Emission reduction potential from beverage carton recycling in China

Recycling postconsumer beverage cartons reduces carbon emissions by minimizing both direct emissions from disposal via incineration or landfills,and by reducing the demand for producing virgin materials.However,the contribution that recycling beverage carton could make to China’s carbon reduction ambitions remains unknown.This study establishes a framework for evaluating the carbon emissions reduction potential of recycling postconsumer beverage cartons from a life-cycle perspective and calculates the potential carbon reductions for 31 Chinese provinces,including trajectories for 2030.We identify key factors that could greatly influence the total emissions reduction potential across all provinces,including the proportion of paperboard used and the emission factor of primary aluminum production.We show the incineration rate and electricity emission factor explain variations among provinces when recycling volumes are held constant.Integrated direct extrusion recycling technology has a greater dependence on electricity than the separating method and is therefore more significantly affected by the electricity emission factor.In 2030,recycling under one of five shared Socioeconomic Pathway scenarios considered shows the highest potential for carbon emissions reduction(median=21304 tons of CO_(2) equivalents).This study provides valuable insights for policymakers seeking to quantify subsidy levels and design long-term plans for beverage carton recycling to promote a circular economy. 展开更多

In this paper,according to the cantilever beam of fetching carton mechanism in square packaging machine, considering the impact of motion of air cylinder on it,its dynamics model and finite element model are built by using ANSYS. This paper not only acquires the deformation distribution,stress distribution and natural frequency of the cantilever beam in the static state; but also gets the dynamic response curve in the maximum deformation and the dynamic stress response curve in the near of the maximum stress during the motion of air cylinder. Result shows that no matter static state or dynamic state,deformation of the cantilever in the fetching carton mechanism is acceptable. The design of mechanism is reliable and its motion is also stable; no resonance can occur on the cantilever beam. 展开更多

In order to determine the theoretical minimum clamping pressure required in carton clamp handling of heavyweight corrugated package(HCP)such as large packages or unitized agricultural product packages,a numerical model of clamping pressure was developed.To develop the model,the dynamic load factor was measured at the handling test course which was designed on the basis of actual handling environment of the target HCP.Also,the static-frictional coefficients between the HCPs and between the HCP and a rubber contact pad of carton clamp arm were analyzed.The main factors in the developed numerical model of clamping pressure were the handling load weight and the effective contact area of the carton clamp arm.In addition,field tests were performed to validate the theoretical minimum clamping pressure calculated from the model.Averaged slip distance from the single package and two packages handling was estimated as a 3.2 mm through field test,and it is expected that the 3.2 mm slip distance will be acceptable for a safe operation in the handling environment.The suggested analytical approach with the numerical model can be a useful means for estimating the clamping pressure of the carton clamps used to handle the HCP. 展开更多
