However, this...The crystallinity has the potential to distinguish the primary and secondary calcite in Chinese loess, which then provides insights into illuviation depth and variations of the East Asian Summer Monsoon. However, this aspect has been rarely investigated. In this study, we defined the crystallinity of calcite as the height/area (H/A) ratio of the diffracted peak at crystal face (1 0 4). The H/A ratio inversely correlates with the average width of the diffracted peak, where a higher H/A ratio indicates higher crystallinity of calcite. Through the mixing and synthetic experiments, we found that the H/A ratio is minimally affected by factors such as calcite content, deposition temperature or rate but significantly influenced by the ionic impurity and the mixing proportion of different calcites. Subsequently, we examined desert samples of loess sources and loess carbonate nodules. Desert samples predominantly consist of primary calcite which inherits characteristics from cryptocrystalline limestone with high levels of ionic impurities resulting in low H/A ratio of 4.30 ± 0.51. In contrast, loess carbonate nodules contain abundant secondary calcite precipitated within soil interstices with low levels of ionic impurities leading to a significantly higher H/A ratio of 7.76 ± 0.82. Consequently, higher H/A ratios during interglacial periods compared to glacial periods are attributed to variations in relative proportions between primary and secondary calcite in loess sequences. The thickness, between the glacial-interglacial boundary and the depth where the H/A ratio starts to increase from the bottom to the top in the loess layer, can be used to indicate the illuviation depth of upper-soil carbonates and the intensity of the East Asian Summer Monsoon. This proxy can be further applied in long-term loess sequences to uncover the summer monsoon evolution.展开更多

文摘By combining data from the Challenging Minisatellite Payload(CHAMP),Swarm-A,and newest Macao Science Satellite-1(MSS-1) missions,we constructed a lithospheric magnetic field model up to spherical harmonic degree N = 100.To isolate the lithospheric magnetic field signals,we utilized the latest CHAOS-8(CHAMP,Φrsted,and SAC-C 8) model and MGFM(Multisource Geomagnetic Field Model) to remove nonlithospheric sources, including the core field, magnetospheric field, ocean tidal field, and ocean circulation field.Subsequently,orbit-by-orbit processing was applied to both scalar and vector data, such as spherical harmonic high-pass filtering, singular spectrum analysis, and line leveling,to suppress noise and residual signals along the satellite tracks. With an orbital inclination of only 41°,MSS-1 effectively captures fine-scale lithospheric magnetic field signals in mid-to low-latitude regions. Its data exhibit a root mean square error of only 0.77 nT relative to the final model, confirming the high quality and utility of lithospheric field modeling. The resulting model exhibits excellent consistency with the MF7(Magnetic Field Model 7),maintaining a high correlation up to N = 90 and still exceeding 0.65 at N = 100.These results demonstrate the reliability and value of MSS-1 data in global lithospheric magnetic field modeling.

文摘As a means of quantitative interpretation, forward calculations of the global lithospheric magnetic field in the Spherical Harmonic(SH)domain have been widely used to reveal geophysical, lithological, and geothermal variations in the lithosphere.Traditional approaches either do not consider the non-axial dipolar terms of the inducing field and its radial variation or do so by means of complicated formulae. Moreover, existing methods treat the magnetic lithosphere either as an infinitesimally thin layer or as a radially uniform spherical shell of constant thickness. Here,we present alternative forward formulae that account for an arbitrarily high maximum degree of the inducing field and for a magnetic lithosphere of variable thickness. Our simulations based on these formulae suggest that the satellite magnetic anomaly field is sensitive to the non-axial dipolar terms of the inducing field but not to its radial variation. Therefore,in forward and inverse calculations of satellite magnetic anomaly data, the non-axial dipolar terms of the inducing field should not be ignored.Furthermore, our results show that the satellite magnetic anomaly field is sensitive to variability in the lateral thickness of the magnetized shell. In particular,we show that for a given vertically integrated susceptibility distribution, underestimating the thickness of the magnetic layer overestimates the induced magnetic field. This discovery bridges the greatest part of the alleged gap between the susceptibility values measured from rock samples and the susceptibility values required to match the observed magnetic field signal. We expect the formulae and conclusions of this study to be a valuable tool for the quantitative interpretation of the Earth's global lithospheric magnetic field, through an inverse or forward modelling approach.

文摘Fundamental physics often confronts complex symbolic problems with few guiding exemplars or established principles. While artificial intelligence(AI)offers promise, its typical need for vast datasets to learn from hinders its use in these information-scarce frontiers. We introduce learning at criticality(LaC),a reinforcement learning scheme that tunes large language models(LLMs)to a sharp learning transition, addressing this information scarcity. At this transition,LLMs achieve peak generalization from minimal data, exemplified by 7-digit base-7 addition-a test of nontrivial arithmetic reasoning. To elucidate this peak,we analyze a minimal concept-network model designed to capture the essence of how LLMs might link tokens.Trained on a single exemplar, this model also undergoes a sharp learning transition. This transition exhibits hallmarks of a second-order phase transition, notably power-law distributed solution path lengths. At this critical point, the system maximizes a“critical thinking pattern”crucial for generalization, enabled by the underlying scale-free exploration. This suggests LLMs reach peak performance by operating at criticality, where such explorative dynamics enable the extraction of underlying operational rules. We demonstrate LaC in quantum field theory:an 8B-parameter LLM,tuned to its critical point by LaC using a few exemplars of symbolic Matsubara sums, solves unseen,higher-order problems, significantly outperforming far larger models.LaC thus leverages critical phenomena,a physical principle,to empower AI for complex,data-sparse challenges in fundamental physics.

文摘The crystallinity has the potential to distinguish the primary and secondary calcite in Chinese loess, which then provides insights into illuviation depth and variations of the East Asian Summer Monsoon. This proxy can be further applied in long-term loess sequences to uncover the summer monsoon evolution.

文摘Defect engineering is a commonly methodology used to enhance the thermoelectric performance of thermoelectric PbTe by improving its electronic transport properties. At the nanoscale, defects can induce quantum tunneling effects that significantly impact the electrical properties of materials. To understand the specific mechanisms underlying the quantum transport properties of PbTe,we employ the non-equilibrium Green's function(NEGF)method to investigate the effects of intrinsic defects(point defects and grain boundaries)on the electronic transport properties of PbTe-based nanodevices from a quantum mechanical perspective. Our results show that the Pb vacancy(VPb)has the highest conduction. The conduction depends on the defect type, chemical potential and bias voltage. The presence of intrinsic point defects introduces impurity levels, facilitating the electron tunneling and leading to an increase in the transmission coefficient, thereby enhancing the electronic transport properties. For PbTe containing grain boundaries, these boundaries suppress the electronic transport properties. The Te occupied twin boundary(Te-TB)exerts a stronger inhibitory effect than the Pb occupied twin boundary(Pb-TB).Nevertheless,the combined effect between twin boundaries and point defects can enhance the electrical properties. Therefore,in order to obtain highly conductive of PbTe materials,a Te-rich synthesis environment should be used to promote the effective formation of Pb vacancy. Our work offers a comprehensive understanding of the impact of defects on electron scattering in thermoelectric materials.

文摘This study investigates the volumetric behaviors of various soils during freeze-thaw(FT)cycles and subsequent one-dimensional(1D)compression from experimental and theoretical studies.Experimental studies were performed on saturated expansive soil specimens with varying compaction conditions and soil structures under different stress states.Experimental results demonstrate that the specimens expand during freezing and contract during thawing. All specimens converge to the same residual void ratio after seven FT cycles, irrespective of their different initial void ratio, stress state, and soil structure. The compression index of the expansive soil specimens increases with the initial void ratio, whereas their swelling index remains nearly constant.A model extending the disturbed state concept(DSC)is proposed to predict the 1D compression behaviors of FT-impacted soils. The model incorporates a parameter,b,to account for the impacts of FT cycles.Empirical equations have been developed to link the key model parameters(i.e.the normalized yield stress and parameter b)to the soil state parameter(i.e.the normalized void ratio)in order to simplify the prediction approach. The proposed model well predicts the results of the tested expansive soil.In addition, the model’s feasibility for other types of soils, including low-and high-plastic clays, and high-plastic organic soils, has been validated using published data from the literature. The proposed model is simple yet reliable for predicting the compression behaviors of soils subjected to FT cycles.

文摘Enhancing urban resilience is a powerful strategy for mitigating floods caused by both intensive human activities and climate change. However, existing studies have limitations, highlighting the need for a more comprehensive framework for assessing flood resilience based on the resilience evolution process. Therefore, the objective of this study was to develop an integrated framework for evaluating urban flood resilience, incorporating Bayesian networks and Geographic Information Systems(GIS)to explore the driving mechanisms behind flood resilience with the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei urban agglomeration in China as a case study. The results indicated that:(1)inundation risk, population risk, and flooding mitigation were the most critical indicators influencing urban flood resilience;(2)Chengde and Tangshan emerged as key areas with high resistance capabilities, while Zhangjiakou and Baoding showed notable strengths in functional recovery;(3)the average value of urban flood resilience decreased from 0.58 under a 5-year rainfall return period to 0.54 under a 100-year rainfall return period, representing a 5.6% decrease, with Zhangjiakou exhibiting the highest flood resilience. These findings are of significant importance for policymakers involved in flood risk management.

文摘Molecularly imprinted polymers(MIPs)are a kind of synthetic receptors possessing wide application prospects in proteins recognition. However, there are still great challenges in proteins imprinting due to their large size and easy conformation change. In this study,we explored epitope-oriented MIP based on host-vip interaction(hg-MIP)and constructed a novel hg-MIP-SERS(surface-enhanced Raman scatting)approach for efficiently recognizing the terminal epitopes of neuron-specific enolase(NSE),a well-known disease biomarker for small cell lung cancer, neuroblstom, and Alzheimer's disease. The C-and N-terminal epitopes of NSE were modified with 4-(phenylazo)benzoic acid, then they were used as the templates and immobilized onβ-cyclodextrin-functionalized substrates. The imprinted layer was formed by polymerization of various functional monomers.Combined with SERS detection,an antibody-free sandwich assay based on hg-MIP was successfully used to detect the concentration of NSE in human serums, with the advantages of simple operation, small sample volume(5μL),wide linear range(1–10^(4)ng/m L)and a limit of detection as low as 0.01 ng/m L.The developed epitope-oriented hg-MIP-SERS approach can also be extended to other proteins, expanding the imprinting method of proteins, and has a broad development space in the field of protein separation and detection.

文摘The Earth's magnetic field, which has been extensively observed from ground to satellite altitudes over several decades, originates from multiple sources, such as the core dynamo, the conductive mantle, the magnetized lithosphere, and the space current systems.Modeling of the lithospheric contribution plays an important role in the geophysical studies and industrial applications. In this paper,we propose a new method for global and regional modeling of the lithospheric magnetic field based on the cubed-sphere.An equivalent dipole source method on a quasi-uniform cubed-sphere grid is employed in the forward modeling. The dipole directions are fixed according to a priori magnetization and the relative intensities are estimated by an inversion procedure of least-squares fitting with minimum model regularization.Several numerical tests are performed to validate the accuracy and efficiency of both forward modeling and inversion procedure. The proposed method is applied to the global and regional modeling based on the latest magnetic data from Swarm Alpha satellite and MSS-1 mission. The model results indicate that the proposed method works quite well for realistic satellite data and MSS-1 data is consistent with the Swarm data in terms of lithospheric field modeling.

文摘How to achieve low energy consumption and high degradation efficiency(DRE)under mild conditions is an important issue in the field of sulfur hexafluoride(SF_(6))treatment.In this work,a new route of SF_(6)degradation promoted by Ni-doped ceria(NiO-CeO_(2))in a packed bed dielectric barrier discharge(PB-DBD)was proposed. The effects of Ni/Ce molar ratio, input power,SF_(6)concentration and flow rate on the DRE of SF_(6)were investigated.Compared with DBD or CeO_(2)-DBD alone, the combination of DBD and NiO-CeO_(2)can significantly promote the SF_(6)degradation at lower input power. The experimental results show that when the dosage of catalyst 1.5NiO-CeO_(2)(Ni/Ce mole ratio is 1.5%)is 5 g,DBD input power is 50 W and SF_(6)(1.5%SF_(6)/98.5%Ar)flow rate is 100 ml·min-1,the highest DRE can reach 97.7%and the energy yield can reach 11.5 g·(kW·h)-1.Adjusting the catalyst dosage according to the flux of SF_(6)(e.g.,using 10 g catalyst to degrade SF_(6)with a concentration of 1.5%and a flow rate of 80 ml·min-1),the DRE of nearly 99%can be achieved for a long time, which is crucial for industrial application. The mechanism deduction shows that the rich surface and mesopores of the catalyst are beneficial to the adsorption of SF_(6)and intermediates, while the doping of Ni can significantly increase the content of oxygen vacancies to improve the degradation.Meanwhile, when NiO-CeO_(2)is activated by DBD,the free O·can further promote the degradation. It is this coupling effect that leads to the high efficiency and low energy consumption of SF_(6)degradation under mild conditions. It can be expected that this coupling technology route will have a good application prospect in the field of SF_(6)treatment.

文摘TiO_(2)is a well-known photocatalyst with a band gap of 3.2 eV,yet its ability to absorb light is limited to the short wavelengths of ultraviolet light. To achieve a more effective photocatalytic material,we have designed two-dimensional semiconductor TiOS materials using swarm intelligence algorithms combined with first-principles calculations.Three stable low-energy structures with space groups of P2_(1)/m,P3m1 and P2_(1)/c are identified.Among these structures, the Janus P3m1 phase is a direct bandgap semiconductor, while the P2_(1)/m and P2_(1)/c phases are indirect bandgap semiconductors.Utilizing the accurate hybrid density functional HSE06 method, the band gaps of the three structures are calculated to be 2.34 eV(P2_(1)/m),2.24 eV(P3m1)and 3.22 eV(P2_(1)/c).Optical calculations reveal that TiOS materials exhibit a good light-harvesting capability in both visible and ultraviolet spectral ranges. Moreover, the photocatalytic calculations also indicate that both P2_(1)/m and P3m1 TiOS can provide a strong driving force for converting H_(2)O to H_(2)and O_(2)in an acidic environment with pH=0.The structural stabilities, mechanical properties, electronic structures and hydrogen evolution reaction activities are also discussed in detail. Our research suggests that two-dimensional TiOS materials have potential applications in both semiconductor devices and photocatalysis.

文摘Gas-liquid flow(GLF),especially slug and annular flows in oil and gas gathering and transportation pipelines, become particularly complex inside elbows and can easily exacerbate pipeline corrosion and damage. In thisstudy,FLUENT was used to conduct 3D simulations of slug and annular flow in elbows for different velocitiesto assess the ensuing changes in terms of pressure. In particular, the multifluid VOF(Volume of Fraction)modelwas chosen. The results indicate that under both slug and annular flow conditions, the pressure inside the elbow islower than the outside. As the superficial velocity of liquid and gas increase, the pressure and liquid flow velocityat different positions of the elbow also increase, while the secondary flow weakens.Under annular flow conditions, the liquid film on the outer side of the elbow is thicker than that on the inner side, and the liquid velocityin the main liquid film zone is the lowest.
