Our previous studies found that observing the electrical response of specific facial muscles provided reasonable correlation with the prognosis of electroacupuncture treatment. Hence, we used the new method to evaluate the degree of facial nerve injury in patients with Bell's palsy in comparison with the House-Brackmann scale. The relationship between therapeutic effects and prognosis was analyzed to explore an objective method for evaluating Bell's palsy. METHODS: The facial nerve function of 68 patients with Bell's palsy was assessed with both electrical response grading and the House-Brackmann scale before treatment. Then differences in evaluation results of the two methods were compared. All enrolled patients received electroacupuncture treatment with disperse-dense wave at 1/100 Hz for 4 weeks. After treatment, correlation analysis was conducted to find the relationship between electrical response and therapeutic effects or prognosis. RESULTS: Checking consistency between electrical response grading and House-Brackmann scale: Kappa value 0.028 (P = 0.578). Correlation analysis: the two methods were correlated with the prognosis, and electrical response grading (rER = 0.789) was better than the House-Brackmann scale (rHB = 0.423). CONCLUSION: Electrical response grading is superior to the House-Brackmann scale in efficacy and reliability, and can conveniently assess the degree of facial nerve injury. The House-Brackmann scale is suitable for the patients with mild facial nerve injury, but its evaluation quality for severe facial nerve injury is poor.展开更多

The electronic properties and the structures of high-lying molecular orbitals were analyzed in detail. The results show that partial spin is transferred from the Fe atom to the porphyrin ring and some electron with the spin opposite to the unpaired electron on the Fe atom is transferred from the porphyrin ring to the Fe atom. The π and σ-type bonding between the Fe atom and the porphyin ring cause the transfer. The fluorination enhances the electron transfer and the chemical stability of the complex. The high stability is important for the complex possessing high catalytic activity. The catalysis mechanism of oxygen molecule activation on the complex surface is also discussed based on the symmetry of the molecular orbitals.展开更多

METHODS The anti-hepatocellular carcinoma activity of the Bax gene transferred to the human hepatocellular carcinoma QGY7703 cell line was examined. In addition the Bax gene was transferred in vivo in mice via the caudal vein or hepatic artery to investigate the differences in target organ and non-target organ transfection. RESULTS 1)The Bax gene mediated by a binary adenoviral vector system induced apoptosis in the human hepatic carcinoma QFY7703 cell line. The cell apoptotic rate in the experimental group (Bax) was 50.2±6.9% but only 32.1 ± 9.7% in the Ad/CMV-p53 group, showing that the Bax-apoptotic rate was significantly higher than the control group. 2) LacZ expression was higher in the target organ (liver) when given through the hepatic artery than through the tail vein. In contrast, LacZ expression in the nontarget organs was higher if given through the tail vein compared to the hepatic artery. CONCLUSION Superselective hepatic artery delivery with Bax gene therapy is safe, specific, effective and has low toxicity. This study provided the basis for Bax-gene therapy via the hepatic artery in vivo.展开更多
