Visual outcomes and corneal biomechanical evaluation between LASIK and LASIK combined with accelerated corneal crosslinking

AIM:To assess the visual outcomes and corneal biomechanical properties of myopia patients between laser in situ keratomileusis(LASIK)and LASIK combined with accelerated corneal crosslinking(LASIK Xtra).METHODS:This prospective study analyzed 52 consecutive myopia patients treated with LASIK Xtra and 45 consecutive myopia patients treated with LASIK.Only the right eyes in the two groups were analyzed.The uncorrected distance visual acuity(UDVA),keratometry values,postoperative central corneal thickness(CCT),corneal demarcation line depth,the corneal compensated intraocular pressure(IOPcc),Goldmann-correlated IOP(IOPg),corneal resistance factor(CRF)and corneal hysteresis(CH)from Ocular Response Analyzer(ORA)were analyzed.Further,the correlation between the demarcation line depth and ORA-related biomechanical parameters were analyzed.RESULTS:No significant differences in UDVA,postoperative CCT,or mean K values were found between the 2 groups at 1 to 12mo postoperative follow-up(all P>0.05).The changes of CRF was significantly lower in the LASIK Xtra group compared to the LASIK group(all P<0.05)at all the postoperative visits.The changes of CH were significantly higher in the LASIK Xtra group(all P<0.05).No significant differences were discovered regarding the changes of IOPcc and IOPg posperatively(all P>0.05).Out of 52 cases in the LASIK Xtra group,the demarcation line was present in 40 eyes(77%).The average depth of the demarcation was 220.73±42.70μm(136 to 288μm).No significant correlation was observed between the depth of the demarcation line and any of the ORA-related biomechanical parameters such as IOPcc,IOPg,CRF and CH at 12mo(all P>0.05).CONCLUSION:Both procedures demonstrate comparable outcomes in terms of visual acuity,refraction and ablation predictability.This study confirms that corneal biomechanical properties of the included patients weakened after both procedures,but the cornea after LASIK Xtra are stiffer than conventional LASIK. 展开更多

Background:Pudilan Xiaoyan Oral Liquid(PDL)is a Chinese patent medicine with notable pharmacological properties,including anti-inflammatory and antibacterial effects.Drug-resistant Pseudomonas aeruginosa infection is a common and refractory bacterial infection in clinical practice.Due to its high drug resistance,it brings great challenges to treatment.This study aimed to assess the therapeutic efficacy of PDL in a murine model of pneumonia induced by drug-resistant Pseudomonas aeruginosa.Methods:Three different doses of PDL(11 mL/kg/d,5.5 mL/kg/d,2.75 mL/kg/d)were used to observe lung tissue pathology and inflammatory cytokine levels in pneumonia mouse models induced by multidrug-resistant Pseudomonas aeruginosa(MDR-PA).Additionally,the protective efficacy of PDL against mortality in infected mice was evaluated using a death model caused by MDR-PA.Finally sub-MIC concentration of levofloxacin was used to induce drug-resistant mice pneumonia model to evaluate the role of PDL in reversing drug resistance.Experimental data are expressed as mean±standard deviation.Statistical significance was determined by one-way analysis of variance followed by Tukey’s multiple-comparisons test.Results:Treatment effect of PDL on MDR-PA pneumonia:the medium and small doses of PDL can significantly reduce the lung index of multi-drug resistant bacteria infected pneumonia model mice(P<0.05),the lung index inhibition rates for these groups were 55.09%and 58.43%,and improve the degree of lung tissue lesions of mice;The expression of serum cytokines keratinocyte chemoattractant,tumor necrosis factor-αand monocyte chemoattractant protein-1 could be decreased in the three dosage groups of PDL(P<0.01).PDL treatment not only lowered the mortality but also extended the survival duration in mice infected with MDR-PA.It was found after sub-MIC concentration of levofloxacin induced resistance of Pseudomonas aeruginosa to pneumonia in mice.Compared with the model group,the lung index of mice in high and medium PDL doses was significantly reduced(P<0.05),with inhibition rates of 32.16%and 37.73%,respectively.Conclusion:PDL demonstrates protective effects against MDR-PA infection pneumonia,notably decreasing serum inflammatory factor levels.It shows promise in mitigating antibiotic resistance and offers potential for treating pneumonia resulting from Pseudomonas aeruginosa resistance. 展开更多

目的:分析不同程度近视患者FS-LASIK术后满意度和夜间视觉症状及其相关因素。方法:回顾性研究。纳入2018-06/2019-09在我院行FS-LASIK术后3mo以上的近视患者75例150眼,根据术前等效球镜度(SE)分为高度近视组(≥-6.00组,43例86眼)和中低... 目的:分析不同程度近视患者FS-LASIK术后满意度和夜间视觉症状及其相关因素。方法:回顾性研究。纳入2018-06/2019-09在我院行FS-LASIK术后3mo以上的近视患者75例150眼,根据术前等效球镜度(SE)分为高度近视组(≥-6.00组,43例86眼)和中低度近视组(<-6.00D,32例64眼)。术后6mo,使用Sirius三维眼前节分析系统测量角膜地形图及7mm暗瞳孔直径角膜高阶像差(总高阶像差、球差、彗差、三叶草差),并填写问卷评估术后满意度及夜间视觉症状。结果:高度近视组和中低度近视组术前等效球镜度分别为-7.85±1.27、-4.57±1.01D。术后两组患者7mm暗瞳孔直径角膜总高阶像差、球差、彗差均有差异(P<0.001),三叶草差无差异(P>0.05)。高度近视组和中低度近视组术后满意度分别为95.3%和100.0%;两组中分别有18.8%、9.3%的患者认为夜间视力比术前差,51.2%、40.6%的患者出现光晕症状,41.9%、43.8%的患者出现星芒症状,18.6%、15.6%的患者出现重影症状。两组患者除夜间视力有差异(P=0.010)外,其它夜间视觉症状无差异(均P>0.05)。纳入患者术后满意度与术前散光、光学区直径大小呈正相关(均P<0.05);夜间视力与术前SE、术后角膜曲率呈正相关(均P<0.05),与术中切削深度、术后角膜总高阶像差、球差、彗差呈负相关(均P<0.05);星芒症状与术前角膜总高阶像差、彗差及术后三叶草差呈正相关(均P<0.05);重影症状与术前散光呈正相关(P<0.05)。结论:高度近视患者术后夜间视力较中低度近视患者差,主要与暗瞳孔环境下总高阶像差、球差、彗差增加有关;高度近视术后可出现与低中度近视相似程度的光晕、星芒、重影症状,但不影响术后总体满意度。 展开更多

目的:比较飞秒激光辅助的准分子激光原位角膜磨镶术(FS-LASIK)与FS-LASIK联合快速角膜胶原交联术(FS-LASIK Xtra)矫正高度近视术后早期屈光度及角膜高阶像差变化特点,评估两种术式矫正高度近视的早期效果。方法:回顾性病例对照研究。纳... 目的:比较飞秒激光辅助的准分子激光原位角膜磨镶术(FS-LASIK)与FS-LASIK联合快速角膜胶原交联术(FS-LASIK Xtra)矫正高度近视术后早期屈光度及角膜高阶像差变化特点,评估两种术式矫正高度近视的早期效果。方法:回顾性病例对照研究。纳入2019-04/2020-04在我院进行FS-LASIK Xtra及FS-LASIK的高度近视患者42例84眼,每组各21例42眼,术后随访3mo,比较两组患者术后裸眼视力(UCVA)、等效球镜(SE)、散光度及角膜高阶像差。结果:FS-LASIK Xtra组患者术后1d UCVA(LogMAR)低于FS-LASIK组(P<0.01),其余时间点两组间比较均无差异(P>0.05)。两组患者术后SE均较术前明显降低,术后3mo,FS-LASIK Xtra组有38眼(90%)、FS-LASIK组有41眼(98%)术眼SE在±1.00D以内。两组患者术后均有35眼(83%)的术眼残余散光在0.50D以内。两组术后3mo角膜总高阶像差、球差、彗差及三叶草差均较术前增大,FS-LASIK Xtra组总高阶像差及三叶草差大于FS-LASIK组(均P<0.05)。结论:FS-LASIK与FS-LASIK Xtra矫正高度近视在术后早期均具有较好的有效性和可预测性,术后早期角膜总高阶像差均增加,且行FS-LASIK Xtra增加更显著。 展开更多

In this contribution, we present an all-optical quantitative framework for bioluminescence tomography with non-contact measurement. The framework is comprised of four indispensable steps: extraction of the geometrical structures of the subject, light flux reconstruction on arbitrary surface, calibration and quantification of the surface light flux and internal bioluminescence reconstruction. In particular, the geometrical structures are retrieved using a completely optical method and captured under identical viewing conditions with the bioluminescent images. As a result, the proposed framework avoids the utilization of computed tomography or magnetic resonance imaging to provide the geometrical structures. On the basis of experimental measurements, we evaluate the performance of the proposed all-optical quantitative framework using a mouse shaped phantom. Preliminary result reveals the potential and feasibility of the proposed framework for bioluminescence tomography. 展开更多

Comparison of healing patterns of different side-cut angulations after FS-LASIK

AIM: To investigate and evaluate healing patterns around flaps made with different side-cut angulations after femtosecond laser in situ keratomileusis(FS-LASIK).METHODS: Thirty-four patients(68 eyes) received a 90° side-cut(n=34) or a 120° side-cut flaps(n=34) made with a femtosecond laser. One day, 1 wk, 1 and 3 mo postoperatively, side-cut scar was evaluated under slit-lamp photography according to a new grading system(Grade 0=transparent scar, 1=faint healing opacity, and 2=evident healing opacity). In vivo corneal confocal microscopy and anterior segment optical coherence tomography(AS-OCT) were used to observe wound-healing patterns around flap margin in the two groups. Sirius Scheimpflug Analyzer was also used to analyze higher order aberrations 3 mo after surgery.RESULTS: There were no significant differences in flap wound-healing patterns at each follow up between the two groups(P>0.05). Three months after surgery, the flap edge scar classified as Grade 0 had excellent apposition and rapid nerve regeneration. At 3 mm and 5 mm pupil diameters, there were significant differences in trefoil aberrations between the two groups(P<0.05), but no statistically significant differences were found in total higher order aberrations(HOAs), spherical aberrations or coma in any of the pupil size conditions(P>0.05).CONCLUSION: Flap edge scars classified as Grade 0 have excellent apposition and rapid nerve regeneration, and 120° side-cut angle flaps induce less trefoil aberrations after FS-LASIK. 展开更多

Objective:To study the correlation of serum APoM (Apolipoprotein M) contents with disease activity for SLE (systemic lupus erythematosus) patients.Method: A total of 80 SLE patients treated from January 2013 to March 2017 in our Rheumatology and Immunology Department were selected. The subjects were divided into activity group (44 cases) and relief group (36 cases) according to the SLEDAI scores. There were 31 cases with renal injury and 49 cases without renal injury. The index of CRP, ESR, ApoM and blood lipid level for each group was compared. The correlation of ApoM contents with CRP and ESR was analyzed.Result:The index of CRP and ESR for activity group was higher than relief group;the ApoM contents for activity group were lower than relief group;the index of CRP and ESR for renal injury group was higher than non-renal injury group;the ApoM contents for renal injury group was lower than non-renal injury group;the index of TG and LDL-C for activity group were higher than relief group;the index of TC and HDL-C for activity group were lower than relief group;the index of TG and LDL-C for renal injury group was higher than non-renal injury group;the index of TC and HDL-C for renal injury group was lower than non-renal injury group;the ApoM contents were negatively correlated with the index of ESR and CRP.Conclusion: At the activity and relief stage,, the ApoM contents for renal injury patients and non-renal injury patients are significantly different;the ApoM contents can be seen as the observation index of SEL activity. It may be correlated with the mediation of inflammatory response. 展开更多

Background:Human infections with zoonotic coronaviruses(CoVs),including severe acute respiratory syndrome(SARS)-CoV and Middle East respiratory syndrome(MERS)-CoV,have raised great public health concern globally.Here,we report a novel batorigin CoV causing severe and fatal pneumonia in humans.Methods:We collected clinical data and bronchoalveolar lavage(BAL)specimens from five patients with severe pneumonia from Wuhan Jinyintan Hospital,Hubei province,China.Nucleic acids of the BAL were extracted and subjected to next-generation sequencing.Virus isolation was carried out,and maximum-likelihood phylogenetic trees were constructed.Results:Five patients hospitalized from December 18 to December 29,2019 presented with fever,cough,and dyspnea accompanied by complications of acute respiratory distress syndrome.Chest radiography revealed diffuse opacities and consolidation.One of these patients died.Sequence results revealed the presence of a previously unknownβ-CoV strain in all five patients,with 99.8%to 99.9%nucleotide identities among the isolates.These isolates showed 79.0%nucleotide identity with the sequence of SARS-CoV(GenBank NC_004718)and 51.8%identity with the sequence of MERS-CoV(GenBank NC_019843).The virus is phylogenetically closest to a bat SARS-like CoV(SL-ZC45,GenBank MG772933)with 87.6%to 87.7%nucleotide identity,but is in a separate clade.Moreover,these viruses have a single intact open reading frame gene 8,as a further indicator of bat-origin CoVs.However,the amino acid sequence of the tentative receptor-binding domain resembles that of SARS-CoV,indicating that these viruses might use the same receptor.Conclusion:A novel bat-borne CoV was identified that is associated with severe and fatal respiratory disease in humans. 展开更多

Methods: The dynamic monitoring of lineage-specific cell subtypes (B, T, and NK cells) was made in 20 B-cell acute lympho-blastic leukemia (B-ALL) patients following allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (allo-HSCT). In the early period after allo-HSCT, the latest establishment of B-cell complete chimerism (CC) was observed in a majority of patients. Results: The percentage of donor cells of B-cell lineage was lower than the percent of T-cell lineage in most of the mixed chimerism (MC) patients. During graft rejection, the frequency of patients with decreasing MC of B-, T-and NK-cell lineage were 5/5, 2/5, and 2/5. When disease relapsed, five patients showed a faster decrease of the donor percent of B-cells than of T-or NK-cells. Only one patient displayed a more rapid decrease in NK-cells than in T-or B-cells. Conclusion: Monitoring of B-cell chimerism after HSCT seems to be valuable for insuring complete engraftment, anticipating graft rejection, and relapse in B-ALL patients.
