BACKGROUND Middle meningeal artery embolization(MMAE)is emerging as a promising treatment for chronic subdural hematoma(CSDH),serving both as an adjunct to surgery and as a primary therapeutic option depending on pati...BACKGROUND Middle meningeal artery embolization(MMAE)is emerging as a promising treatment for chronic subdural hematoma(CSDH),serving both as an adjunct to surgery and as a primary therapeutic option depending on patient presentation.Due to its low recurrence rate and minimal complications,MMAE has gained increasing acceptance among clinicians in recent years.This report presents a case of diplopia following MMAE due to the presence of a potential anastomotic artery,aiming to enhance awareness of this complication.CASE SUMMARY A 60-year-old male patient presented with a headache following head trauma,and cranial computed tomography revealed a left-sided CSDH.The patient underwent left MMAE;however,polyvinyl alcohol particles inadvertently flowed into the lacrimal artery through an anastomotic artery,resulting in diplopia due to impaired abduction of the left eye.The diplopia resolved by postoperative day 40.The patient’s headache resolved by postoperative day 7,and the hematoma completely resolved by postoperative day 108.CONCLUSION Potential anastomotic arteries in the middle meningeal artery(MMA)can lead to serious complications.Superselective angiography of the MMA or its branches prior to embolization is essential.Performing embolization distal to potential anastomotic sites can reduce risks,and the presence of an anastomosis may warrant coil embolization or termination of the procedure.展开更多

We demonstrate a reinforcement learning(RL)-based control framework for optimizing evaporative cooling in the preparation of strongly interacting degenerate Fermi gases of 6Li.Using a Soft Actor-Critic(SAC)algorithm,t...We demonstrate a reinforcement learning(RL)-based control framework for optimizing evaporative cooling in the preparation of strongly interacting degenerate Fermi gases of 6Li.Using a Soft Actor-Critic(SAC)algorithm,the system autonomously explores a high-dimensional parameter space to learn optimal cooling trajectories.Compared to conventional exponential ramps,our method achieves up to 130%improvement in atomic density within 0.5 second,revealing non-trivial control strategies that balance fast evaporation and thermalization.While our current optimization focuses on the evaporation stage,future integration of other cooling stages,such as gray molasses cooling,could further extend RL to the full preparation pipeline.Our result highlights the promise of RL as a general tool for closed-loop quantum control and automated calibration in complex atomic physics experiments.展开更多

Autophagy is a conserved process that keeps the quality of organelles and proteostasis. The role of autophagy in oligodendrocyte lineage cells remains unclear. The present study shows that autophagy is required to maintain the number of OPCs/OLs and myelin integrity during brain aging. Inactivation of autophagy in oligodendrocyte lineage cells increases the number of OPCs/OLs in the developing brain while exaggerating the loss of OPCs/OLs with brain aging. Inactivation of autophagy in oligodendrocyte lineage cells impairs the turnover of myelin basic protein (MBP). It causes MBP to accumulate in the cytoplasm as multimeric aggregates and fails to be incorporated into integral myelin, which is associated with attenuated endocytic recycling. Inactivation of autophagy in oligodendrocyte lineage cells impairs myelin integrity and causes demyelination. Single-phase high-entropy carbides(HECs)are emerging as promising electrocatalysts for the hydrogen evolution reaction(HER)due to their widely tunable electronic configurations and the synergistic effects of multimeta...Single-phase high-entropy carbides(HECs)are emerging as promising electrocatalysts for the hydrogen evolution reaction(HER)due to their widely tunable electronic configurations and the synergistic effects of multimetallic sites.However,their controllable synthesis and mechanistic understanding remain significant challenges due to the thermodynamic immiscibility of the multi-metallic elements within the carbide structure.In this study,we demonstrate the first successful synthesis of single-phase HECs based on Mo and W systems through an innovative high-entropy design strategy.Guided by comprehensive thermodynamic predictions,the single-phase solid solution formation temperatures were determined for the HEC-n(n=2-9)series of high-entropy carbides.We achieved the configurational-entropy driven formation of HEC nanoparticles containing 4-9 transition metal elements via an ultra-fast joule heating process(i.e.,(TiZrHfVNbTaCrWMo)C).Through rapid synthesis and screening,we obtained(VNbCrWMo)C nanoparticles exhibiting the best HER activities and exceptional longterm stability over 168 h due to high-entropy composition design and synthesis strategies,outperforming unary,binary,ternary,quaternary carbides and carbides with more than six metallic elements.Theoretical calculations and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy analysis reveal that the(VNbCrWMo)C high-entropy carbide achieves enhanced HER activity through multi-metallic synergy,where constituent elements cooperatively redistribute electron density at catalytic sites.This work provides a new pathway for the rational design of advanced metal carbide electrocatalysts,highlighting the potential of high-entropy effects in tailoring material properties for energy conversion applications.展开更多
