Back-arc basins are key sites for oceanic lithosphere formation and consumption at convergent plate boundaries,and their formation and subduction processes can be highly variable.The tectonic setting and evolution of ...Back-arc basins are key sites for oceanic lithosphere formation and consumption at convergent plate boundaries,and their formation and subduction processes can be highly variable.The tectonic setting and evolution of the Meso-Tethys Shiquanhe-Jiali ophiolite sub-belt(SJO sub-belt)within BangongNujiang Suture Zone(BNSZ),central xizang,are disputed for the complex rock composition and ages.In this paper,we present geochronology,geochemistry and field observations on the Shiquanhe ophiolite,providing a representative ophiolite example in the western end of SJO.Based on investigation of the petrogenesis and tectonic setting of different rock types,combined with the U-Pb dating,we propose a twostage subduction model for explaining the tectonic evolution of SJO as well as the wither away of a backarc basin.Geochemical and geochronological data indicate that the ca.183 Ma LAN(north of Lameila)gabbros formed in the forearc setting and represent the early-stage subduction of the Bangong MesoTethys.This subduction induced the back-arc spreading recorded in the ca.170 Ma gabbros and lower pillow basalts of PL-SDN(Pagelizanong-Shiquanhe Dam Nan)ophiolitic fragments in the Shiquanhe ophiolite.The basaltic lavas overlying the lower basalts,represented by the ca.168–164 Ma diabasic and boninite dikes have forearc characteristics,and they represent the back-arc basin subduction initiation at a late stage.This work thus recovered the multiple tectonic evolution of SJO sub-belt and emphasise the importance of the back-arc basin subduction in the evolution of ancient oceans.展开更多
The Bipindi iron ore district is located in the central section of the Nyong Complex at the northwestern margin of the Congo Craton in Southwest Cameroon.This iron district contains numerous iron mineralization hosted...The Bipindi iron ore district is located in the central section of the Nyong Complex at the northwestern margin of the Congo Craton in Southwest Cameroon.This iron district contains numerous iron mineralization hosted by the Mewongo,Bibole,Kouambo,and Zambi banded iron formations(BIFs).These BIFs contain magnetite as the main iron ore mineral associated with pyrite,and gangue minerals are quartz with minor chlorite and amphibole.The origin of iron ore from these BIFs was investigated using a combination of in-situ magnetite and whole-rock chemistry.The studied BIF ore samples have a narrow range of TFe between 30.90 wt.%and 43.20 wt.%,indicating a low-grade ore.The geochemical signatures of magnetite such as low contents of base metals(e.g.,Cu,Co,V,and Zn)and low Co/Zn ratios<0.85 indicate a hydrothermal origin.Combined with the geochemical features of these BIFs,e.g.,high Fe/Ti and Fe/Al ratios(mean>600 and>75,respectively),we suggest that magnetite was derived from a mixture of seawater and~0.1%low-temperature hydrothermal fluids in an oxidizing environment.Collectively,low-temperature hydrothermal and later metamorphic fluids were necessary for the transformation of the protolith Nyong Complex BIFs to iron ore.展开更多
Identifying deformational mechanisms and associated structures at various scales,ranging from regional-scale structures to microscopic fabric,is crucial for the assessment of tectonic development.Thirty-three samples ...Identifying deformational mechanisms and associated structures at various scales,ranging from regional-scale structures to microscopic fabric,is crucial for the assessment of tectonic development.Thirty-three samples were taken from the Qazzaz metamorphic core complex to estimate the finite strain for felsic and mafic minerals.These samples included gneisses rocks,monzogranite,and metavolcano-sedimentary rocks for both the Thalbah and Bayda groups.Using the Rf/j and Fry methods,the axial ratios(XZ)range about 2.20 to 7.10 and 1.90 to 9.10,respectively.For various rock units,the strain measurements show moderate to highly deformation.Most of the observed samples show shallow WNW dipping along a N to WNW trend of finite strain(X).The short axes(Z)based to be subvertical foliation related with a subhorizontal foliation.The results demonstrate that contacts generated at semi-brittle to ductile deformation and that the strain of magnitude has the same value for different lithologic units.It concluded that nappe generation in orogens results from pure shear deformation.展开更多
