To quantify and compare the characteristics of anuran calls in Gutianshan National Nature Reserve, Zhejiang Province, we recorded the advertisement calls of eight species belonging to four families (Ranidae, Microhylidae, Megophryidae and Bufonidae) from June to September 2012 using Sony ICD-FX8 IC recorders. All recordings were analyzed using the "Praat" software. Five acoustics parameters were measured, including temporal traits (call duration, number of notes or pulse number/call) and spectral traits (fundamental frequency, the first three formants and dominant frequency). The characteristic parameters of Microhyla ornate and Fejervarya limnocharis calls were different as were the calls of some populations of the same species recorded in different regions. The advertisement calls of the eight species were specific. Our study has provided a useful reference for identifying the calls of some common Chinese anurans.展开更多

However, little is known of the relationships within vertically structured plant communities such as forests, where tree saplings interact with herbaceous species, especially in the early phases of succession. This relationship was tested in a common garden experiment which assessed the impacts on tree saplings and herbaceous species following nutrient addition and the introduction of exotic herb species. The experiment was established in South- East China using four broad-leaved tree species (Elaeocarpus decipiens, Schima superba, Castanea henryi and Quercus serrata) to study the relationships between tree sapling diversity, herb-layer productivity and invasibility. Tree saplings were planted in monoculture and in mixtures of two and four species. A full factorial design was applied, within which species composition was crossed with nutrient and exotic seed-addition treatments. The seed-addition treatment included mixtures of seeds from eight exotic herb species, and herb community attributes were assessed after a four month growing season. Results indicate that certain tree species negatively affect native as well as exotic herbs;however, the high productivity of native herbs had a stronger negative impact on exotic species than tree saplings. Nutrient addition increased the productivity of exotic herbs but had no effect on native herbs. Remarkably, exotic species introduction had a negative feedback effect on the growth of tree saplings, which highlights the potential of exotic herbs to diminish tree recruitment. Although tree saplings reduced invasive effects on the herb-layer during the earliest phase of forest succession, nutrient addition had a more profound and opposite effect on these invaders.展开更多

Methods: A t...Objective: To explore the influence of probucol-assisted retinal photocoagulation therapy on the visual performance and serum biochemical indexes in patients with early proliferative diabetic retinopathy. Methods: A total of 170 patients with early proliferative DR who were treated in the hospital between December 2014 and May 2017 were retrospectively analyzed and divided into the control group (n=107) who received retinal photocoagulation therapy alone and the probucol group (n=63) who received probucol-assisted retinal photocoagulation therapy. The differences in the contents of visual performance indexes as well as serum angiogenesis indexes, inflammatory mediators and oxidative stress indexes were compared between the two groups before treatment and after 6 weeks of treatment. Results: Before treatment, the differences in the levels of visual performance indexes as well as serum contents of angiogenesis indexes, inflammatory mediators and oxidative stress indexes were not statistically significant between the two groups of patients. After 6 weeks of treatment, mean vision, 30 visual acuity and 30-60 visual acuity of probucol group were higher than those of control group;serum angiogenesis indexes HIF-1, VEGF and Ang-2 contents were lower than those of control group;serum inflammatory mediators ICAM-1, IL-2, IL-23 and TNF-α contents were lower than those of control group;serum oxidative stress index MDA content was lower than that of control group whereas TAC content was higher than that of control group. Conclusion: Probucol-assisted retinal photocoagulation therapy can effectively optimize the visual performance and promote the homeostasis recovery in patients with early proliferative diabetic retinopathy.展开更多
SnTe, as the nontoxic analogue to high-performance PbTe thermoelectric material, has captured the worldwide interest recently. Many triumphant instances focus on the strategies of band convergence, resonant doping, and nano-precipitates phonon scattering. Herein, the p-type SnTe-based materials Sn0.85-xSb0.15MgxTe (x=0-0.10) are fabricated and a combined effect of Sb and Mg is investigated. Sb alloying tunes the hole carrier concentration of SnTe and decreases the lattice thermal conductivity. Mg alloying leads to a nearly hundredfold rise of disorder parameter due to the large mass and strain fluctuations, and as a consequence the lattice thermal conductivity decreases further down to ~0.64Wm^-1K^-1 at 773K, close to the theoretical minimum of the lattice thermal conductivity (~0.50Wm^-1K^-1) of SnTe. In conjunction with the enhancement of the Seebeck coefficient caused by band convergence due to Mg alloying, the maximum zTmax reaches ~1.02 and the device zTdevice of ~0.50 at 773K for Sn0.79Sb0.15Mg0.06Te, suggesting this SnTe-based composition has a promising potential in intermediate temperature thermoelectric applications.展开更多
