The surge in environmental pollution in recent years driven by numerous pollutants has necessitated the search for efficient removal methods.Phytoremediation is an eco-friendly technique that provides multiple benefits over conventional methods of removing contaminants.Despite the numerous benefits of this technique,it has certain limitations that can be addressed by incorporating nanoparticles to improve its effectiveness. This review paper aims to explore the impact of heavy metal pollution on plants and human health. It highlights the role and mechanism of nanoparticles in enhancing phytoremediation, their application in the detection of heavy metals, and the strategies for the safe disposal of phytoremediation biomass.Biosynthesized nanoparticles are eco-friendly and non-toxic,with applications in biomedical and environmental fields.Nanoparticles can be used in the form of nano biosensors like smartphone-operated wireless sensors made from Cinnamomum camphora, enabling efficient detection of heavy metal ions.According to the studies, nanoparticles remove 80%–97%of heavy metals by various methods like reduction, precipitation, adsorption, etc. The phytoremediation biomass disposal can be done by heat treatment, phytomining, and microbial treatment with some modifications to further enhance their results.Phytoremediation is an environmentally friendly technique but requires further research and integration with biomass energy production to overcome scalability challenges and ensure safe biomass disposal. 展开更多

India is highly vulnerable to climate change and is going to increase its average annual temperature over the next few decades. The impact of heatwaves and related mortality is a concern for the country. In this paper,we aim to study the heatwaves and heat stress-related Heat Index vulnerability using heat index temperature. In this analysis,a heat in-dex temperature is calculated based on temperature and relative humidity for six different states(Delhi,West Bengal,Punjab,Uttar Pradesh,Andhra Pradesh, and Madhya Pradesh)of India to determine the heat stress vulnerability for which heat cramps and heat strokes are possible. Our analysis shows that most of the heatwaves and severe heatwaves occurred during 2010 for all the states. The heatwaves are observed only in the summer months. All the states of our study reached the Extreme Caution category of the Heat Index showing the Danger to Extreme Danger category dur-ing April to June.Future projection scenarios show an increase in heat stress-related vulnerability.SSP2-4.5 scenario showed that Delhi,Punjab, and West Bengal reached an Extreme Danger state during June for which death due to heat strokes is possible under continued exposure to heatwaves. The HI related vulnerability of SSP5-8.5 is like SSP2-4.5 except for Andhra Pradesh which shows an Extreme Danger state in May and June during which heat strokes are possi-ble under continued exposure to heatwaves. This study provides spatial variability of heat stress and Heat Index vulner-ability which may help adopt future strategies for heat-related policy implication. 展开更多

Chromobacterium violaceum is a gram-negative bacterium, which has been used widely in microbiology labs involved in quorum sensing(QS) research. Among the QS-regulated traits of this bacterium, violacein production has received the maximum attention. Violacein production in this organism, however is not under sole control of QS machinery, and other QSregulated traits of this bacterium also need to be investigated in better detail. Though not often involved in human infections, this bacterium is being viewed as an emerging pathogen. This review attempts to highlight the recent research advances on Chromobacterium violaceum, with respect to violacein biosynthesis, development of various applications of this bacterium and its bioactive metabolite violacein, and its pathogenicity. 展开更多

Sacred groves preserve a rich religious and socio-cultural heritage of Indian biodiversity from primeval times, due to their values. They act as a bridge between man and nature.Groves help to improve soil quality, replenish water resources and are pivotal for biodiversity conservation of plants and animals including rare, endemic, threatened, vulnerable species and ethnobotanical species. Most of India's sacred groves are associated with a deity or a spiritual being, who protects the grove and local people.Vegetation cover of these groves has traditional ethnobotanical value, especially in the field of ethnomedicine, which accounts for the conservation of groves over the years.Numerous plant species from sacred groves are used according to tradition and culture to prevent or cure various health problems. However, modernisation, industrialisation, increased encroachment and misuse of forest resources increasingly threaten sacred groves. These treasures of nature must be conserved by formulating and applying new laws and policies while creating awareness among people about the value of sacred groves.Toward this aim,we review the distribution, ecological and socio-cultural significance of sacred groves of India and strategies to conserve them. 展开更多

The active ingredients of ginger(Zingiber officinale)are 6-gingerol,8-gingerol,and 10-gingerol.Ginger is reported to be an antioxidant, anticancer, and anti-inflammatory agent because of its bioactive metabolites. The 3 gingerols share a standard ring structure with different side chains. The maintenance of telomeric length by telomerase is a major issue in almost all cancers.Targeting TERRA G4 could provide a method to inhibit telomerase activity.Molecular docking, molecular dynamics simulations, molecular mechanics Poisson-Boltzmann surface area, principal component analysis, and free energy landscape analysis were performed to evaluate gingerol-TERRA G4 interactions, the extent and stability of these interactions, and the binding free energy and stability of the complexes of the 3 gingerols with TERRA G4.The results revealed that 10-gingerol has superior binding and stabilizing potential for TERRA G4 structures. These findings suggest that TERRA G4 could be a promising therapeutic target for cancer and that 10-gingerol may serve as a potential anticancer lead compound.Further in vitro and in vivo studies to determine the effective dose and toxicity are necessary to evaluate its safety and efficacy. 展开更多
