Heat Transfer and Friction Factor Studies in a Circular Tube Fitted with Twisted Tape Consisting of Wire-nails 被引量:13

This paper deals with the experimental investigation on Nusselt number,friction factor and thermal en-hancement factor of a double pipe heat exchanger equipped with twisted tape consisting wire nails(WN-TT) and plain twisted tapes(P-TT) with three different twist ratios of y 2.0,4.4 and 6.0. Test runs are conducted using the water as the working fluid with Reynolds number range between 2000 and 12000 for WN-TT and P-TT. It is found that Nusselt number,friction factor and thermal enhancement factor in the tube equipped with WN-TT appreciably higher than those in the tube fitted with P-TT and plain tube. Over the range considered Nusselt number,friction factor and thermal enhancement factor in a tube with WN-TT are respectively,1.08 to 1.31,1.1 to 1.75 and 1.05 to 1.13 times of those in tube with P-TT. The better performance of WN-TT is due to combined effects of the follow-ing factors:(1) common swirling flow generated by P-TT,(2) additional turbulence offered by the wire nails. Em-pirical correlations for Nusselt number,friction factor and thermal enhancement factor are also formulated from the experimental results of WN-TT and P-TT. 展开更多

Single crystals of Glycine Zinc Chloride (GZC) were grown from aqueous solution by slow evaporation technique. Single crystal X-ray diffraction analysis reveals that the crystal belongs to orthorhombic system with the space group Pna21.The optical transmission study reveals the transparency of the crystal in the entire visible region and the cut off wavelength has been found to be 230 nm. The optical band gap is found to be 3.40eV. The transmittance of GZC crystal has been used to calculate the refractive index (n), the extinction coefficient (K) and the real er and imaginary ei components of the dielectric constant. Mechanical studies were carried out on the as grown crystal. Dielectric constant and dielectric loss measurements were carried out at different temperatures and frequencies. Photoconductivity measurements carried out on the grown crystal reveal the negative photoconducting nature. 展开更多

Single crystal X-ray diffraction analysis reveals that the crystal belongs to monoclinic system. The optical transmission study reveals the transparency of the crystal in the entire visible region and the cut off wave length has been found to be 470 nm. The optical band gap is found to be 2.55 eV. The transmittance of L-Valinium picrate crystal has been used to calculate the refractive index (n), the extinction coefficient (K) and both the real (εr) and imaginary (εi) components of the dielectric constant as functions of wavelength. Low dielectric loss at high frequency region is indicative of enhanced optical quality with lesser defects. Photoconductivity measurements carried out on the grown crystal reveal the negative photoconducting nature. 展开更多

Non-linear optical materials find wide range of applications in the fields of opto-electronics, fiber optic communication, computer memory devices etc. Tris-Glycine Zinc Chloride (TGZC) is one of the NLO materials exhibiting more efficiency. In the present study Tris-Glycine Zinc Chloride were grown is single crystal form using slow evaporation technique. Single crystal X-ray diffraction analysis reveals that the crystal belongs to orthorhombic system with the space group Pbn21. The optical absorption studies show that the crystal is transparent in the entire visible region with a cut off wavelength of 250 nm. The optical band gap is found to be 4.60 eV. The dependence of extinction coefficient (K) and refractive index (n) on the wavelength has also been reported. Force constants (k) were calculated using FTIR spectral analysis which shows higher values of k for COO and C=O stretching vibrations. The dielectric studies show that the dielectric constant and dielectric loss decrease exponentially with frequency at different temperatures (35℃, 55℃, 75℃ and 95℃). 展开更多

The cell parameters and the crystallinity of the grown crystal were estimated by the single-crystal. Optical transmittance of the crystal was recorded using the UV–vis–NIR spectrophotometer. The optical band gap and optical constant of the material were determined by using transmission spectrum. The dielectric loss and dielectric constant measurements as a function of frequency and temperature were measured for the grown crystal. 展开更多

Therefore, they find applications in sensors, actuators for producing ultrasonics and micro positioning. The material dichloridoglycine zinc dihydrate is a centrosymmetric ferroelectric crystal. In the present study, this crystal has been grown from a mixture of glycine and zinc chloride. The dielectric constant and the dielectric loss of the grown crystal were studied as a function of frequency and temperature, and the corresponding relaxation time (τ), relaxation frequency (Fr) and the activation energy have been calculated. The ferroelectric property of the crystal has been confirmed by dielectric studies. The ferroelectric characteristics of the crystal have been studied and reported. 展开更多

The aim of this paper is to observe the Nusselt number and friction factor behavior of the circular tube with conical strip inserts as turbulators in a laminar flow condition, using staggered and non-staggered conical strips with three different twist ratios (Y = 2, 3 and 5). The conical strip is inserted in the forward and backward direction individually compared to the flow of water which is the working fluid. The results indicate that the conical strip inserts increases the Nusselt number when compared to the plain surface tube. It is observed that the strip geometry has a major effect on the thermal performance of the circular tube. On examination of different strips for determining the enhancement of Nusselt number, the staggered conical strip with the twist ratio of Y = 3 has given a better result compared to the other two strips. Finally, correlations have been derived using regression analysis for predicting the Nusselt number and friction factor. 展开更多
