Despite broad consensus on the importance of enterprise digital transformation,significant discrepancies persist regarding its actual effects.This divergence stems primarily from two key measurement challenges:(1)a la...Despite broad consensus on the importance of enterprise digital transformation,significant discrepancies persist regarding its actual effects.This divergence stems primarily from two key measurement challenges:(1)a lack of clear and consistent definitions of enterprise digital transformation,and(2)a lack of rigorous and accurate measurement methodologies.These shortcomings lead to research findings that are incomparable,difficult to replicate,and often conflicting.To effectively address the aforementioned challenges,this paper employs machine learning and large language models(LLMs)to construct a novel set of indicators for enterprise digital transformation.The work begins by manually annotating sentences from annual reports of listed companies in China from 2006 to 2020.These labeled sentences are then used to train and fine-tune several machine learning models,including LLMs.The ERNIE model,demonstrating the best classification performance among the models tested,is selected as the sentence classifier to predict sentence labels across the full text of the annual reports,ultimately constructing the enterprise digital transformation metrics.Both theoretical analysis and multiple data cross-validations demonstrate that the metrics developed in this paper are more accurate than existing approaches.Based on these metrics,the paper empirically examines the impact of enterprise digital transformation on financial performance.Our findings reveal three key points:(1)enterprise digital transformation significantly enhances financial performance,with big data,AI,mobile internet,cloud computing,and the Internet of Things(IoT)all playing a significant role;however,blockchain technology does not show a significant effect;(2)the significant positive effect of digital transformation on financial performance is primarily observed in firms with weaker initial financial performance;and(3)enterprise digital transformation improves financial performance mainly through enhancing efficiency and reducing costs.This research has practical implications for promoting enterprise digital transformation and fostering high-quality economic development.展开更多

Digital transformation,as a recent trend in socioeconomic development,is considered as a critical pathway for urban carbon reduction because of its potential to increase productivity and energy efficiency.However,few ...Digital transformation,as a recent trend in socioeconomic development,is considered as a critical pathway for urban carbon reduction because of its potential to increase productivity and energy efficiency.However,few studies have explored the relationship between urban digitalization and carbon emissions(CE).Therefore,this study systematically analyzed the spatiotemporal distribution and interaction mechanism between digitalization and CE in the Yangtze River Delta(YRD)urban agglomerations of China during 2006-2020 based on a multidimensional indicator system,including digitalization industry level,digitalization application level,and urban green digitalization willingness.The findings revealed that both digitalization and CE in the YRD exhibit a significant and synchronously evolving“core-periphery”spatial pattern.Core cities generated substantial positive spillover effect on periphery cities through technology diffusion and policy demonstration,advancing both regional digitalization and the collaborative governance of CE.However,digitalization had dual impact on CE.On the one hand,it promoted the reduction of CE by enhancing energy efficiency,optimizing industrial structures,and promoting the application of green technologies.On the other hand,the expansion of digital infrastructure introduced a potential risk of increased energy consumption.Therefore,targeted policy recommendations are proposed to facilitate the coordination of environmental sustainability and digitalization in the YRD.This study provides empirical support and policy insights for advancing the coordinated development of regional digital transformation and green low-carbon initiatives.展开更多

Background:Telehealth has emerged as a powerful tool for managing chronic diseases and mental health conditions,offering increased access to care and improved patient outcomes.However,inequities in digital connectivit...Background:Telehealth has emerged as a powerful tool for managing chronic diseases and mental health conditions,offering increased access to care and improved patient outcomes.However,inequities in digital connectivity and technological resources have created significant disparities in access to these potentially life-changing services,disproportionately impacting marginalized and minoritized communities across the globe.Methods:Data on 473,716 telehealth encounters occurring between January 1,2022,and June 30,2023 were retrieved from the electronic health records(EHR)system used by University Hospitals.These encounters were classified into three groups:attended,canceled,and no-show.Relative risk was calculated based on age,sex,and race,and a multivariate linear regression was performed with age,sex,and race as inputs,to determine their effect on the encounter outcome.Results:Our analysis identified significant differences in relative risk between demographic groups.Patients 20-39 years of age had a high relative risk of cancellation and no-show,and Black patients demonstrated the highest relative risk for cancellation and no-show.The regression analysis illustrated a statistically significant link between no-shows and patients with a cellular plan with no other internet subscription(p<0.001),smartphone ownership(p<0.001),and not having a computer(p<0.05).Conclusions:This study highlights the clinical repercussions of the digital divide,as patients relying on a mobile phone and data plan to attend telehealth visits were more likely to no-show.Current disparities in digital connectivity for historically marginalized populations heightens the risk of creating a digital underclass.There is evidence this study may be applicable in multiple countries across the world.Further research on the causes of the observed no-shows is necessary to ensure equitable delivery of digital healthcare services.展开更多

Ultrasensitive detection of nucleic acids is of great significance for precision medicine.Digital polymerase chain reaction(dPCR)is the most sensitive method but requires sophisticated and expensive instruments and a ...Ultrasensitive detection of nucleic acids is of great significance for precision medicine.Digital polymerase chain reaction(dPCR)is the most sensitive method but requires sophisticated and expensive instruments and a long reaction time.Digital PCR-free technologies,which mean the digital assay not relying on thermal cycling to amplify the signal for quantitative detection of nucleic acids at the singlemolecule level,include the digital isothermal amplification techniques(d IATs)and the digital clustered regularly interspaced short palindromic repeats(CRISPR)technologies.They combine the advantages of d PCR and IATs,which could be fast and simple,enabling absolute quantification of nucleic acids at a single-molecule level with minimum instrument,representing the next-generation molecular diagnostic technology.Herein,we systematically summarized the strategies and applications of various dIATs,including the digital loop-mediated isothermal amplification(dLAMP),the digital recombinase polymerase amplification(dRPA),the digital rolling circle amplification(dRCA),the digital nucleic acid sequencebased amplification(d NASBA)and the digital multiple displacement amplification(d MDA),and evaluated the pros and cons of each method.The emerging digital CRISPR technologies,including the detection mechanism of CRISPR and the various strategies for signal amplification,are also introduced comprehensively in this review.The current challenges as well as the future perspectives of the digital PCR-free technology were discussed.展开更多

As the most important large-scale communication infrastructure in the world today,submarine cable can profoundly reflect the global Internet communication pattern,and is of great significance for understanding the glo...As the most important large-scale communication infrastructure in the world today,submarine cable can profoundly reflect the global Internet communication pattern,and is of great significance for understanding the global digital divide.We used multi-scale and network analysis methods to depict the distribution pattern,network structure and spatio-temporal evolution of global submarine cables at the national and landing point scales,in order to analyze the current situation,challenges and main directions of global digital divide governance.Results show that:(1)spatial distribution of global submarine cables is unbalanced,the United States and Europe are the concentrated distribution areas of submarine cables and global information flow centers;(2)core connections of the global submarine cable network are only composed of a tiny minority of countries or regions or landing points,and have strong geographical proximity and clustered-type characteristic,noting that multitudinous landing points of developed countries are at the semi-periphery or even periphery of the network;(3)submarine cables can alleviate the global digital divide through the three paths of infrastructure universalization,digital ecosystem reconstruction and economic empowerment,and the global digital divide governance still faces the dilemma of the differences in digital strategy development and the lack of a governance system.However,due to the increasingly important position of cities in developing countries in the international communication pattern,the global digital divide problem is being alleviated.展开更多

文摘Background:Telehealth has emerged as a powerful tool for managing chronic diseases and mental health conditions,offering increased access to care and improved patient outcomes.However,inequities in digital connectivity and technological resources have created significant disparities in access to these potentially life-changing services,disproportionately impacting marginalized and minoritized communities across the globe.Methods:Data on 473,716 telehealth encounters occurring between January 1,2022,and June 30,2023 were retrieved from the electronic health records(EHR)system used by University Hospitals.These encounters were classified into three groups:attended,canceled,and no-show.Relative risk was calculated based on age,sex,and race,and a multivariate linear regression was performed with age,sex,and race as inputs,to determine their effect on the encounter outcome.Results:Our analysis identified significant differences in relative risk between demographic groups.Patients 20-39 years of age had a high relative risk of cancellation and no-show,and Black patients demonstrated the highest relative risk for cancellation and no-show.The regression analysis illustrated a statistically significant link between no-shows and patients with a cellular plan with no other internet subscription(p<0.001),smartphone ownership(p<0.001),and not having a computer(p<0.05).Conclusions:This study highlights the clinical repercussions of the digital divide,as patients relying on a mobile phone and data plan to attend telehealth visits were more likely to no-show.Current disparities in digital connectivity for historically marginalized populations heightens the risk of creating a digital underclass.There is evidence this study may be applicable in multiple countries across the world.Further research on the causes of the observed no-shows is necessary to ensure equitable delivery of digital healthcare services.

文摘Ultrasensitive detection of nucleic acids is of great significance for precision medicine.Digital polymerase chain reaction(dPCR)is the most sensitive method but requires sophisticated and expensive instruments and a long reaction time.Digital PCR-free technologies,which mean the digital assay not relying on thermal cycling to amplify the signal for quantitative detection of nucleic acids at the singlemolecule level,include the digital isothermal amplification techniques(d IATs)and the digital clustered regularly interspaced short palindromic repeats(CRISPR)technologies.They combine the advantages of d PCR and IATs,which could be fast and simple,enabling absolute quantification of nucleic acids at a single-molecule level with minimum instrument,representing the next-generation molecular diagnostic technology.Herein,we systematically summarized the strategies and applications of various dIATs,including the digital loop-mediated isothermal amplification(dLAMP),the digital recombinase polymerase amplification(dRPA),the digital rolling circle amplification(dRCA),the digital nucleic acid sequencebased amplification(d NASBA)and the digital multiple displacement amplification(d MDA),and evaluated the pros and cons of each method.The emerging digital CRISPR technologies,including the detection mechanism of CRISPR and the various strategies for signal amplification,are also introduced comprehensively in this review.The current challenges as well as the future perspectives of the digital PCR-free technology were discussed.

文摘To the Editor:As a student actively involved in advocacy for heart disease prevention,I was particularly intrigued by the policymaking implications of digital interventions in the article "Digital components and interaction types in counseling interventions for childhood and adolescent obesity:A systematic review" [1].Through my work as the Founder and President of the nonprofit Guardians of Heart,I have developed and promoted early educational programs,digital tools,and community outreach initiatives designed to instill heart-healthy habits in youth,intending to mitigate risk factors such as obesity that significantly contribute to cardiovascular disease later in life.

文摘As the most important large-scale communication infrastructure in the world today,submarine cable can profoundly reflect the global Internet communication pattern,and is of great significance for understanding the global digital divide.We used multi-scale and network analysis methods to depict the distribution pattern,network structure and spatio-temporal evolution of global submarine cables at the national and landing point scales,in order to analyze the current situation,challenges and main directions of global digital divide governance.Results show that:(1)spatial distribution of global submarine cables is unbalanced,the United States and Europe are the concentrated distribution areas of submarine cables and global information flow centers;(2)core connections of the global submarine cable network are only composed of a tiny minority of countries or regions or landing points,and have strong geographical proximity and clustered-type characteristic,noting that multitudinous landing points of developed countries are at the semi-periphery or even periphery of the network;(3)submarine cables can alleviate the global digital divide through the three paths of infrastructure universalization,digital ecosystem reconstruction and economic empowerment,and the global digital divide governance still faces the dilemma of the differences in digital strategy development and the lack of a governance system.However,due to the increasingly important position of cities in developing countries in the international communication pattern,the global digital divide problem is being alleviated.
