These complications are still observed in our context despite the advent of antibiotics. The aim of our study was to describe the clinical presentation and management of patients admitted to our institution for complications of cervicofacial cellulitis. Patients and Methods: It came from a retrospective study in the ORL service, a department of Yalgado Ouédraogo Hospital of Ouagadougou, between January 2005 and December 2014, during which all patients with cervicofacial cellulitis complications were identified. Results: We collected over 10 years, 69 cases of complicated cellulitis, a frequency of 54.3% of cervicofacial cellulitis and 2.3% of all hospitalizations. The group included 33% women and 67% men to 29 years of average age. The non-steroidal anti-inflammatory isolated was the main factor contributing 59.4%. The front door was mainly dental 43.5% and pharyngeal 36.2%. The most frequent complications were mediastinitis thoracic dissemination 24.6%, sepsis 21.7% and spontaneous fistula 20.3% with orostome or pharyngostome. Medico-surgical treatment was associated with a reanimation in most cases. The outcome was favorable in 79.7% of cases. Mortality was 17.4%. Conclusion: The complications of cervicofacial cellulitis are frequent and often life-threatening. Their management is done in a multidisciplinary framework. The prevention and early treatment remain the pledge of their control.展开更多

They can be immediately life-threatening. The aim of this study was to report the epidemiological and clinical features that characterize this affection. Material and method: We retrospectively reviewed the clinical records of patients admitted to foreign bodies of the lower airways in the Otorhinolaryngology (ORL) department of the University Hospital-Yalgado Ouedraogo (UH-YO) from 2008 to 2012. Results: Seventeen (17) foreign body records were compiled on a group of 76 foreign bodies of the lower airways. The average age was 5 years. Patients ranged in age from 6 months to 35 years with a sex ratio of 1.4. The call signs were the penetration syndrome that was found in 4 cases (23.5%), laryngeal dyspnea was found in 8 cases (47.05%) with stage II to III and dysphonia 10 cases (58.8%). The extraction was done endoscopically in all patients, and a tracheostomy was made in 2 cases (11.7%). A death was noted in 1 case (5.9%). Conclusion: The laryngeal foreign bodies are common and maintain their classical gravity. It should be thought about in front of any dyspnea associated with dysphonia in children previously healthy. The prevention is the key weapon in our context.展开更多

Methods: We carried out a cross-sectional study extending from the period of 2009 to 2013 in the Internal Medicine department of the “G” Point University Hospital in Bamako. Included were all records of hospitalized patients with a central temperature greater than 37°C in the morning and 37°C in the evening, resting for 15 minutes, fasting for more than 2 hours, and absence of antipyretic treatment. We include all the patients of the study period with fever greater than 37.5°C in the morning and 37.8°C in the evening, resting for 15 minutes, fasting for more than 2 hours, and absence of antipyretic treatment, which have more than 21 days and measured on several occasions. The data were collected on a survey sheet. Data entry and analysis was done on SPSS software. Results: We recorded 243 fever cases out of 2155 hospitalizations, a prevalence rate of 11.2%. There were 128 men and 115 women with an average age of 43 years (range, 15 to 84 years), a modal class of 37 to 47 years, and a sex ratio of 1.11. The infectious etiologies accounted for 81% followed by neoplastic causes 09.6% and inflammatory 01.2% of cases. HIV infection was found in 26.4% of patients, malaria 13.5% and urinary tract infections 10.2%). Gram negative bacilli 88% consisted mainly of Escherichia coli (56%) and Klebsiella pneumoniae (20%).展开更多

The germs in question are mostly viruses and bacteria. Objectives: The objective of this work was to study the epidemiological and therapeutic profile of tonsillitis and their complications in the ENT Department and Head and Neck Surgery of the Mother-Child University Hospital in Luxembourg. Patients and Methods: This is a prospective study over a 12-month period from January 2018 to December 2018, including all patients who presented with tonsillitis and/or their complications. Results: Three hundred and fifteen (315) patients were collected during this period. The average age in our study was 14.25 years with extremes ranging from 2 years to 61 years. The sex ratio was 0.65 in favor of the female sex. During this period we recorded 80.95% of cases of uncomplicated tonsillitis including 60.50% for acute tonsillitis, 24.5% for chronic tonsillitis 5% for adenoid tonsillitis and 19.05% for complications. Complications included peritonsillar phlegmon 42.22%, heart disease 33.33%, cervical cellulitis 8.89%, adeno-phlegmon 6.67%, para-pharyngeal abscess 4.44%, and sepsis 4.44%. The exclusive medical treatment was performed in 44.31%. Surgical treatment (drainage incision and tonsillectomy) was performed in 55.69%. Conclusion: Tonsillitis and its complications represent an important pathology in ENT. Feynophagy febrile is the pair-origin symptom that can lead to the diagnosis. The prevention of complications is the guarantor of the reduction of its morbidity. We recommend that in the absence of RDT (Rapid Diagnostic Test), it is necessary to systematize antibiotic therapy to prevent serious complications.展开更多
