Objective:To investigate factors influencing vaccine hesitancy and its effects on SARS-CoV-2 infection in multiple myeloma(MM)patients during the Omicron BA.4/5 subvariant outbreak. Methods:This cross-sectional study was conducted in China'Mainland from December 26,2022,to April 20,2023.An expert-developed anonymous online questionnaire was distributed via WeChat mini-program to several groups of 500 MM patients, each comprising of 500 patients. The questionnaire covered demographic characteristics,MM medical attributes,COVID-19 vaccine status, and clinical manifestations of COVID-19.Data were analyzed to assess the impact of vaccination on COVID-19 infection rates and the disease severity among MM patients. Results:Among 508 valid responses from 30 provinces, only 34.1%(n=173)of MM patients reported receiving COVID-19 vaccination, and the proportions were lower among patients who had undergone autologous stem cell transplantation(20.2%vs.48.4%,P<0.001).Vaccine hesitancy was primarily attributed to physician recommendations(52.0%),conflicts with MM treatment(37.8%),and concerns about MM progression(31.3%).Hospitalization due to severe SARS-CoV-2 infections was significantly reduced in the vaccinated group(4.8%vs.12.3%,P=0.038).Conclusions:The lower infection rate in MM patients may be attributed to stringent quarantine measures and self-imposed social restrictions. While vaccination did not directly correlate with fewer SARS-CoV-2 infections,it did afford protection to vulnerable populations.Clinicians are encouraged to recommend vaccines to MM patients to mitigate severe infections and associated mortality during recurrent COVID-19 waves. 展开更多

The Kitaev honeycomb model has received significant attention due to its exactly solvable quantum spin liquid ground states and fractionalized excitations.Layered cobalt oxides have been considered as a promising platform for realizing this model. However,in contrast to the conventional wisdom regarding the single-q zigzag magnetic order inferred from previous studies of the candidate materials Na_(2)IrO_(3) and α-RuCl_(3),recent experiments on two representative honeycomb cobalt oxides, hexagonal Na_(2)Co_(2)TeO_(6) and monoclinic Na_(3)Co_(2)SbO_(6),have uncovered evidence for more complex multi-q zigzag order variants. This review surveys the experimental strategies used to distinguish between single-and multi-q orders, along with the crystallographic symmetries of cobalt oxides,in comparison with previously studied systems. The general formation mechanism of multi-q order is also briefly discussed. The goal is to provide a solid ground for examining the relevance of multi-q order in honeycomb cobalt oxides and discuss its implications for the microscopic model of these intriguing quantum magnets. 展开更多

Dear Editor,Multiple myeloma(MM)is characterized by the excessive production of monoclonal immunoglobin. As a lot of novel agents were approved during the last two decades, deeper responses and longer survival have been achieved in MM patients, such as minimal residual disease(MRD)measured via flow cytometry(FCM).l The development of oligoclonal bands(OB)and immunoglobin isotype(Ig)switch predicted favorable outcomes after high-dose therapy followed by autologous stem cell transplantation(ASCT)in newly diagnosed MM(NDMM)patients.2 However, even if the appearance of OB is linked to a better response,MRD negativity requires further discussion. 展开更多

The novel coronavirus(SARS-CoV-2)infection has become a heavy burden on global health.Although the coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)may adversely affect multiple organs and systems of infected patients,to the best of our knowledge, there is little investigation of the SARS-CoV-2’s impact on bone marrow. Our clinical and cytological findings in this case of severe COVID-19 infection provide novel insights into the pathogenesis of SARS-CoV-2 infection in the hematopoietic system. We recommend that physicians consider SARS-CoV-2 infection’s effect on bone marrow in patients who are slow to recover and suggest that a better understanding of the bone marrow morphology in COVID-19-infected patients is needed. 展开更多
