Gastric ulcer(GU)is a common digestive system disease.Acupuncture,as one of the external treatments of traditional Chinese medicine(TCM),has the characteristics of multi-target,multi-pathway and multi-level action in the treatment of GU.The relationship between meridian points and Zang-fu is an important part of the theory of TCM,which is crucial for the diagnosis and treatment of diseases. There is an external and internal link between acupoints and Zang-fu.The pathological reaction of Zang-fu can manifest as acupoint sensitization, while stimulation of acupoints can play a therapeutic role in the internal Zang-fu.Therefore,the acupoint has the functions of reflecting and treating diseases. This review explores the tender points on the body surface of patients with GU and the rules of acupoint selection. In addition,Zusanli(ST36),as one of the most used acupoints of the stomach meridian, was selected to show the mechanisms behind acupoint stimulation in the treatment of GU in greater detail, specifically in the well-studied model of the stress GU(SGU).Hence, the mechanisms of acupuncture at ST36 and points commonly used in combination with ST36 to treat SGU are discussed further.Treatment effects can be achieved through anti-inflammatory and antioxidant activities, gastric mucosal injury repair, and interaction with the brain-gut axis.In summary, this review provides evidence for a comprehensive understanding of the phenomena and mechanism of acupoint functions for GU. 展开更多

Transcutaneous electrical acupoint stimulation(TEAS)is a kind of physical therapy that use electric cur-rent through the electrodes placed on the surface of acupoints to produce clinical effects in the human body, which is characterized by less adverse reaction and convenient operation. It has been widely used in the treatment of various diseases. This review introduces six major clinical applications of TEAS,named analgesia, regulation of gastrointestinal function, improvement of reproductive function, enhancement of cognitive function, promotion of limb function recovery and relief of fatigue.Besides,TEAS has been ap-plied to the treatment of other chronic diseases such as hypertension and diabetes, achieving satisfactory clinical effects. However, two crucial challenges are encountered in the development of TEAS.One is the lack of standardization in the selection of parameters such as waveform, frequency, intensity and stimula-tion duration. The other is the limitation on the flexibility in the acupoint selection. This review analyzes key issues that need to be addressed in the current clinical application of TEAS,such as the selection of parameters and acupoints, and this review provides a certain reference value for optimizing regimens of TEAS and promoting its development and application. 展开更多

Objective:Varied acupoint selections represent a potential cause of the uncertainty surrounding the efficacy of acupuncture for knee osteoarthritis(OA).Skin temperature,a guiding factor for acupoint selection, may help to address this issue. This study explored thermal sensitization of acupoints used for the treatment of knee OA.Methods:This cross-sectional case-control study enrolled cases aged 45–75 years with symptomatic knee OA and age-and gender-matched non-knee OA controls in a 1:1 ratio. All participants underwent infrared thermographic imaging. The primary outcome was the relative skin temperature of acupoint(STA),and the secondary outcome was the absolute STA of 11 acupoints. The Z test was used to compare the relative and absolute STAs between the groups.Principal component analysis was used to extract the common factors(CFs,acupoint cluster)in the STAs.A general linear model was used to identify factors affecting the STA in the knee OA cases. For the group comparisons of relative STA,P<0.0045(adjusted for 11 acupoints through Bonferroni correction)was considered to indicate statistical significance. For other analyses,P<0.05 was used as the threshold for statistical significance. Results:The analysis included 308 participants, consisting of 151 cases(mean age:[64.58±6.67]years;male:25.83%;mean body mass index:[25.70±3.16]kg/m~2)and 157 controls(mean age:[63.37±5.96]years;male:26.11%;mean body mass index:[24.47±2.84]kg/m~2).The relative STAs of ST34(P=0.0001),EX-LE2(P<0.0001),EX-LE5(P=0.0006),SP10(P<0.0001),BL40(P=0.0012)and GB39(P=0.0037)were higher in the knee OA group. No difference was found in the STAs of ST35,ST36,SP9,GB33 and GB34.Four CFs were identified for relative STA in both groups. The acupoints within each CF were consistent between the groups. The mean values of the relative STAs across each CF were higher in the knee OA group. In the knee OA cases,no factors were observed to affect the relative STA,while age and gender were found to affect the absolute STA.Conclusion:Among patients with knee OA,thermal sensitization occurs in the acupoints of the lower extremity, exhibiting localized and regional thermal consistencies. The thermally sensitized acupoints that we identified in this study,ST34,SP10,EX-LE2,EX-LE5,GB39 and BL40,may be good choices for the acupuncture treatment of knee OA. 展开更多

Immunization has long played essential roles in preventing diseases. However, the desire for precision delivery of vaccines to boost a robust immune response remains largely unmet. Here,we describe the use of acupoint delivery of nanovaccines(ADN)to elicit dual-niche immunological priming.ADN can simultaneously stimulate mast cell-assisted maturation of dendritic cells at the acupoint and enable direct delivery of nanovaccines into the draining lymph nodes. We demonstrate that ADN not only provokes antigen presentation by lymph node-resident CD8α^(+)dendritic cells, but also induces the accumulation of nanovaccines in B-cell zones, amplifying antigen-specific cytotoxic T lymphocyte responses and immunoglobulin G antibody expression in draining lymph nodes.ADN also generates systemic immune responses by causing immune memory and preventing T-cell anergy in the spleen.Further supported by evoking effective antitumor responses and high-level antiviral antibodies in mice,ADN provides a simple yet versatile platform for advanced nanovaccination. 展开更多

Objective:To investigate the effects of“Three Methods and Three Acupoints”(TMTP)Tuina therapy on spinal microcirculation in sciatic nerve injury(SNI).Methods:Thirty-six SpragueeDawley rats were randomly assigned to four groups:normal, sham operation, model, and TMTP Tuina.Successful model induction was confirmed by observable hind limb lameness. After 20 sessions, hind limb grip strength and motor nerve conduction velocity(MNCV)were measured at baseline and following the 10th and 20th intervention.CD31 and a-SMA in the ventral horn of SNI model rats were detected using immunofluorescence.Motor neurons in the ventral horn were detected by Nissl staining.PTEN levels in the ventral horn were measured by ELISA,and PI3K,Akt,BDNF,VEGF,and HIF-1a expression was determined by RT-PCR.Spinal cord microcirculation was evaluated by western blotting analysis of the levels of Akt,p-Akt,BDNF,and VEGF.Results:Hind limb grip strength and MNCV significantly improved in the TMTP Tuina group compared to the model group(both P<.001).Morphology of ventral horn motor neurons in the TMTP Tuina group improved compared to the model group, with increased expressions of a-SMA(P=.002)and CD31(P=.006).Western blot analysis indicated increased expression of VEGF(P=.005),p-Akt(P<.001),and BDNF(P=.008)in the ventral horn following Tuina treatment.RT-PCR analysis revealed increased expression of PI3K,Akt,BDNF,VEGF and HIF-1a(all P<.05).In contrast, expression of PTEN decreased compared to the model group(P<.001).Conclusion:TMTP Tuina therapy may restore motor function in rats, enhance ventral horn motor neuron morphology, and promote angiogenesis and vascular smooth muscle proliferation. The mechanism may involve the activation of the PI3K/Akt signaling pathway. 展开更多

Objective:To explore the core acupuncture acupoints and pattern-adapted acupoint combination rules for autism spectrum disorder(ASD)complicated with sleep disorder using clinical data mining technology. Methods:A retrospective analysis was conducted on the diagnosis and treatment data of 104 children with ASD complicated with sleep disorder admitted to Xi’an Traditional Chinese Medicine(TCM)Encephalopathy Hospital from January 2022 to December 2024.Cross-pattern main acupoints were screened via frequency statistics,chi-square test, and factor analysis;pattern-specific auxiliary acupoints were extracted by combining multiple correspondence analysis, cluster analysis, and association rule mining. Results:Ten cross-pattern main acupoints(Baihui,Sishenzhen,Language Area 1,Language Area 2,Neiguan,Shenmen,Yongquan,Xuanzhong)were identified, and acupoint combination schemes for four major TCM patterns(Hyperactivity of Liver and Heart Fire,Deficiency of Kidney Essence,Deficiency of Both Heart and Spleen,Hyperactivity of Liver with Spleen Deficiency)were established. Conclusion:Acupuncture treatment should follow the principle of“regulating spirit and calming the brain as the root, and dredging collaterals based on pattern differentiation as the branch”.The synergy between main and auxiliary acupoints can accurately regulate the disease, providing a basis for precise clinical treatment. 展开更多

Facial paralysis comorbidities is now understood to include two distinct forms:synkinesis and micro-entrapment syndrome of nerves innervating the face(MESNIF).These disorders manifest as oromandibular synkinesis, stiffness and atrophy of facial muscles on one side, which affect activities of daily living.Acupoint Injection is a treatment for facial paralysis, combining the meridian theory of traditional Chinese medicine, with the injection of specific drugs into acupuncture points of the face.In recent years, the use of acupoint injections has shown in remarkable clinical efficacy and few adverse effects. We report the case to introduce this integrative therapy and outline the key principles of rehabilitation therapy. 展开更多

Objective:To evaluate the efficacy and safety of transcutaneous electrical acupoint stimulation(TEAS)for muscle atrophy in patients with immobilization after surgical fixation of foot and ankle fractures. Methods:This was a two-arm randomized controlled trial wherein 80 patients were recruited and divided into control(n=40)and intervention(n=40)groups.The control group received conventional orthopedic treatment, whereas the intervention group received TEAS and conventional treatment. The intervention group received TEAS 3 times a week for 30 min each time for 8 weeks. The primary out-comes were muscle thickness(MT)and cross-sectional area(CSA)of the rectus femoris and gastroc-nemius muscles, whereas the secondary outcome measure was echo intensity(EI).Data were collected before the fixation operations(baseline assessment)and 4 and 8 weeks after intervention. Results:Compared with baseline, the MT and CSA were reduced in both groups by the end of treatment, whereas EI increased in both groups. At week 4,the reduction in the rectus femoris CSA in the inter-vention group was significantly lower than that in the control group(P=0.02);however,the between-group differences in the MT and EI(all P>0.05)were not significant. No serious adverse events were observed in either group. Conclusion:Our study showed that TEAS can improve muscle atrophy by attenuating the decline in the muscle CSA.Because this was only a pilot trial, subsequent studies will need longer follow-ups and larger sample sizes. 展开更多
