This study investigated the relationship between social anxiety and problematic Internet use in college students,and how it is moderated by attitudes toward seeking professional psychological help.Participants were 14...This study investigated the relationship between social anxiety and problematic Internet use in college students,and how it is moderated by attitudes toward seeking professional psychological help.Participants were 1451 Chinese college students(female=60.2%;mean age=19.85 years,SD=1.89 years).They completed the Interaction Anxiousness Scale,the Attitudes Toward Seeking Professional Psychological Help Scale-Short Form,and the Problematic Internet Use Scale.The results revealed that college students with higher social anxiety reported greater severity of problematic Internet use.Moreover,students with negative attitudes toward seeking professional psychological help also reported greater severity of problematic Internet use.Notably,attitudes toward seeking professional psychological help moderated the relationship between social anxiety and problematic Internet use in college student,such that the relationship was weakened when attitudes toward seeking professional psychological help was positive.These findings suggest a need for student development and support programs for promoting openness to seeking professional psychological help if with problematic Internet use from social anxiety.展开更多

The study examined work engagement and coping strategies in the relationship between abusive supervision and helping behaviors among hospitality employees.Participants were 386 frontline hospitality employees(50.8%fem...The study examined work engagement and coping strategies in the relationship between abusive supervision and helping behaviors among hospitality employees.Participants were 386 frontline hospitality employees(50.8%females;38.9%with 1–5 years of experience;78.3%in the 18–40 age range).They self-reported coping strategies,abusive supervision,work engagement,and helping behaviors.Structural equation model results showed that abusive supervision to be associated with lower employee helping behaviors.Work engagement was higher with employees’helping behaviors.Engaged employees would unleash helping behaviors.Work engagement mediated the relationship between abusive supervision and helping behaviors,lowering the abusive supervision risk.Finally,avoidance of contact exacerbated the moderated abusive supervision–work engagement relationship for lower work engagement,while support-seeking and reframing exerted no moderation role.Findings suggest that avoiding an immediate supervisor exacerbates abusive supervision.Hence,applying behavior-based interviews when hiring supervisors would be of strategic advantage to employees’productivity.展开更多
This study examined how perceived human-computer interaction(HCI)is related to employees’helping behaviors with role breadth self-efficacy and digital fluency.An online scenario experiment(study 1;female=61.3%;mean a...This study examined how perceived human-computer interaction(HCI)is related to employees’helping behaviors with role breadth self-efficacy and digital fluency.An online scenario experiment(study 1;female=61.3%;mean age=30.79 years;bachelor’s degree=68.7%)and a questionnaire survey(study 2;male=44.2%;younger than 30 years=50.6%;bachelor’s degree=61.5%)found that perceived HCI exerts a significant positive indirect effect on employee helping behavior through improved role breadth self-efficacy.This positive indirect effect is stronger when employee digital fluency is high.Findings are consistent with social cognitive theory,which proposes that the relationship among environment,individual cognition,and behavior is mutually determined,and the influence of environment on individual behavior varies with individual characteristics.The findings imply a need for employer organizations to create favorable human-computer interaction environment for employees’digital fluency to promote role breadth self-efficacy and helping behavior in the digital age.展开更多

Recent work suggests that the incidence of osteoporotic fracture is rising ...Osteoporotic fractures are a major public health problem worldwide, but incidence varies greatly across racial groups and geographic regions. Recent work suggests that the incidence of osteoporotic fracture is rising among Asian populations. Studies comparing areal bone mineral density and fracture across races generally indicate lower bone mineral density in Asian individuals including the Chinese, but this does not reflect their relatively low risk of non-vertebral fractures. In contrast, the Chinese have relatively high vertebral fracture rates similar to that of Caucasians. The paradoxically low risk for some types of fractures among the Chinese despite their low areal bone mineral density has been elucidated in part by recent advances in skeletal imaging. New techniques for assessing bone quality non-invasively demonstrate that the Chinese compensate for smaller bone size by differences in hip geometry and microstructural skeletal organization. Studies evaluating factors influencing racial differences in bone remodeling, as well as bone acquisition and loss, may further elucidate racial variation in bone microstructure. Advances in understanding the microstructure of the Chinese skeleton have not only helped to explain the epidemiology of fracture in the Chinese, but may also provide insight into the epidemiology of fracture in other races as well.展开更多

By presenting a skillful though somewhat perverse merger of binary oppositions at different levels （racial, social, moral, and psychological）, the writer makes borderlines of all sorts appear artificial and therefore invalidates them. Thus, childhood merges with adulthood through sexual traumas that live on; touch with no touch as the evil touch of a parent equals an abhorrence of touching the child Other; truth with a lie as it proves as destructive as lying in good faith; passing blackness with blue blackness as the former conceives the latter; and appearances with reality in the ironic title of the book, where it is both the mother and the child that in fact need God＇s help. Thus, as Toni Morrison demonstrates, a thoroughly surreptitious, because natural, process of dissolution of all barriers makes them appear to be arbitrary constructs responsible for the equally arbitrary notion of the Other. Adolescents’emotions and preferences are influenced by their childhood experiences.In today’s world,there is a pervasive eagerness for happiness.Happiness has been linked to feelings of self-strength,seeking help,and...Adolescents’emotions and preferences are influenced by their childhood experiences.In today’s world,there is a pervasive eagerness for happiness.Happiness has been linked to feelings of self-strength,seeking help,and psy-chological health.The current quantitative research was designed with a positive psychological perspective to compare Pakistani and Chines adolescents’self-strength,seeking help,and happiness.The research design of the study was causal-comparative.The study population consisted of 400 Pakistani and 409 Chinese adolescents studying in the elementary grades of both countries.The sample was selected by using a simple random sampling technique.It consisted of 413 boys(51%)and 396 girls(49%),319(39)of them were from the age group of 13–14 years,386(48%)of them were from the age group of 15–16 years,and 104(12.9%)were from the age group of 17–18 years.Three different scales were developed to collect study data.Independent sample t-test and simple linear regression were used to test study hypotheses.The analysis revealed that Pakistani adolescents have signifi-cantly higher self-strength,seeking help and happiness than their counterparts.It was also found that adolescents’self-strength and seeking help significant affect their happiness.Based on thefindings,it was suggested to inves-tigate the factors contributing to the improved self-strength,seeking help,and happiness of Pakistani adolescents.It was also recommended to investigate the mediating effect of adolescents’self-strength on the relationship between their happiness and seeking help.展开更多
