A generalized multiple-mode prolate spherical wave functions (PSWFs) multi-carrier with index modulation approach is proposed with the purpose of improving the spectral efficiency of PSWFs multi-carrier systems. The proposed method, based on the optimized multi-index modulation, does not limit the number of signals in the first and second constellations and abandons the concept of limiting the number of signals in different constellations. It successfully increases the spectrum efficiency of the system while expanding the number of modulation symbol combinations and the index dimension of PSWFs signals. The proposed method outperforms the PSWFs multi-carrier index modulation method based on optimized multiple indexes in terms of spectrum efficiency, but at the expense of system computational complexity and bit error performance. For example, with n=10 subcarriers and a bit error rate of 1×10^(-5),spectral efficiency can be raised by roughly 12.4%. 展开更多

BACKGROUND Gastrointestinal(GI)dysfunction is common after laparoscopic radical gastrectomy for gastric cancer and affects rehabilitation. While conventional treatments can alleviate symptoms to a certain extent, they often fail to fully address the issue of insufficient GI motility. The GI motility therapeutic apparatus promotes dynamic recovery by simulating GI electric waves, whereas acupuncture regulates zang-fu qi movement, both offering effective interventions. However, there are few clinical studies investigating the combined use of GI motility therapy and acupuncture to promote GI function recovery in patients after GI laparoscopic radical surgery.AIM To evaluate the effects of combining GI motility therapy devices with acupuncture on GI function in patients undergoing radical laparoscopic surgery.METHODS This retrospective study included 196 patients who underwent radical GI endoscopic surgery at the Shanghai Yangzhi Rehabilitation Hospital(Shanghai Sunshine Rehabilitation Center),School of Medicine,Tongji University, from June 2022 to May 2024.Patients were classified into a normal group(conventional treatment,n=96)and an integrated group(conventional+GI motility therapy device+acupuncture,n=100).The effects on GI function, hormone levels preand post-treatment,GI symptoms, immune function, adverse reactions, and patient satisfaction in both groups were assessed.RESULTS Compared with the normal group, the integrated group demonstrated significantly better overall effectiveness(93.00%vs 84.3%;P<0.05)and shorter durations for first exhaust, feeding, defecation, and hospital stay(P<0.05).Post-treatment,the integrated group had lower gastrin and GI symptom rating scale scores and higher motilin, vasoactive intestinal peptide, and immune marker(CD3+,CD4+,CD4+/CD8+,and natural killer cells)levels(P<0.05).The integrated group, compared to the normal group, also reported fewer adverse reactions(5.00%vs 14.58%)and higher patient satisfaction(97.00%vs 84.38%),both statistically significant(P<0.05).CONCLUSION The combination of a GI motility therapy device and acupuncture promotes GI function recovery after radical gastrectomy, regulates GI hormones and immune function, and is safe and effective. 展开更多

In this study, the thermodynamic behaviors of the intrinsic frequency and buckling temperature of rectangular plates of functionally graded materials(FGMs)are explored based on the modified couple stress theory(MCST)and the novel dual powerlaw scale distribution theory. The effects of linear, homogeneous, and non-homogeneous temperature fields on the frequency and buckling temperature of FGM microplates are evaluated in detail. The results show that the porosity greatly affects the mechanical properties of FGM plates, reducing their frequency and flexural temperature compared with non-porous plates.Different temperature profiles alter plate frequencies and buckling temperatures. The presence and pattern of scale effect parameters are also shown to be crucial for the mechanical response of FGM plates. The present research aims to provide precise guidelines for the micro-electro-mechanical system(MEMS)fabrication by elucidating the complex interplay between thermal, material, and structural factors that affect the performance of FGM plates in advanced applications. 展开更多

The classical phase field model has wide applications for brittle materials, but nonlinearity and inelasticity are found in its stress-strain curve. The degradation function in the classical phase field model makes it a linear formulation of phase field and computationally attractive, but stiffness reduction happens even at low strain. In this paper, generalized polynomial degradation functions are investigated to solve this problem. The first derivative of degradation function at zero phase is added as an extra constraint, which renders higher-order polynomial degradation function and nonlinear formulation of phase field.Compared with other degradation functions(like algebraic fraction function, exponential function, and trigonometric function),this polynomial degradation function enables phase in[0,1](should still avoid the first derivative of degradation function at zero phase to be 0),so there is noconvergence problem. The good and meaningful finding is that, under the same fracture strength, the proposed phase field model has a larger length scale, which means larger element size and better computational efficiency. This proposed phase field model is implemented in LS-DYNA user-defined element and user-defined material and solved by the Newton-Raphson method.A tensile test shows that the first derivative of degradation function at zero phase does impact stress-strain curve.Mode I,mode II,and mixed-mode examples show the feasibility of the proposed phase field model in simulating brittle fracture. 展开更多

Extensive experimental studies have been performed on the Diels-Alder(DA)reactions in ionic liquids(ILs),which demonstrate that the IL environment can significantly influence the reaction rates and selectivity. However, the underlying microscopic mechanism remains ambiguous. In this work, the multiscale reaction density functional theory is applied to explore the effect of 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium hexafluorophosphate([BMIM][PF_(6)])solvent on the reaction of cyclopentadiene(CP)with acrolein, methyl acrylate,or acrylonitrile.By analyzing the free energy landscape during the reaction,it is found that the polarization effect has a relatively small influence, while the solvation effect makes both the activation free energy and reaction free energy decrease. In addition, the rearrangement of local solvent structure shows that the cation spatial distribution responds more evidently to the reaction than the anion, and this indicates that the cation plays a dominant role in the solvation effect and so as to affect the reaction rates and selectivity of the DA reactions. 展开更多

Brain functional networks model the brain's ability to exchange information across different regions, aiding in the understanding of the cognitive process of human visual attention during target searching, thereby contributing to the advancement of camouflage evaluation. In this study, images with various camouflage effects were presented to observers to generate electroencephalography(EEG)signals, which were then used to construct a brain functional network. The topological parameters of the network were subsequently extracted and input into a machine learning model for training. The results indicate that most of the classifiers achieved accuracy rates exceeding 70%.Specifically,the Logistic algorithm achieved an accuracy of 81.67%.Therefore,it is possible to predict target camouflage effectiveness with high accuracy without the need to calculate discovery probability. The proposed method fully considers the aspects of human visual and cognitive processes, overcomes the subjectivity of human interpretation, and achieves stable and reliable accuracy. 展开更多

The increasing frequency of extreme weather events raises the likelihood of forest wildfires. Therefore, establishing an effective fire prediction model is vital for protecting human life and property, and the environment. This study aims to build a prediction model to understand the spatial characteristics and piecewise effects of forest fire drivers.Using monthly grid data from 2006 to 2020,a modeling study analyzed fire occurrences during the September to April fire season in Fujian Province,China. We compared the fitting performance of the logistic regression model(LRM),the generalized additive logistic model(GALM),and the spatial generalized additive logistic model(SGALM).The results indicate that SGALMs had the best fitting results and the highest prediction accuracy.Meteorological factors significantly impacted forest fires in Fujian Province.Areas with high fire incidence were mainly concentrated in the northwest and southeast.SGALMs improved the fitting effect of fire prediction models by considering spatial effects and the flexible fitting ability of nonlinear interpretation. This model provides piecewise interpretations of forest wildfire occurrences, which can be valuable for relevant departments and will assist forest managers in refining prevention measures based on temporal and spatial differences. 展开更多

We employed random distributions and gradient descent methods for the Generator Coordinate Method(GCM)to identify effective basis wave functions, taking halo nuclei ^(6)He and ^(6)Li as examples.By comparing the ground state(0^(+))energy of ^(6)He and the excited state(0^(+))energy of 6 Li calculated with various random distributions and manually selected generation coordinates,we found that the heavy tail characteristic of the logistic distribution better describes the features of the halo nuclei.Subsequently, the Adam algorithm from machine learning was applied to optimize the basis wave functions, indicating that a limited number of basis wave functions can approximate the converged values. These results offer some empirical insights for selecting basis wave functions and contribute to the broader application of machine learning methods in predicting effective basis wave functions. 展开更多

Loess is susceptible to loading effects such as significant changes in strength and volume variation caused by loading and wetting. In this study, considering the different connection states of pore water and gas in loess fabric, the gas phase closure case is incorporated into a unified form of the generalized effective stress framework, introducing a damage parameter considering the effects of closed pore gas.The loading effects of unsaturated loess under wide variations in saturation are described in a unified way,and the model performance is verified by corresponding stress and hydraulic path tests. The results indicated that the collapse response involves the initial void ratio of loess, and the coupled outwards motion of the loading-collapse(LC)yield surface under loading enhances its structural strength.Suction-enhanced yield stress requires a greater"tensile stress"to counteract its structural stability. The nucleation of bubbles at high saturation causes a decrease in yield stress. The loading effect exhibits a smaller collapse behavior when the influence of closed gas is considered, whereas the suction path does not cross the LC in the stress space under hydraulic action for the same parameters, which amplifies the influence of closed gas on loess deformation. 展开更多

Although generative conversational artificial intelligence(AI)can answer questions well and hold conversations as a person, the semantic ambiguity inherent in text-based communication poses challenges to effective use.Effective use reflects the users’utilization of generative conversational AI to achieve their goals, which has not been previously studied.Drawing on the media naturalness theory,we examined how generative conversational AI’s content and style naturalness affect effective use.A two-wave survey was conducted to collect data from 565 users of generative conversational AI.Two techniques were used in this study.Initially, partial least squares structural equation modeling(PLS-SEM)was applied to determine the variables that significantly affected the mechanisms(i.e.,cognitive effort and communication ambiguity)and effective use.Secondly,an artificial neural network model was used to evaluate the relative importance of the significant predictors of mechanisms and effective use identified from the PLS-SEM analysis. The results revealed that the naturalness of content and style differed in their effects on cognitive effort and communication ambiguity.Additionally, cognitive effort and communication ambiguity negatively affected effective use. This study advances the literature on effective use by uncovering the psychological mechanisms underlying effective use and their antecedents. In addition, this study offers insights into the design of generative conversational AI. 展开更多

An ionic liquid assisted hydrogel modified silica was synthesized using a one-pot polymerization and physical coating technique and subsequently applied to mixed-mode liquid chromatography.Analytical techniques, including Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy(FT-IR),X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS),and elemental analysis, etc.,confirmed the successful prepared of this innovative stationary phase. The unique combination of amide, long alkyl chain, and imidazole ring in the hydrogel coating enables the stationary phase to function effectively in hydrophilic/reversed-phase/ion exchange liquid chromatography.Notably, the stationary phase exhibited superior separation performance owing to the synergistic effect of the ionic liquid and hydrogel. This was particularly evident when analyzing various analytes such as organic acids,nucleosides/bases,polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons(PAHs)and anions.Furthermore, under our operating conditions,an excellent column efficiency of 53,642.9 plates/m was achieved for theobromine. In summary,we have proposed a straightforward strategy to enhance the separation performance of hydrogel coatings in liquid chromatography, thereby broadening the potential applications of hydrogels in the field of separation. 展开更多

Amyloid-like proteins are critical for interfacial adhesion across various marine organisms and bacteria. However, the specific contributions of different functional residues remain unclear.Herein,we introduce an approach to deconstruct and mimic these residues using synthetic homopolymers and random copolymers with phenyl, amino, carboxyl, and hydroxyl functional groups using reversible addition-fragmentation chain transfer(RAFT)polymerization. The resulting polymers, designed with comparable molecular weights(M_(n):10–20 kDa)and narrow dispersities(PDI<1.3),mimic the diverse surface chemistry of amyloid-like proteins, enabling systematic investigation of their adhesive properties. The interfacial adhesion forces of different polymer films were quantified using atomic force microscopy(AFM)with a colloidal probe.Remarkably copolymers with multiple functional groups demonstrated significantly enhanced adhesion compared to homopolymers,a trend corroborated by macroscopic shear strength and stability tests. These results highlight that the synergistic effects of multiple functional groups are crucial for achieving universal interfacial adhesion of macromolecules, offering insights into protein adhesion mechanisms, and guiding polymer-based interfacial modifications. 展开更多

Functional traits are characteristics associated with the growth, reproduction, and survival of individuals.Studying them helps us understand how species traits drive ecosystem functioning. Thus,we evaluated the differences in traits and functional diversity between forest edges and interiors, and how the inclusion of intraspecific trait variation affects the assessment of functional diversity in these habitats. We sampled 10 representative forest patches, and,in each patch,we established five plots on the edge and five inside the forest, collecting leaf functional traits, allometric and wood density for all species. We assessed functional diversity using functional richness(FRic),divergence(FDiv),and dispersion(FDis). To assess the impact of incorporating intraspecific variation when comparing trait values and functional diversity indices,we established two scenarios:one that excludes intraspecific variation and another that includes it.We found that the edge and interior harbor individuals with distinct functional traits that alleviate the inherent stress of each habitat. The edge was also found to be more selective in terms of the range of functional traits, resulting in lower functional diversity. Our findings demonstrated that habitats play an important role in intraspecific trait variation(ITV)and that statistically significant differences between habitats,in relation to traits and functional diversity, were better observed with the inclusion of intraspecific variation. Our study highlights the potential of using natural forest patches to understand the edge effect, regardless of habitat loss.Additionally,we emphasize the importance of incorporating ITV into functional diversity studies, especially those on a smaller scale that incorporate quantitative variables,to better understand and predict ecological patterns. 展开更多

A sparsely introduced basal intrinsic 2-type stacking fault(I_(2)-SF)with a dense segregation of clusters(cluster-arranged layer;CAL)inα-Mg exerts a sufficient strengthening effect with a reduced content of additive elements. Moreover, the dynamic nucleation and growth of CALs during deformation largely improves the creep resistance. This paper analyzes the cosegregation behaviors of yttrium(Y)and zinc(Zn)atoms at an I_(2)-SF in bulk and at basal edge dislocations using density functional theory calculations. We also study the modification of the generalized stacking-fault energy(GSFE)curves associated with the cosegregation. The segregation energies of Y and Zn atoms in the I_(2)-SF are relatively small during the initial segregation of a cluster, but increases stepwise as the cluster grows. After introducing Y and Zn atoms in the I_(2)-SF in an energetically stable order,we obtain an L1_(2)-type cluster resembling that reported in the literature.Small structural changes driven by vacancy diffusion produce an exact L1_(2)-type cluster.Meanwhile, the core of the Shockley partial dislocation generates sufficient segregation energy for cluster nucleation.Migration of the Shockley partial dislocation and expansion of the I_(2)-SF part are observed at a specific cluster size. The migration is triggered by a large modification of the GSFE curve and destabilization of the hexagonal close-packed stacking(hcp)by the segregated atoms. At this point, the cluster has reached sufficient size and continues to follow the growth in the I_(2)-SF part.According to our findings, the CAL at elevated temperature is formed through repeated synchronized behavior of cluster nucleation at the Shockley partial dislocation, dislocation migration triggered by the destabilized hcp stacking, and following of cluster growth in the I_(2)-SF part of the dislocation. 展开更多
