Melilotus indicus is a plant known for its remarkable pharmacological properties and has been traditionally used to treat various pathological conditions.This study explored the phytochemical composition and evaluated...Melilotus indicus is a plant known for its remarkable pharmacological properties and has been traditionally used to treat various pathological conditions.This study explored the phytochemical composition and evaluated the therapeutic potential of M.indica seed extract(MIS)in mitigating lithiasis in Wistar rats.Using LC-MS/MS^(2),the detected metabolites were grouped into hydroxybenzoic acids(2),hydroxycinnamic acids(11),flavones(13),flavonols(13),saponins(10),organic acids(7),fatty acids(9),jasmonates(3),and a sugar.The experimental design included the administration of two MIS doses to rats,followed by the administration of ethylene glycol(0.75%w/v)to induce urolithiasis.The results demonstrated that MIS1(20 mg/kg)and MIS^(2)(40 mg/kg)significantly reduced urinary calcium oxalate crystals by 38.5%and 59.2%,respectively,following ethylene glycol-administration.The results suggested the potential of MIS as a natural diuretic agent for helping to remove crystal debris.The administration of MIS1 and MIS^(2)mitigated the renal oxidative stress induced by ethylene glycol,as evidenced by the reduction in malondialdehyde(MDA)levels(by 29%and 45%,respectively)and the enhancement of antioxidant enzyme markers,with increased activities of SOD(by 20.7%and 37.5%,respectively)and CAT(by 19%for MIS^(2)only).The above results were confirmed by the dosage of plasma parameters markers and histopathological evaluations.展开更多
Due to the side effects of chemical drugs,recent studies have targeted new therapeutic approach using natural bioactive molecules.The purpose of the current study was to explore,for the first time,the cardiopreventive...Due to the side effects of chemical drugs,recent studies have targeted new therapeutic approach using natural bioactive molecules.The purpose of the current study was to explore,for the first time,the cardiopreventive capacity of Eucalyptus torquata seeds extract(ETS)against myocardial infarction induced by Isoproterenol(ISO)in rats.The phytochemical profile was also targeted.The LC-MS/MS analysis revealed the presence of 53 metabolites belonging to hydroxybenzoic acids,lignans,flavonoids,phloroglucinols,oxocins,organic acids,fatty acids,amino acids,and sugars.The in vivo findings showed that ETS supplementation for 28 days significantly attenuated the cardiotoxicity in adult rats by ameliorating the electrocardiographic pattern(ECG),and reducing the activity of LDH,AST,CK-MB,and troponin-T content compared to the infracted group.Furthermore,ETS reduced the cardiac oxidative stress generated by ISO injection via inhibiting lipid peroxidation and ameliorating the activities of enzymatic antioxidants(SOD,and CAT).Additionally,ETS supplementation attenuated the DNA fragmentation and improved the ultrastructural changes in cardiac tissue.The amelioration of the lipid level(TG,TC,LDL-C,and HDL-C),highlighted the antihyperlipidemic action of ETS.The positive effect of the studied extract against ISO-induced cardiac damage could be related to the bioactive compounds,known as effective antioxidant molecules.The current study provides a preliminary pharmacological support for a potential medicinal application of ETS against cardiovascular pathology.展开更多
The present study examined the antilithiasic activity of the hydromethanolic extract of Polygonum maritimum aerial parts(Pm).The chromatographic analysis made it possible to identify 30 compounds,namely gallic acid,(+...The present study examined the antilithiasic activity of the hydromethanolic extract of Polygonum maritimum aerial parts(Pm).The chromatographic analysis made it possible to identify 30 compounds,namely gallic acid,(+)-catechin,three isomers of myricetin deoxyhexoside,quercetin pentoside,and quercitrin as the major molecules.The microscopic and macroscopic observations together with the plasma and urinary parameters as well as the histological analysis revealed that the use of Pm extracts(37.5 and 50 mg/kg)during 15 days significantly improved the elevated pH,hyperoxaluria,hypercalcemia,and decreased the urinary volume,when compared to the ethylene glycol group(EG-group).In addition,the microscopic examination revealed that the large crystals and oxalic aggregates detected in urinary,induced by EG(ethylene glycol),were mitigated by Pm-administration.Furthermore,the Pm supplement significantly restored the levels of urea,uric acid,and creatinine,and also led to a strong diuresis which helped remove crystal debris.These results were reinforced by the histological study.The current study highlighted the potential use of Pm for its remarkable beneficial effect during the various lithogenic stages as well as for improving kidney function.展开更多
