Reducing oxidative stress and hepatoprotective effect of Pu-erh tea water extracts on rats fed with high-fat diet were researched for explaining health care of Pu-erh tea.Fifty SD rats were divided into five groups. The body weight was measured once a day.The malondialdehyde(MDA)and glucose(Glu)levels and the activities of alanine aminotransferase(ALT),aspartate aminotransferase(AST),nitric oxide synthase(NOS),and pyruvate kinase(PK)in serum were determined.Furthermore, the hepatic glycogen level(HGL)and the activities of hepatic total superoxide dismutase(T-SOD),catalase(CAT),and glutathione peroxidase(GSH-Px)were also measured after continuous administration for 12 weeks. The result demonstrated that Pu-erh extract caused the decreases in body weight, fat index,MDA and NOS levels, and the increases in hepatic T-SOD,CAT and GSH-Px activities, indicating that the extract may be due to inhibiting the increases of body weight and fat index, reducing oxidant stress state and inhibiting lipid peroxidation, thus decreasing the activities of ALT and AST,and protecting the liver in rat.Meanwhile, the extracts could increase the production of hepatic glycogen and the activity of PK,and reduce glucose level, protecting the liver from the diseases associated with type II diabetes. 展开更多

One hundred patients with focal epilepsy were recruited for the present study and their seizures controlled with antiepileptic drugs. The patients then orally received a capsule of tall gastrodis tuber powder, a traditional Chinese drug, and underwent single photon emission computed tomography, long-term electroencephalogram, and CT/MRI. Blood drug levels were monitored throughout the study. Before treatment with tall gastrodis tuber, 35 of the 100 cases had abnormal CT/MRI scans; 79 cases had abnormal single photon emission computed tomography images; 86 cases had abnormal electroencephalogram; and a total of 146 abnormal perfusion foci were observed across the 100 subjects. After treatment, the number of patients with normal single photon emission computed tomography images increased by 12; normal electroencephalogram was observed in an additional 27 cases and the number of patients with epileptiform discharge decreased by 29 (34% of 86); the total number of abnormal perfusion foci decreased by 52 (36%) and changes in abnormal loci were visible in 65 patients. These changes indicate that the administration of tall gastrodis tuber in combination with antiepileptic drugs repairs abnormal perfusion foci in patients with focal epilepsy Our results demonstrate that traditional Chinese drugs can repair abnormal perfusion foci and, as such, are a promising new pathway in the treatment of focal epilepsy. 展开更多

Two different scenarios for the rotation matrices of the agents are considered. In the first scenario, the rotations are contained in a convex subset of SO(3), which is a ball of radius less than π/2, whereas in the second scenario the agents are contained in a subset of SO(3), which is a ball of radius less than ~. Using a control law based on backstepping and sliding mode control, we provide distributed, semi-global, torque control laws for the agents so that the rotations asymptotically synchronize. The control laws for the agents in the first scenario only depend on the relative rotations between neighboring agents, whereas the control laws in the second scenario depend on rotations defined in a global coordinate frame, lllustrative examples are provided where the synchronization is shown for both scenarios. 展开更多

The influenza A(H1 N1)pdm09 virus emerged in 2009 and has been continuously circulating in humans for over ten years. Here,we analyzed a clinical influenza A(H1 N1)pdm09-infected patient case hospitalized for two months in Guangdong(from December 14,2019 to February 15,2020).This isolate, named A/Guangdong/LCF/2019(LCF/19),was genetically sequenced, rescued by reverse genetics, and phylogenetically analyzed in the context of other relevant pdm09 isolates.Compared with earlier isolates, this pdm09 virus’s genetic sequence contains four substitutions,S186 P,T188 I,D190 A,and Q192 E,of the hemagglutinin(HA)segment at position 186–192(H3 numbering)in the epitope Sb,and two of which are located at the 190-helix.Phylogenetic analysis indicated that the epitope Sb started undergoing a rapid antigenic change in2018.To characterize the pathogenicity of this novel substitution motif,a panel of reassortant viruses containing the LCF/2019 HA segment or the chimeric HA segment with the four substitutions were rescued.Kinetic growth data revealed that the reassortant viruses, including the LCF/2019 with the PTIAAQE substitution, propagated faster than those rescued ones having the STTADQQ motif in the epitope Sb in Madin-Darby Canine Kidney(MDCK)cells. The HI test showed that the binding activity of escape mutant to 2018 pdm09 sera was weaker than GLW/2018,suggesting that old vaccines might not effectively protect people from infection.Due to the difference in the selection of vaccine strains, people vaccinated in the southern hemisphere could still suffer a severe infection if infected with this antigenic drift pdm09 virus. 展开更多

The Influenza A(H1N1)pdm09 virus caused a global pandemic in 2009 and has circulated seasonally ever since. As the continual genetic evolution of hemagglutinin in this virus leads to antigenic drift, rapid identification of antigenic variants and characterization of the antigenic evolution are needed. In this study,we developed PREDAC-H1pdm,a model to predict antigenic relationships between H1N1pdm viruses and identify antigenic clusters for post-2009 pandemic H1N1 strains. Our model performed well in predicting antigenic variants, which was helpful in influenza surveillance.By mapping the antigenic clusters for H1N1pdm,we found that substitutions on the Sa epitope were common for H1N1pdm,whereas for the former seasonal H1N1,substitutions on the Sb epitope were more common in antigenic evolution.Additionally, the localized epidemic pattern of H1N1pdm was more obvious than that of the former seasonal H1N1,which could make vaccine recommendation more sophisticated.Overall, the antigenic relationship prediction model we developed provides a rapid determination method for identifying antigenic variants, and the further analysis of evolutionary and epidemic characteristics can facilitate vaccine recommendations and influenza surveillance for H1N1pdm. 展开更多

The zonal width of the Ural blocking(UB)is a potentially crucial characteristic related to cold events in Eurasia. While most studies focus on the intensity, duration, frequency, and mobility of blocking events, the importance of UB zonal width has often been overlooked.Against the backdrop of the declining Arctic sea ice concentration(SIC),the changes in UB zonal width and their association with winter extreme cold events in China remain unclear and require further investigation. This study defines the UB zonal width as the longitude difference between the easternmost and westernmost points of the 120-gpm contour line in the 500-hPa geopotential height(Z500)anomaly field.Based on the NCEP/NCA Rreanalysis data and SIC observations during 1970–2020,the UB width and coldair events under varied SIC conditions are examined. It is found that as SIC decreases in the Barents–Kara Sea(BKS),the UB extends zonally, coinciding with the transition of the North Atlantic Oscillation(NAO)from its positive to negative phase.Additionally, linear baroclinic model(LBM)simulations indicate that as the BKS warms, the zonal width of the UB broadens.Concurrently, warming sea surface temperatures(SST)in the BKS lead to decreased 500-hPa zonal wind(U500)and meridional potential vorticity gradient(PVy)over mid–high latitudes in Eurasia. As a result, energy dispersion weakens and nonlinearity strengthens in the Ural region, resulting in a more zonal extension of the UB.Consequently, the frequency of winter cold events of varying intensities in China increases, such as high-tolow latitude(H–L)and middle-to-low latitude(M–L)cold events. For H–L cold events, both intensity and frequency are higher during low SIC years when the UB widens.Conversely, for M–L events, there is no significant difference in the relationship of UB and cold air intrusion between high and low SIC years.Overall, reduced BKS SIC leads to a more zonal extension of the UB,facilitating the southward movement of cold air and influencing southern China. 展开更多
