The data obtained was analyzed by using the coding system and showed that writing haiku in the target language was a challenging but valuable task for L2 learning among the EFL students. Especially haiku composition allowed them to develop their L2 linguistic awareness展开更多

The present paper intends to study the relationship between foreign language learning proficiency and cognitive styles from the perspectives of psychology, psycholinguistics, and second language acquisition. Through the analysis, the author has arrived at a conclusion that learners with different cognitive styles adopt quite different strategies in learning a foreign language. The best-matched methods fitting for different cognitive styles may help learners improve their learning proficiency. Therefore, in order to improve teaching proficiency, foreign language teachers should keep a match between learners' cognitive styles and teaching methodologies.展开更多

To this end 146 Iranian EFL learners studying English at different levels of language proficiency, participated in this study. O'Brien's (1990) learning channel preference checklist was given to students to determine their sensory preferences In addition, a Speaking Strategy questionnaire (an adaptation of strategy inventory for language learning (SILL), focusing on strategies used at the time of Speaking) was also given to the students in another session. The data were analyzed using multivariate ANOVA (MANOVA) in order to probe the relationship between Iranian EFL Learners' Learning Style Sensory Preferences and their speaking strategy use across proficiency. Based on the results, it can be claimed that there was a weak to moderate interaction between the proficiency levels and preference of speaking strategies on the learning styles of the Iranian EFL learners.展开更多

As to us English teachers in China, how to use or avoid the Chinese transfer in students' English learning is an issue we need to further explore. The paper, based on the theory of SLA (second language acquisition) and language transfer, discusses this phenomenon, analyzes the factors that cause the transfer, and puts forward some suggestions to deal with the influence of transfer in teaching English as a foreign language Contrastive analysis, with examples, is employed to find the similarities and difficulties in students' learning Some of the difficulties can be predicted and positive transfer indeed plays a positive role in language acquisition.展开更多

Foreign language study is not only the process of learning a language but also the process of taking the language as a means of information transmission to comprehend culture. With the implementation of the New Curriculum Standard (2017) in senior English, the notions of cultural awareness and culture instruction are being accepted and carried out in EFL (English as Foreign Language) classroom by English teachers. This paper tries to analyze the relationship between language and culture, the contents and goals in teaching foreign language and culture, the significance of teaching culture in foreign language education. This paper concludes with recommendations for improving culture teaching: Learning a foreign language is inseparable from learning its culture; The knowledge of culture differences may help students to make less pragmatic errors and become proficient in cross-cultural communication; Great efforts should also be paid to the development of the student’s cross-cultural awareness, and then the quality of English teaching could be really improved.展开更多
