This paper focuses on the feasibility analysis, using the HOMER Pro simulation program, of an islanded micro-grid for the Navajo community in Tohatchi, New Mexico using different energy mixes of a Photovoltaics (PV) system, a Wind Energy system, a Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) and a Diesel Generator.</span></span><span><span><span style="font-family:""> </span></span></span><span style="font-family:Verdana;"><span style="font-family:Verdana;"><span style="font-family:Verdana;">The Net Present Cost (NPC), </span></span></span><span style="font-family:Verdana;"><span style="font-family:Verdana;"><span style="font-family:Verdana;">and</span></span></span><span><span><span style="font-family:""><span style="font-family:Verdana;"> the Levelized Cost of Electricity (LCOE), were the two crucial economic factors considered. Through the analysis, the system with the PV, wind turbines, battery, and a diesel generator was found to have the lowest LCOE and NPC. There was a reduction of 75% in the costs of the combined system as compared to the diesel-only base case. Also, this combined system provided the minimum emission levels.</span><sup> </sup><span style="font-family:Verdana;">The analysis suggests that the integration of renewable energy using microgrids to help the access of energy for rural areas was possible. This study investigates the steam generating potential of a solar steam generation system and the potential for utility scale implementation in Libya oil for steam demanding enhanced oil recovery (EOR) methods. The proposed system uses parabolic troughs as solar collectors. The technology is proved to be technically feasible. Solar EOR should be seen as an add-on to existing plants due to the abundance of solar energy in Libya. The System Advisor Model (SAM) model system, developed by the National Office of Renewable Energy (NRE), was used to assess the plant’s active and economic performance. 展开更多

Energy is critical to the economic growth and social development of any country. Indigenous energy resources need to be developed to the optimum level to minimize dependence on imported fuels, subject to resolving economic, environmental and social constraints. This led to an increase in research and development as well as investments in the renewable energy industry in search of ways to meet the energy demand and to reduce the dependency on fossil fuels. Wind and solar energy are becoming popular owing to the abundance, availability and ease of harnessing the energy for electrical power generation. This paper focuses on an integrated hybrid renewable energy system consisting of wind and solar energies. Many parts of Libya have the potential for the development of economic power generation, so maps locations were used to identify where both wind and solar potentials are high. The focal point of this paper is to describe and evaluate a wind-solar hybrid power generation system for a selected location. Grid-tied power generation systems make use of solar PV or wind turbines to produce electricity and supply the load by connecting to the grid. In this study, the HOMER (Hybrid Optimization Model for Electric Renewable) computer modeling software was used to model the power system, its physical behavior and its life cycle cost. This investigation focused on the analysis of using the M-cycle (Maisotsenko cycle) to improve the efficiency of a gas turbine engine. By combining the M-cycle with an open Brayton cycle, a new cycle, is known as the MCTC (Maisotsenko combustion turbine cycle), was formed. The MCTC used an indirect evaporative air cooler as a saturator with a gas turbine engine. The saturator was applied on the side of the turbine exhaust (M-cycle#2) in the analysis. The analysis included calculations and the development of an EES (engineering equation solver) code to model the MCTC system performance. The resulting performance curves were graphed to show the effects of several parameters on the thermal efficiency and net power output of the gas turbine engine. The models were also compared with actual experimental test that results from a gas turbine engine. Conclusions and discussions of results are also given. 展开更多
