Stalk height, stalk diameter, stalk number per stool and brix...Sugarcane family evaluation on 108 hybridized combinations generated during 2013-2014 was conducted by measuring the main traits of plant and ratoon crops. Stalk height, stalk diameter, stalk number per stool and brix were investigated in both plant cane and ratoon cane, while stalk weight per stool and brix weight per stool were measured only in plant cane. Genetic variation and genetic parameters of all traits were analyzed, and the families were evaluated based on comprehensive index method. The results showed that the stalk height of both plant and ratoon, stalk diameter of both plant and ratoon, stalk number per stool of plant, brix of both plant and ratoon, stalk weight per stool and brix weight per stool were sig- nificantly different among the families. Stalk height, stalk diameter, stalk number per stool of plant crop showed higher level of broad-sense heritability, genetic variation coefficient and relative genetic advance than those in ratoon crop. But there were no significant differences in broad-sense heritability, genetic variation coefficient and relative genetic advance of brix between plant and ratoon crops. Analysis of phenotypic and genotypic correlation showed that stalk weight per stool was significantly correlated with brix weight per stool, Fifteen elite families including Zhanzhe 74-141× CP72-1210, Guitang 05-3081×Yuetang 91-976, Yunzhe 02-588×ROC22, Funong 39× Guitang 03-1229, Guitang 02-901×Guitang 03-2357, Guitang 05-2743×Guitang 03- 1229, Guitang 92-66×ROC22, Dezhe 93-88×ROC22, Guitang 05-3445×Guitang 03- 2309, Yuetang 00-319×CP72-1210, Guitang 03-3089×ROC22, Yuetang 91-976×CP84- 1198, Yuefu 90-95 ×CP72-1210, Yunzhe 99-601×Guitang 00-122, Yuetang 00-236× ROC22 were selected based on comprehensive index method, and stalk weight per stool and brix weight per stool showed greater genetic gain. The families selected based on comprehensive index were not completely the same as the families selected by brix weight per stool, the rank correlation coefficient of the families selected based on comprehensive index and brix weight per stool was 0.748 (P〈0.01).展开更多

It was found that the sugarcane growing area in Guangxi in 2013 declined compared with that in 2012; the rate of emergence remained the same as previous year,and as for the plant number of plant crop and ratoon crop per hectare,there was a decline of 4000 and 2000 seedlings respectively compared with the figure in 2012; borer damage rate declined on the whole while the incidence of sugarcane smut increased.Due to the growth in the cost of planting,the growers were less enthusiastic for management. According to the findings,the fertilization and sugarcane field management should be accelerated; borer prevention work was also required,so as to reduce borer damage and dieback rate;the planting structure of varieties had to be adjusted and the cultivated area of " Guitang" as a fine sugarcane variety should also be enlarged;meanwhile other active measures needed to be taken to prevent and control the outburst of pest attack in local areas.展开更多

The results show that the overall situation of sugarcane seedlings in Guangxi in 2016 became slightly worse than that in 2015,but there were enough good sugarcane seedlings in 2016. The dead heart rate of sugarcane decreased in most sugarcane regions from 2015 to 2016,that is,the comprehensive control of borers gave initial results; the smut infection rate of sugarcane rose from 2015 to 2016 and tended to increase. The situation of decrease in the planting area of sugarcane in three consecutive years was controlled,and the planting area of sugarcane increased slightly from 2015 to 2016. Due to the construction of ' double high' bases,the breed variety of sugarcane in Guangxi was improved further in 2016. To evaluate main traits of sugarcane germplasm resources with high sucrose content and provide theoretical foundation for parental selection of sugarcane breeding,taking ROC22 as the control,the one-year plant and rat...To evaluate main traits of sugarcane germplasm resources with high sucrose content and provide theoretical foundation for parental selection of sugarcane breeding,taking ROC22 as the control,the one-year plant and ratoon were planted in the field experiment with the collected 42 samples,and evaluation and survey were carried out on the agronomic traits.The results indicated that the effective stems of 35strains including GT07-104,GT08-743,and GT04-1029 were higher than that of ROC22,reaching the significant difference and reached extremely significant difference with GT08-1533.The average Brix of new ratoon of GT02-901,GT07-110 and GT09-53 was the highest in October,close to 21.89%,21.40%and 21.24%respectively,which was 17.3%higher than that of the control R22.The Brix weight of 39 samples including GT04-1001,GT08-898 and GT04-1029 was higher than that of the control group,but the Brix weight of GT02-901,GT08-221,GT07-548 and GT02-237 was lower.In conclusion,in 42 sugarcane germplasm samples with high sucrose,GT07-104,GT04-1029,GT04-1001,GT07-110,GT07-135,GT08-743 and GT07-5A have more effective stems,stronger ratoon ability,and excellent comprehensive earlymaturing traits.In view of characteristics of these samples,these germplasm resources can be used as parental crossing and combination ratio,to select target sugarcane varieties.展开更多

[Methods] On the basis of mechanized ...[Objectives] This study was conducted to explore the effect of machine harvesting on ratooning ability of Guitang 47, and to provide basis for mechanized production of Guitang 47. [Methods] On the basis of mechanized planting and management of newly planted sugarcane Guitang 47, a comparative test of machine harvesting and manual harvesting was conducted, during which the plant generation rate, sugarcane yield, sucrose content and related agronomic traits of ratoon cane were continuously investigated in two years after machine harvesting of the newly planted sugarcane. [Results] There were no significant differences in the plant generation rate, plant height, stalk diameter, millable cane, sugarcane yield and sucrose content from manual harvesting of Guitang 47 in the first and second years after machine harvesting. In the second year after machine harvesting, the yields of ratoon cane and the sugar content reached 101.70 and 15.32 t/hm^2, respectively, which were equivalent to those of manual harvesting. [Conclusions] Guitang 47 has strong ratooning ability and lodging resistance and strong resistance to rolling and crushing, and is adaptive to full mechanized production. Demand for sugar is projected to grow in China for the foreseeable future.However,sugarcane production is unlikely to increase due to increasing production cost and decreasing profit margin.The persisting sugarcane yi...Demand for sugar is projected to grow in China for the foreseeable future.However,sugarcane production is unlikely to increase due to increasing production cost and decreasing profit margin.The persisting sugarcane yield plateau and the current cropping system with fertilizer overuse,soil acidification and pests and diseases remain the major productivity constraints.Sugarcane agriculture supports the livelihood of about 28 million farmers in South China;hence,sustaining it is a socioeconomic imperative.More compellingly,to meet the ever-increasing Chinese market demand,annual sugar production must be increased from the current 10 Mt to 16 Mt by 2030 of which 80% to 90% comes from sugarcane.Therefore,increasing sugar yield and crop productivity in an environmentally sustainable way must be a priority.This review examines the current Chinese sugarcane production system and discuss options for its transition to a green,sustainable cropping system,which is vital for the long-term viability of the industry.This analysis shows that reducing chemical inputs,preventing soil degradation,improving soil health,managing water deficit,provision of clean planting material,and consolidation of small farm holdings are critical requirements to transform the current farming practices into an economically and environmentally sustainable sugarcane cropping system.展开更多
