Medicinal and dietary plants provide numerous nutritional and functional compounds and also have various potential health benefits to humanity.The specific and efficient techniques for accurate identification of nutritional compounds and functional metabolites is crucial for the development of functional foods from medicinal and dietary plants.Nuclear magnetic resonance(NMR)and mass spectrometry(MS)are indispensable and essential technologies that provide an unsurpassed wealth of untargeted identification,quantitative and qualitative analysis,and structural information in the study of food and plant products.In the past decade,the rapid development of modern analytical technology has led to the emergence of new approaches and strategies for natural products discovery.Especially the application of novel NMRand MS-based identification and dereplication strategies aided by artificial intelligence and machine learning algorithms have brought about a significant shift in the natural products discovery process.These developments and changes in the natural products filed have given us insights into how to accurately target and mining nutritional,functional,and bioactive compounds.Thus,we have summarized recent research on novel NMR and MS based strategies and methods focusing on functional compounds,accurate identification and efficient discovery mainly in medicinal and dietary plants.This review could provide a comprehensive perspective for a better understanding of novel strategies and methods based on NMR and MS technologies,which could provide valuable insights and ideas for functional compounds mining. 展开更多

Alzheimer’s disease(AD),the major form of neurodegenerative diseases that can severely impede normal cognitive function,makes it one of the most common fatal diseases.There are currently over 50 million AD patients w... Alzheimer’s disease(AD),the major form of neurodegenerative diseases that can severely impede normal cognitive function,makes it one of the most common fatal diseases.There are currently over 50 million AD patients worldwide.The neuropathology of AD is perplexing and there is a scarcity of disease-modifying treatments.Currently,early diagnosis of AD has been made possible with the discovery of biological markers associated with pathology,providing strong support for the improvement of the disease status.The search for inhibitors of AD markers from dietary supplements(DSs)has become a major hot topic.Especially with the widespread use of DSs,DSs containing polyphenols,alkaloids,terpenes,polysaccharides and other bioactive components can prevent AD by reducing Aβdeposition,inhibiting tau protein hyperphosphorylation,reconstructing synaptic dysfunction,weakening cholinesterase activity,regulating mitochondrial oxidative stress,neuronal inflammation and apoptosis.This review summarizes the anti-AD effects of the main DSs and their bioactive constituents,as well as the potential molecular mechanisms covers from 2017 to 2023.Additionally,we discussed the opportunities and challenges faced by DSs in the process of AD prevention and treatment,aiming to further provide new perspectives for functional food development. 展开更多

Four new isoquinoline alkaloids,hypecotumines A-D(1-4),were isolated and identified from the whole herbs of Hypecoum erectum L.Their structures were determined by a combination of HRESIMS,NMR,and X-ray diffraction analysis methods.Compounds 1-4 were characterized by a terminal double bond at C-9 and their plausible biosynthetic pathway was hypothesized.Since PCSK9 plays a key role in the development of cardiovascular disease(CVD),exploration of PCSK inhibitors from natural products are beneficial for drug discovery of CVD treatment.SPR and Western blot assays showed compound 4 had PCSK9 inhibition activity with KD value of 59.9μM and thus elevated the LDLR level.Further molecular docking studies demonstrated that 4 and PCSK9 could form stable interactions via key hydrogen bonds. 展开更多

With the increasing demand for high quality food products,there is a growing interest in functional foods and nutritional supplements,and edible flowers are widely consumed due to their health benefits.Since Yunnan(china)is the“Flower Kingdom”and most of them have a variety of ethnological applications,it is essential to take advantage of the rich resources to explore the bioactive potential of edible flowers and develop various types of nutritional and functional foods to meet people’s nutritional needs.this paper presents a comprehensive review of edible flowers in Yunnan with the most ethnically distinctive and biologically active flowers as representatives.among them,flavonoids,terpenoids,phenolic acids,and coumarins are the major chemical constituents.they showed diverse pharmacological effects including antioxidant,anti-inflammatory,anti-tumor,anti-diabetic,and hypoglycemic,and the mechanisms presented the characteristics of multitarget of the active ingredients.this paper aimed to provide a sound scientific basis for the development and utilization of edible flowers in Yunnan. 展开更多
