This study aims to mitigate crosswind-induced performance degradation in Natural Draft Dry Cooling Towers used in power plants by developing and assessing windbreak configurations that enhance ventilation while minimi...This study aims to mitigate crosswind-induced performance degradation in Natural Draft Dry Cooling Towers used in power plants by developing and assessing windbreak configurations that enhance ventilation while minimizing additional airflow resistance.Three novel windbreak designs,namely single-windbreak configuration with curved profile,double-windbreak configuration with curved profile,and double-windbreak configuration with inverted curved profile,are proposed accordingly and evaluated against conventional solutions.Three-dimensional numerical models of a 120 m high NDDCT equipped with these windbreaks,together with a conventional Y-shaped windbreak,are developed for systematic comparison.The results demonstrate that windbreak effectiveness strongly depends on crosswind intensity.At low crosswind speeds of 0-6 m/s,the Y-shaped windbreak provides the greatest enhancement,increasing the ventilation rate by 25.45%and the heat rejection rate by 21.37%at 6 m/s compared with the no-windbreak configuration.In contrast,under moderate to strong crosswinds of 6-18 m/s,the single-windbreak configuration with curved profile exhibits superior performance.At 18 m/s,it increases the ventilation rate by 148.88%and the heat rejection rate by 79.74%relative to the baseline case,outperforming the Y-shaped windbreak by 26.59%in ventilation rate and 17.01%in heat rejection capacity.Analysis of airflow structure,temperature fields,and velocity distributions confirms that the single-windbreak configuration with curved profile more effectively suppresses crosswind penetration and promotes stable upward airflow at higher wind speeds.Based on a comprehensive assessment of aerodynamic and thermal performance,the Y-shaped windbreak is recommended for regions where crosswind speeds remain below 6 m/s,whereas the single-windbreak configuration with curved profile is preferable for sites exposed to stronger crosswinds exceeding this threshold.展开更多
How ecological and evolutionary factors affect small mammal diversity in arid regions remains largely unknown.Here,we combined the largest phylogeny and occurrence dataset of Gerbillinae desert rodents to explore the ...How ecological and evolutionary factors affect small mammal diversity in arid regions remains largely unknown.Here,we combined the largest phylogeny and occurrence dataset of Gerbillinae desert rodents to explore the underlying factors shaping present-day distribution patterns.In particular,we analyzed the relative contributions of ecological and evolutionary factors on their species diversity using a variety of models.Additionally,we inferred the ancestral range and possible dispersal scenarios and estimated the diversification rate of Gerbillinae.We found that Gerbillinae likely originated in the Horn of Africa in the Middle Miocene and then dispersed and diversified across arid regions in northern and southern Africa and western and central Asia,forming their current distribution pattern.Multiple ecological and evolutionary factors jointly determine the spatial pattern of Gerbillinae diversity,but evolutionary factors(evolutionary time and speciation rate)and habitat filtering were the most important in explaining the spatial variation in species richness.Our study enhances the understanding of the diversity patterns of small mammals in arid regions and highlights the importance of including evolutionary factors when interpreting the mechanisms underlying large-scale species diversity patterns.展开更多
Accurate purchase prediction in e-commerce critically depends on the quality of behavioral features.This paper proposes a layered and interpretable feature engineering framework that organizes user signals into three ...Accurate purchase prediction in e-commerce critically depends on the quality of behavioral features.This paper proposes a layered and interpretable feature engineering framework that organizes user signals into three layers:Basic,Conversion&Stability(efficiency and volatility across actions),and Advanced Interactions&Activity(crossbehavior synergies and intensity).Using real Taobao(Alibaba’s primary e-commerce platform)logs(57,976 records for 10,203 users;25 November–03 December 2017),we conducted a hierarchical,layer-wise evaluation that holds data splits and hyperparameters fixed while varying only the feature set to quantify each layer’s marginal contribution.Across logistic regression(LR),decision tree,random forest,XGBoost,and CatBoost models with stratified 5-fold cross-validation,the performance improvedmonotonically fromBasic to Conversion&Stability to Advanced features.With LR,F1 increased from 0.613(Basic)to 0.962(Advanced);boosted models achieved high discrimination(0.995 AUC Score)and an F1 score up to 0.983.Calibration and precision–recall analyses indicated strong ranking quality and acknowledged potential dataset and period biases given the short(9-day)window.By making feature contributions measurable and reproducible,the framework complements model-centric advances and offers a transparent blueprint for production-grade behavioralmodeling.The code and processed artifacts are publicly available,and future work will extend the validation to longer,seasonal datasets and hybrid approaches that combine automated feature learning with domain-driven design.展开更多
