Herein, a Co_(3)O_(4)-ZnO/rGO was prepared by a hydrothermal method using cobalt acetate, zinc acetate, and reduced graphene oxide (rGO) as the main raw materials. The physical and chemical characteristics of the obtained catalyst were analyzed using X-ray diffraction (XRD), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS),scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR). The photocatalytic features and capacities of the catalytic materials to activate PMS were investigated. Co_(3)O_(4)-ZnO/rGO exhibited stronger photocatalytic activity and ability to activate PMS than Co_(3)O_(4)/rGO or ZnO/rGO, and significantly improved the ability of PMS and photocatalysis to synergistically degrade rhodamine B (RhB), with a degradation rate of 90.40% within 40 min. The mechanism of RhB degradation was proposed based on characterization of materials, evaluation of RhB degradation efficiency, and analysis of the active species involved. The unique particle/sheet structure of Co_(3)O_(4)-ZnO/rGO provides a large number of active sites, and the formation of heterojunctions between Co_(3)O_(4) and ZnO improves carrier separation and transport in the reaction system. Our study offers a reference for designing more effective heterojunction catalysts based on the combination of PMS and photocatalytic technology.展开更多

It is necessary for deaf-mutes to be able to communicate with others who are capable of hearing, and hearing people also need to understand sign language, which produces a great demand for sign language tuition. Even though there have already been a large number of books written about sign language, it is inefficient to learn sign language through reading alone, and the same can be said on watching videos. To solve this problem, we developed a smartphone-based interactive Chinese sign language teaching system that facilitates sign language learning. Methods The system provides a learner with some learning modes and captures the learner's actions using the front camera of the smartphone. At present, the system provides a vocabulary set with 1000 frequently used words, and the learner can evaluate his/her sign action by subjective or objective comparison. In the mode of word recognition, the users can play any word within the vocabulary, and the system will return the top three retrieved candidates;thus, it can remind the learners what the sign is. Results This system provides interactive learning to enable a user to efficiently learn sign language. The system adopts an algorithm based on point cloud recognition to evaluate a user's sign and costs about 700ms of inference time for each sample, which meets the real-time requirements. Conclusion This interactive learning system decreases the communication barriers between deaf-mutes and hearing people.展开更多

In this work, we propose an open source face recognition method with deep representation named as VIPLFaceNet, which is a lO-layer deep convolu- tional neural network with seven convolutional layers and three fully-connected layers. Compared with the well-known AlexNet, our VIPLFaceNet takes only 20% training time and 60% testing time, but achieves 40% drop in error rate on the real-world face recognition benchmark LFW. Our VIPLFaceNet achieves 98.60% mean accuracy on LFW us- ing one single network. An open-source C++ SDK based on VIPLFaceNet is released under BSD license. The SDK takes about 150ms to process one face image in a single thread on an i7 desktop CPU. VIPLFaceNet provides a state-of-the-art start point for both academic and industrial face recognition applications.展开更多

To deal with the gem eralization problem of AAM, we first reformulate the original AAM as sparsity-regularized AAM, which can achieve more compact/better shape and appearance priors by selecting nearest neighbors as the bases of the shape and appearance model. To speed up the fitting procedure, the sparsity in sparsity?regularized AAM is approximated by using the locality (i.e., AT-nearest neighbor), and thus inducing the locality-constrained active appearance model (LC-AAM). The LC-AAM solves a constrained AAM-like fitting problem with the K-nearest neighbors as the bases of shape and appearance model. To alleviate the adverse influence of inaccurate AT-nearest neighbor results, the locality constraint is further embedded in the discriminative fitting method denoted as LC-DFM, which can find better K-nearest neighbor results by employing shape-indexed feature, and can also tolerate some inaccurate neighbors benefited from the regression model rather than the generative model in AAM. Extensive experiments on several datasets demonstrate that our methods outperform the state-of-the-arts in both detection accuracy and generalization ability.展开更多
