Bone scintigraphy (BS) with 99mTc-HMDP is an excellent means of diagnosis. We report a case of stress fracture of the calcaneus with scintigraphic diagnosis, in a marathon runner. Patient and Methods: He is a 40-year-old athlete in overtraining with right calcaneal pain on running, intense at first, moderate in the middle and then persistent after exercise. The interrogation found no trauma to the right foot and the x-ray of the foot was without abnormality. The so 3 phases were performed following an injection of 564 MBq of 99mTc-HMDP, with a SPECT gamma camera. Results: Bone scintigraphy found in the early phase, hyper-perfusion and hyper-fixation of the right calcaneal region compared to its left counterpart and in the bone phase persistence of focal hyperfixation opposite the right calcaneus. This scintigraphic aspect of the right calcaneus in an overtrained marathon runner, in a painful context and in front of a normal X-ray, made us evoke a fracture of fatigue. A complementary CT scan performed two days after the BS was without abnormality. Conclusion: Fatigue fractures are micro-fractures generally not noticed on radiography and CT. BS due to its high sensitivity is an excellent or the best tool for the early diagnosis of stress fractures. 展开更多

Objectives: This work was carried out in order to determine the profile of different HPV genotypes in a population of women attending radiotherapy (RT). Material and Methods: This is a retrospective study. Sixty paraffin blocks were chosen by simple random method upon 1015 blocks of cervix cancer diagnosed in Senegal’s public hospitals laboratories of anatomopathology. The strains of HPV genotyping were done with polymerase chain reaction (PCR) multiplex using primers MY09-MY11, GP5+ and GP6+. Results: Among the sixty examined blocks, DNA extraction was unsatisfactory in three cases. All women were infected with HPV high risk (HR). The different HPV genotypes isolated were HPV 16 (49/96%), 18 (8/16%), 35 (7/14%), 45 (4/8%), and 58 (2/4%). It was a single infection in 36 cases (70, 60%), co-infection in 11 cases (21, 60%) and a multi-infection in 4 cases (7, 80%). Conclusion: The prevalence of HPV found in our series is comparable to that found in the world. To complete this study, a large population of Senegalese patients with uterine cervix cancer (CC) and HPV genotype, is needed to determine if HPV genotypes could be considered as a prognostic marker in patients with uterine CC after RT. 展开更多

The aim of the study was to evaluate the contribution to moscintigraphy of myocardial perfusion (TSMP) with 99mTc-sestamibi in the management of suspected or known coronary patients’s population. It included 42 patients with an average age of 57.02 ±9.77 years with extremes ranging from 36 to 77 years. The pre-test probability in 38 patients was high in 7 patients (18.42%), intermediate in 29 patients (76.31%) and low in 2 patients (5.26%). Patients with a high pre-test probability had a positive scintigraphy. Among the 26 patients who underwent transthoracic ultrasound (TTU), 10 with normal kinetics on trans-thoracic ultrasound (TTU) had positive scintigraphy. For 16 patients with TTU abnormalities, 6 had negative scintigraphy and 10 had positive scintigraphy. The TSMP was positive for 28 patients (66.66%). Among these patients, 16 had pure ischemia, 57.14% (16/28), 7 pure necrosis (25%), and 5 both necrosis and ischemia. Myocardial perfusion scintigraphy remains a very contributory consideration in the management of coronary disease. This is synchronized with the electrocardiogram (ECG) and is an important diagnostic and prognostic tool for coronary artery disease. It also provides a good indication of coronary angiography. 展开更多

The problems of agriculture in Senegal result in a low yield per hectare and poor seed quality contributing strongly to the decline in productivity. Mutagenesis by X- or Y-ray irradiation makes it possible to obtain genetic mutants necessary to improve production. It is in this context that we undertook this study to evaluate the effects induced on the cultivation of peanut seeds irradiated by X-rays at low doses applied in radiotherapy. X-ray irradiation of four (2, 3, 4, 5) lots of peanuts are performed with respectively 0.5, 1.5, 2 and 4 Gray using the cobalt 60 therapy device (Alcyon II). The seeding of the seeds and then the following-up of the crops during 35 days allowed us to study the parameters of germination, growth and yield. The results obtained after monitoring revealed that the irradiation did not have any significant impact on germination and would appear to temporarily inhibit the growth rate compared to the control batch. However, the decrease in weight of the harvested seeds can be explained by the absence of fertilizer during the cultivation. 展开更多
