In an era defined by complex,interconnected challenges like climate change,pandemics,and resource depletion,the traditional siloed approach to science education is proving increasingly insufficient.Interdisciplinary p...In an era defined by complex,interconnected challenges like climate change,pandemics,and resource depletion,the traditional siloed approach to science education is proving increasingly insufficient.Interdisciplinary project-based learning represents a promising path forward in science education,fostering integrated and holistic learning experiences that move beyond isolated subject learning.Grounded in philosophical ideas of holism,pragmatism,constructivism,and transcendentalism,this article presents a case project illustrating the practical application of interdisciplinary project-based learning.This project engages students in integrating concepts from biology,chemistry,earth science,engineering,and social studies.Through phased activities-research and planning,data collection,implementation,and presentation-students develop a decent understanding of real-world problems while fostering skills in collaboration,problem-solving,and a sense of civic responsibility.Additionally,strategies are proposed to navigate the challenges associated with implementing interdisciplinary project-based learning,including aligning projects with standards,investing in professional development,leveraging community resources,and building support from stakeholders.展开更多

This study explores the environmental sensitivity of first-year teacher education stu dents,focusing on the relationship between their Earth Science performance,demographic factors,and their cognitive and emotional re...This study explores the environmental sensitivity of first-year teacher education stu dents,focusing on the relationship between their Earth Science performance,demographic factors,and their cognitive and emotional responses to environmental challenges.Using a descriptive correlational design within a mixed-methods framework,the research incorporates tools such as the Environmental Sensitivity Test(EST),focus group discussions(FGDs),and eco-mapping to comprehensively collect and analyze data.The findings reveal that while students exhibit a general awareness of environmental issues,this awareness does not consistently translate into sustainable practices,particularly in areas such as water conservation and waste management.A weak and statistically insignificant correlation was identified between Earth Science performance and environmental sensitivity,indicating that academic achievement in the subject does not necessarily lead to environmentally responsible behaviors.The results underscore the importance of teacher education programs integrating principles of behavioral psychology,experiential learning,and focused environmental education.Specifically,secondary science teachers should be equipped with practical strategies,such as implementing project-based learning,organizing community-centered environmental initiatives,and fostering interdisciplinary approaches to sustainability.These interventions address the gap in preparing future educators to effectively advocate for and implement sustainable practices.Strengthening teacher preparation programs with these components ensures that science educators are better equipped to cultivate a new generation of environmentally responsible citizens.展开更多

The teaching of earth science in Chinese senior high school geography has faced significant challenges,particularly in the compulsory module“The History of the Earth.”Despite being part of the 2019 curriculum reform...The teaching of earth science in Chinese senior high school geography has faced significant challenges,particularly in the compulsory module“The History of the Earth.”Despite being part of the 2019 curriculum reform,current teaching practices often fail to emphasize the geographical nature of the subject,instead treating it as a mix of geology,biology,and historical facts.This paper addresses this challenge by proposing a framework that maintains a geographical focus while teaching earth science concepts.The framework consists of three integrated approaches.First,it introduces a structured method for teaching geological time through an“Eon→Era→Period→Year”progression,helping students build a comprehensive understanding of temporal scales from a geographical perspective.Second,it demonstrates how to effectively use the“Trade Space for Time”method alongside stratigraphic analysis,enabling students to connect spatial and temporal aspects of geographical phenomena.Third,it develops geographical thinking by following the logical pathway of“Fossil→Biology→Environment,”ensuring that biological evidence is interpreted within a geographical context.For successful implementation,the paper recommends two key strategies:managing interdisciplinary content while maintaining geography’s core focus,and emphasizing geographical characteristics throughout specific teaching content.This approach ensures that“The History of the Earth”fulfills its role in developing students’geographical literacy while contributing to their broader understanding of earth science within China’s senior high school curriculum.展开更多
This paper leverages the Opinions of the State Council on Further Promoting the Reform of the Household Registration System as a quasi-natural experiment to examine the impact of rural migrant urbanization on local go...This paper leverages the Opinions of the State Council on Further Promoting the Reform of the Household Registration System as a quasi-natural experiment to examine the impact of rural migrant urbanization on local government expenditures in science and technology(S&T)and education.Employing a generalized difference-in-differences(generalized-DID)approach and panel data from 271 Chinese prefecture-level and above-level cities spanning 2003–2019,we find that household registration reform driven by this urbanization process significantly increased the absolute level as well as the fiscal share of S&T and education spending.Mechanism analyses indicate that rural migrant urbanization promotes these expenditures through two channels:increasing the overall local fiscal revenue and encouraging a greater proportion of the fiscal resources to be allocated to these sectors.The findings uncover the current evolving trends in fiscal resource allocation due to rural migrant urbanization and provide empirical evidence for optimizing the provision of public services and enhancing the potential of long-term economic development.展开更多

Since the introduction of geographic information systems(GIS)in the 1960s,it has evolved tremendously to an extent that it permeates our daily lives.Initially,GIS usage started in the developed countries and now incre...Since the introduction of geographic information systems(GIS)in the 1960s,it has evolved tremendously to an extent that it permeates our daily lives.Initially,GIS usage started in the developed countries and now increasingly filtered to developing countries.The town planning profession was one of the early adopters of GIS.Geospatial information is a useful source of data that is needed in urban planning.In these days of the New Urban Agenda 2030,smart cities are even more required from planners in using geospatial information to face urban challenges such as sustainable urban development and climate change.Although GIS has promised a lot for urban planning,it has not reached its full potential.Moreover,many studies have focused on developed countries with limited studies on geospatial information application in municipalities and GIS education from a perspective of developing countries.In this study,a survey on the usage of geospatial information science(GSIS)in two cities,namely Bulawayo in Zimbabwe and Ekurhuleni in South Africa,was conducted,and an overview of the state of GIS curricula in planning schools is discussed.The results indicate that considerable progress has been made in the application of geospatial information in municipal planning;however,there are impediments limiting the full utilization of geospatial information in local municipalities.These impediments include:inadequate GIS curricula in planning schools,lack of resources,and lack of political will.These challenges manifest differently in well-resourced municipalities and those with limited resources.The study proposes planning-relevant GIS curricula to improve the level of GIS use in planning practice.展开更多

文摘The teaching of earth science in Chinese senior high school geography has faced significant challenges,particularly in the compulsory module“The History of the Earth.”Despite being part of the 2019 curriculum reform,current teaching practices often fail to emphasize the geographical nature of the subject,instead treating it as a mix of geology,biology,and historical facts.This paper addresses this challenge by proposing a framework that maintains a geographical focus while teaching earth science concepts.The framework consists of three integrated approaches.First,it introduces a structured method for teaching geological time through an“Eon→Era→Period→Year”progression,helping students build a comprehensive understanding of temporal scales from a geographical perspective.Second,it demonstrates how to effectively use the“Trade Space for Time”method alongside stratigraphic analysis,enabling students to connect spatial and temporal aspects of geographical phenomena.Third,it develops geographical thinking by following the logical pathway of“Fossil→Biology→Environment,”ensuring that biological evidence is interpreted within a geographical context.For successful implementation,the paper recommends two key strategies:managing interdisciplinary content while maintaining geography’s core focus,and emphasizing geographical characteristics throughout specific teaching content.This approach ensures that“The History of the Earth”fulfills its role in developing students’geographical literacy while contributing to their broader understanding of earth science within China’s senior high school curriculum.

文摘This paper leverages the Opinions of the State Council on Further Promoting the Reform of the Household Registration System as a quasi-natural experiment to examine the impact of rural migrant urbanization on local government expenditures in science and technology(S&T)and education.Employing a generalized difference-in-differences(generalized-DID)approach and panel data from 271 Chinese prefecture-level and above-level cities spanning 2003–2019,we find that household registration reform driven by this urbanization process significantly increased the absolute level as well as the fiscal share of S&T and education spending.Mechanism analyses indicate that rural migrant urbanization promotes these expenditures through two channels:increasing the overall local fiscal revenue and encouraging a greater proportion of the fiscal resources to be allocated to these sectors.The findings uncover the current evolving trends in fiscal resource allocation due to rural migrant urbanization and provide empirical evidence for optimizing the provision of public services and enhancing the potential of long-term economic development.
文摘目的总结1999-2025年3月1日国际药物经济学教育研究的发展现状与趋势,为我国临床药学专业药物经济学课程体系建设提供参考。方法检索Web of Science核心合集数据库1999-2025年3月1日发表的药物经济学教育相关文献,运用Bibliometrix软件对文献数量、发文国家/地区、机构、作者、期刊和关键词进行文献计量学分析。结果共纳入623篇相关文献。美国为最主要研究国家,发文量、总被引频次和平均被引频次居全球前列;英国、澳大利亚、德国等亦具较高学术影响力。University of London为最活跃机构,Evers SMAA为高产作者,BMJ Open为主要发文期刊。研究关键词主要集中在健康照护、成本效益、质量评估、项目影响等方向。结论1999-2025年3月1日间药物经济学教育研究持续增长,发达国家在研究数量和影响力方面处于领先地位。我国研究发展迅速,但仍需加强高水平产出与国际合作,推动药物经济学教育质量与影响力进一步提升。

文摘Carrying out executive education in computer science(CS)brings both opportunities and challenges.The major advantages are that it helps research programs with funding,data and reallife cases,and both professors and students can benefit from it by having greater engagement with industry.However,the main challenge is that most CS professors and doctoral students are currently not interested in executive education because they are more interested in their academic work.This paper first introduces the background of the Singapore government’s initiative for lifelong education for public,then presents the response from the National University of Singapore(NUS)that ultimately led to several executive education programs.Particular attention is given to the experience of the NUS School of Computing in carrying out computer science executive education.

文摘Since the introduction of geographic information systems(GIS)in the 1960s,it has evolved tremendously to an extent that it permeates our daily lives.Initially,GIS usage started in the developed countries and now increasingly filtered to developing countries.The town planning profession was one of the early adopters of GIS.Geospatial information is a useful source of data that is needed in urban planning.In these days of the New Urban Agenda 2030,smart cities are even more required from planners in using geospatial information to face urban challenges such as sustainable urban development and climate change.Although GIS has promised a lot for urban planning,it has not reached its full potential.Moreover,many studies have focused on developed countries with limited studies on geospatial information application in municipalities and GIS education from a perspective of developing countries.In this study,a survey on the usage of geospatial information science(GSIS)in two cities,namely Bulawayo in Zimbabwe and Ekurhuleni in South Africa,was conducted,and an overview of the state of GIS curricula in planning schools is discussed.The results indicate that considerable progress has been made in the application of geospatial information in municipal planning;however,there are impediments limiting the full utilization of geospatial information in local municipalities.These impediments include:inadequate GIS curricula in planning schools,lack of resources,and lack of political will.These challenges manifest differently in well-resourced municipalities and those with limited resources.The study proposes planning-relevant GIS curricula to improve the level of GIS use in planning practice.
