Objective:The objective of the study is to investigate the psychological status of nursing staff both working on nonfront line and on the front line during the epidemic period of COVID‑19 and to analyze the influencing factors related to mental health state,as well as to provide targeted psychological intervening measures for nursing staff in the face of this major public health event. Methods:We used data from January 28,2019,to February 08,2020,on the number of cases who worked in the 3A‑level hospital as nonfront‑line nurses(n=29,54%)and those who worked in Wuhan infectious hospital as the front‑line supporters(n=25,46%)came from the 3A‑level hospital. The participants completed the symptom checklist 90,and the researchers recorded data on demographics, psychological status, and the influencing factors. Results:In our baseline scenario,we estimated that the total symptom index was 1.676±0.654 for nurses who worked on the front line,1.260±0.304 for those who worked as the front‑line reserve nurses, and was 1.486±0.647 for those who worked as the nonfront‑line nurses. The results of correlation analysis show that the factors related to the psychological status of nurses include age, professional title, marital status, and family support;different factors have different effects on psychological status. Conclusion:In the face of major public health emergencies, both front‑line nursing staff and nonfront‑line staff are confronted with different degrees of psychological stress,so effective psychological support should be given to improve the working efficiency and enthusiasm of nurses. 展开更多

This study is aimed to evaluate the effect of lollipop sucking on the recovery of gastrointestinal function in children after congenital choledochal cyst excision.58 children who had undergone congenital choledochal cyst excision were randomly divided into two groups:the controlled group and the experimental group.Children in the experimental group were allowed to suck on strawberry lollipops for 20e30 min once every four hours beginning six hours after the operation. The recovery time of bowel sounds and anal defecation was recorded and compared between experimental and control groups.Compared with the controlled group the recovery times of bowel sounds(41.75±7.38 h vs.51.43±5.02;p<0.001)and anal defecation(64.32±14.69 h vs.79.17±14.91 h;p<0.001)were significantly shorter in the experimental group. Results of the present study indicate that Sucking of lollipops by children after choledochal cyst excision facilitates the recovery of bowel movement and relieves postoperative abdominal distension. 展开更多

Background: The Wenchuan earthquake in China caused shock and grief worldwide. Sudden bereavement caused by the earthquake led to physical disorders as well as psychological disturbances in the bereaved individuals. The bereaved had a high risk for complicated grief (CG), which may have led to significant distress and impairment in their health. However, there was few available studies on CG among disaster-bereaved individuals in China after the disaster. The aim of this study was to identify factors (demographic characteristics and disaster-related variables) associated with symptoms of CG among the bereaved 18 months after the Wenchuan earthquake. Methods: This study was conducted with a cross-sectional design and a convenience sample of 271 bereaved individuals from three of the hardest hit areas. Data were collected by questionnaires and the instruments used in the study were: General questionnaire and Inventory of CG (ICG). Multivariate linear regression analysis was used to identify factors associated with symptoms of CG. Results: The mean score on ICG was 52.77 (standard deviation: 10.00). Being female and loss of a child were related to higher level of CG while having another child after the disaster and receiving psychological counseling experience were associated with lower level of CG. Forty-nine percent of the variance of CG was explained by these identified factors. Conclusions: Eighteen months after the Wenchuan earthquake, the symptoms of CG among the bereaved were higher than the previous studies with bereaved individuals. This study uncovers a vulnerable population of the bereaved at high risk for CG. Early assessments, targeted interventions, and policy support tailored for the disaster-bereaved individuals are necessary to identify and alleviate symptoms of CG and to improve their well-being. 展开更多
