolytic hydrolysate from artificially cultivated Chinese giant salamander(CGS)meat,a rich protein source,as a preventive strategy for T2D.We produced a CGS meat hydrolysate(CGSh)and demonstrated its ability to inhibit the T2D drug target dipeptidyl peptidaseⅣ(DPP-Ⅳ)through in vitro assays. We identified 5 peptides(WRPPDH,WAPPSKD,IPDSPF,IPEMIF,and VPIAVPT)with high DPP-Ⅳinhibitory activity in CGSh,suggesting its potential antidiabetic effects. In vivo experiments showed that CGSh effectively reduced insulin resistance in mice induced with a high-fat diet,as evidenced by a slower increase in blood glucose levels and a decreased HOMA-IR index.16S rRNA sequencing analysis revealed that CGSh improved gut microbial homeostasis, promoting beneficial microorganisms and reducing harmful bacteria.Metabolomic analyses identified an increase in valeric acid levels and highlighted nine potential biomarker metabolites.By inhibiting metabolic pathways such as AGE-RAGE,CGSh might also prevent diabetic complications and reduce inflammation. These findings suggest that CGSh has a promising hypoglycemic effect, making it a potential functional food ingredient for T2D prevention and treatment.
文摘[Objectives]This meta-analysis evaluated the efficacy of Traditional Chinese Medicine(TCM)manual therapies(Tuina,Daoyin, acupotomology)for idiopathic scoliosis(IS),with dual focus on radiographic outcomes(Cobb angle, vertebral rotation)and patient-centered metrics(pain, disability, quality of life).[Methods]This study systematically searched PubMed,Cochrane Library,EMBASE,Web of Science,CNKI,Wanfang, and VIP databases(from inception to July 2025)for randomized controlled trials(RCTs)comparing TCM manual therapies against controls(bracing, exercise, sham,or no intervention). Two reviewers independently extracted data and assessed methodological quality using the PEDro scale.Meta-analyses employed random-effects models(Stata 18)to calculate Hedges'g with 95%confidence intervals(CI).Heterogeneity was quantified via I 2 statistics, and subgroup analyses examined intervention types(standalone versus combined)and control groups.[Results]Radiographic outcomes:TCM therapies significantly reduced Cobb angle(Hedges'g=-0.93;95%CI:-1.37,-0.49;p<0.001)and vertebral torsion rotation(VTR;g=-0.71;95%CI:-0.91,-0.51;p<0.001)versus controls;patient-centered outcomes:substantial pain reduction(VAS:g=-1.47;95%CI:-2.64,-0.30;p=0.01)and disability improvement(ODI:g=-1.10;95%CI:-1.57,-0.64;p<0.001)were observed.Quality of life(SRS-22)showed non-significant gains(g=2.01;95%CI:-0.43,4.45;p=0.11).[Conclusions]TCM manual therapies significantly improve spinal alignment and reduce pain/disability in IS patients, particularly when integrated with exercise regimens. While results support their role as complementary interventions, standardization of protocols and long-term efficacy studies are needed for clinical implementation.
