And Pit bull breed showed cornification and stratification of the vaginal mucosa with abundant eosinophilic cytoplasm and regular round nuclei.Conclusions:As the vaginal hyperplasia is a crucial gynaecological problem that affects different breeds of bitches, the current work provides a comprehensive diagnosis of the case and illustrates the surgical interference for its excision.展开更多

We evaluated the prevalence and impact of LBBB on left ventricular mechanics using 2D strain imaging in patients with idiopathic dilated cardiomyopathy (IDCM). Methods: We included 101 patients with IDCM with mean age 38 ± 18 years: 74% were males and 13.9% of them were in NYHA Class III-IV. LBBB was present in 26 (37%) of included patients. Myocardial mechanics including longitudinal, circumferential strain and rotation and LV synchronization were assessed using two-dimensional strain imaging. Results: LBBB group had higher LV volumes, and PAP compared with non LBBB. Peak LV longitudinal systolic strain (εsys) of the septum and global LV SRsys were significantly lower in LBBB compared to non LBBB group (P 0.01, 0.03). TTP-d was greater in LBBB in comparison to non LBBB group (274.5 ± 116 versus 209.4 ± 139, P 0.02). The electromechanical delay between septal segments was 35 ± 18 ms and between lateral wall segments: 48 ± 24 ms, between anterior wall segments: 21 ± 11 and between inferior wall segments: 41 ± 12. Consequently, LV mechanical dyssynchrony was more evident in IDCM patients with LBBB. QRS width was correlated inversely with LV longitudinal strain and strain rate and electromechanical delay (P 0.0001) in non LBBB group. In LBBB QRS width was not related to cardiac mechanics. Using univariate analysis and after a multiple covariate adjustment, the baseline LBBB was associated with a significantly increased LV dysfunction. Conclusion:After correcting for potential confounders, LBBB was found to be associated with more deterioration of LV mechanics and exaggerated LV dyssynchrony in patients with IDCM.展开更多

Objective: To study the effect of adding different concentrations of soybean lecithin in Tris based extender and to compare the results of Tris soybean lecithin extender with two commercial diluents (egg yolk-based: B...Objective: To study the effect of adding different concentrations of soybean lecithin in Tris based extender and to compare the results of Tris soybean lecithin extender with two commercial diluents (egg yolk-based: BullXcell and plant-based: OptiXcell) for Damascus goat sperm cryopreservation. Methods: The ejaculates from 4 mature male Damascus goats were obtained by using an artificial vagina. Semen samples were pooled and diluted in Tris extender supplemented with soybean lecithin at different concentrations of 1.5%, 3.0%, 6.0% and 10.0% to get better concentration to be used for further experiments, with a final concentration of 240×106 spermatozoa/mL. Semen samples were packed in straws (0.25 mL), frozen by using an automated system and stored in liquid nitrogen at -196 ℃ for 48 h. After thawing (37 ℃/30 s), the samples were evaluated for sperm quality parameters, including sperm motility, membrane integrity and acrosome integrity. Malondialdehyde concentration was estimated as a marker for lipid peroxidation. Based on the previous investigations, only Tris extender supplemented with 3.0% soybean lecithin (based on its positive results) was used versus BullXcell and OptiXcell for sperm ultrastructure evaluation and artificial insemination by using electron microscope and artificial insemination of the synchronized does. Results: There was no significant difference between Tris-soybean lecithin at 3.0% and BullXcell/OptiXcell diluents in post-thaw sperm parameters and fertility following artificial insemination;meanwhile, the other concentrations of soybean lecithin (1.5%, 6.0% and 10%) showed lower sperm parameters following cryopreservation. Conclusions: Using of Tris-soybean lecithin based extender at the level of 3.0% can be an appropriate alternative to either BullXcell or OptiXcell for Damascus goat sperm cryopreservation.展开更多
Objective:To evaluate the changes occur in the vagina, cervix and endometrium during the pre- ovulatory period in Arabian mares by using endoscope as a diagnostic tool as well as the availability of taking an endoscop...Objective:To evaluate the changes occur in the vagina, cervix and endometrium during the pre- ovulatory period in Arabian mares by using endoscope as a diagnostic tool as well as the availability of taking an endoscopic biopsy during this stage.Methods:Ten cyclic and healthy arabian mares were subjected to ultrasound scanning of their ovaries to estimate the diameter of the preovulatory follicles, collection of blood samples for estimating the hormonal levels (Estradiol-17β and progestrone) for confirming the estrous phase, endoscopic monitoring their vagina, cervix and endometrium, the availability of taking biopsical samples and histological examination of the obtained samples.Results:The obtained data revealed that, the mean diameter of the preovulatory follicles was (3.95±0.34) cm, the plasma estradiol and progestrone levels were (85.98±5.26) pg/mL and (0.73±0.23) ng/mL, respectively, endoscopic monitoring the vagina, cervix and endometrium revealed hyperemic vaginal mucous membrane, soft and opened cervical ostium with abundant estrous mucous and folding, hyperemic and edematous appearance of the endometrium, respectively and the histological features of the biopsical endometrial samples revealed that, The lamina propria-sub mucosa was packed with simple or branched tubular glands lined with simple columnar epithelium showing oval or rounded dark nuclei with different degrees of secretory activities of the glands.Conclusions: The endoscope proved to be a reliable tool for confirming the estrous phase in mares and monitoring the gross features of the vagina, the cervix and the endometrium, in addition to the availability of taking biopsical smears.展开更多
The objective of this study was to minimize the utilization of chemotherapeutic agents in the treatment of fungal infections in fish,as these agents can adversely impact human and animal health as well as the environm...The objective of this study was to minimize the utilization of chemotherapeutic agents in the treatment of fungal infections in fish,as these agents can adversely impact human and animal health as well as the environment.Nile Tilapia was utilized in this study to assess the efficacy of incorporating garlic and cinnamon into their diet,aiming to enhance their immune systems and provide protection against Saprolegnia,a fungal pathogen that causes substantial economic losses in the fish farming industry.The findings indicated that the inclusion of garlic and cinnamon to the fish’s diet enhanced their immune response and various blood parameters.Specifically,group 4,treated with 1.5% garlic,demonstrated superior outcomes compared to group 5,which received 2% garlic treatment.Additionally,group 6,subjected to 8.5% cinnamon treatment,exhibited superior hematological parameters when compared to group 7,which received 10% cinnamon treatment.Moreover,group 6 displayed the highest phagocytic activity in comparison to the remaining groups.In conclusion,garlic and cinnamon can serve as valuable immunostimulants for managing fungal infections in fish.Their inclusion in the diet enhances the immune response,consequently bolstering the fish’s resistance to fungal infections.展开更多
Vibrionaceae are a common bacterial disease that affects both wild and farmed marine fishes and causes tremendous economic losses globally.In order to investigate the prevalence,molecular typing,antibiogram and pathog...Vibrionaceae are a common bacterial disease that affects both wild and farmed marine fishes and causes tremendous economic losses globally.In order to investigate the prevalence,molecular typing,antibiogram and pathogenicity of vibriosis among cultured sea bream,two hundred and fifty Gilthead seabream(Sparus aurata)were collected randomly from different mariculture farms at Ismailia and Port Said Governorates.The collected fish were subjected to clinical,postmortem,bacteriological,and histopathological examinations.The majority of infected fish displayed ascites,hemorrhagic protruded anus,hemorrhages in pectoral,dorsal and tail fins,rotten gills,thinning of the head,discoloration of the skin,besides ulcer in the mouth and on the skin.The prevalence of Vibrio infection mostly was noticed at summer(35%)and spring(26%)then(22.5%)in autumn,where the kidney was the most predominant affected organ(45%).Vibrio 16s rRNA gene PCR extension generated a 663 pb amplified DNA bands that characteristic for all tested vibrio isolates.Blasting identified as V.harveyi and the other V.parahaemolyticus.The histopathological examination of naturally infected Gilthead seabream exhibited mild to moderate vacuolar degeneration of the hepatic parenchyma with tubular-nephrosis and massive renal cellular destruction.The splenic tissues showed focal activated melanomacrophage centers.The antimicrobial sensitivity was carried out,where the recovered strains were completely sensitive to novobiocin and highly resistant to ampicillin.In conclusion,the synergism of phenotypic and genotypic characterization is a valuable epidemiological tool for the diagnosis of Vibrio species.Strict veterinary hygienic regulations should be imple-mented to control such infections and minimize the antimicrobial use in fish farms.展开更多
