The rising prevalence of impaired wound healing and the consequential healthcare burdens have gained increased attention over recent years.This has prompted research into the development of novel wound dressings with augmented wound healing functions.Nanoparticle(NP)-based delivery systems have become attractive candidates in constructing such wound dressings due to their various favourable attributes.The non-toxicity,biocompatibility and bioactivity of chitosan(CS)-based NPs make them ideal candidates for wound applications.This review focusses on the application of CS-based NP systems for use in wound treatment.An overview of the wound healing process was presented,followed by discussion on the properties and suitability of CS and its NPs in wound healing.The wound healing mechanisms exerted by CS-based NPs were then critically analysed and discussed in sections,namely haemostasis,infection prevention,inflammatory response,oxidative stress,angiogenesis,collagen deposition,and wound closure time.The results of the studieswere thoroughly reviewed,and contradicting findings were identified and discussed.Based on the literature,the gap in research and future prospects in this research area were identified and highlighted.Current evidence shows that CS-based NPs possess superior wound healing effects either used on their own,or as drug delivery vehicles to encapsulate wound healing agents.It is concluded that great opportunities and potentials exist surrounding the use of CSNPs in wound healing. 展开更多

Curzerenone(C15H18O2)is an oxygenated sesquiterpenoid predominantly identified in several Curcuma species(Zingiberaceae),a genus widely recognized for its phytochemical diversity and pharmacological relevance.Increasing experimental evidence indicates that curzerenone exhibits broad-spectrum biological activities,including antioxidant,pro-oxidant,anti-inflammatory,pro-apoptotic,antiviral,and antimicrobial effects.In chemical assays,it demonstrates radical-scavenging properties,whereas in cellular systems it may promote reactive oxygen species(ROS)generation and mitochondrial dysfunction,contributing to apoptosis.These bio-logical effects have been associated with modulation of key signalling pathways,including MAPK,NF-κB,and JAK/STAT cascades.Emerging studies also suggest potential interactions with bacterial enzymatic targets and reported antiviral activity,although mechanistic validation remains limited.Despite these promising findings,current evidence is largely restricted to preclinical investigations and re-mains fragmented across different experimental models.A critical integrative evaluation of curzerenone chemistry,metabolism,molecular mechanisms,and translational feasibility is still lacking.This review provides a comprehensive and structured synthesis of available data,highlights methodological limitations and knowl-edge gaps,and outlines future research directions necessary to support the rational development of curzerenone as a potential therapeutic scaffold,nutraceutical and functional food applications. 展开更多

In this study,the effect of conventional roasting and the photo-oxidative stability of two cold-pressed peanut oil varieties(Virginia and Valencia)were investigated.Changes in the concentrations of the fatty acids(including trans isomers),minor components,nutritional quality,and antioxidant capacity were analyzed and compared.The evolution of the oxidation status was measured by peroxide value(PV),acid value(AV),p-anisidine value(p-AnV),UV-spectrophotometric indexes(E232 and E270),total oxidation value(TOTOX),and browning index(BI).Results showed a slight change in AV,while relevant primary and secondary lipid oxidation was detected,leading to an increase in PV,p-AnV,as well as E232 and E270 indexes during roasting and photo-oxidation.Furthermore,exposure to UV light resulted in a remarkable degradation of tocopherol(71.67-100%),while phytosterols were reduced by 0.16-6.68%.Roasting,on the other hand,resulted in a significant increase(p<0.05)in the content of phytosterols,tocopherols,chlorophyll,and carotenoid as well as antioxidant activity in peanut oil.In addition,Maillard reaction products(estimated by BI)also increased with roasting;afterward,these compounds gradually declined with UV light exposure.As for the fatty acid profile and nutritional indicators,a noticeable difference was observed between unroasted and roasted peanut oils throughout photo-oxidation. 展开更多

Biocontrol strain Pseudomonas PA1201 produces pyoluteorin(Plt),which is an antimicrobial secondary metabolite.Plt represents a promising candidate pesticide due to its broad-spectrum antifungal and antibacterial activity.Although PA1201 contains a complete genetic cluster for Plt biosynthesis,it fails to produce detectable level of Plt when grown in media typically used for Pseudomonas strains.In this study,minimum medium(MM)was found to favor Plt biosynthesis.Using the medium M,which contains all the salts of MM medium except for mannitol,as a basal medium,we compared 10 carbon sources for their ability to promote Plt biosynthesis.Fructose,mannitol,and glycerol promoted Plt biosynthesis,with fructose being the most effective carbon source.Glucose or succinic acid had no significant effect on Plt biosynthesis,but effectively antagonized fructose-dependent synthesis of Plt.Promoter-lacZ fusion reporter strains demonstrated that fructose acted through activation of the pltLABCDEFG(pltL)operon but had no effect on other genes of plt gene cluster;glucose or succinic acid antagonized fructose-dependent pltL induction.Mechanistically,fructose-mediated Plt synthesis involved carbon catabolism repression.The two-component system CbrA/CbrB and small RNA catabolite repression control Z(crcZ)were essential for fructose-induced Plt synthesis.The small RNA binding protein Hfq and Crc negatively regulated fructose-induced Plt.Taken together,this study provides a new model of fructose-dependent Plt production in PA1201 that can help improve Plt yield by biosynthetic approaches. 展开更多

This study investigates almond oil parameters such as yield,fatty acids,peroxide value,and antioxidant activity over a 12-month storage period.Despite stable oil yields due to almond shells’protective properties,there are increases in free fatty acids and peroxide values,indicating oxidation.Iodine values mostly align with norms,but some exceed limits.Chlorophyll decreases while carotenoids increase during storage,possibly due to chlorophyll degradation.Oleic acid remains predominant in fatty acid composition,distinguishing sweet and bitter almonds.Alpha-tocopherol prevails,with storage affecting gamma and beta tocopherol.Polyphenol content decreases over time,differing between almond types.DPPH and ABTS tests reflect antioxidant activity changes similarly.Bitter almonds yield higher extraction yields and phenolic compounds.Principal Component Analysis(PCA)elucidates variable relationships.Almond oil samples are classified into three groups based on quality and antioxidant properties.CHAID analysis emphasizes DPPH’s importance in distinguishing samples and its correlation with Total Phenolic Compounds(TPC),enhancing comprehension of almond oil’s chemical composition and antioxidant properties. 展开更多

This research work explores the nutritional composition of three varieties of Ficus carica dried fruits.For such a task,the phenolic profile of their hydromethanolic extracts was evaluated along with their in vitro antioxidant,antidiabetic,and anti-inflammatory effects.The proximate analysis showed that the three dried fruits are a valuable source of vegetal oil(2.46-2.52 g/100 g),proteins(2.64-3.33 g/100 g),carbohydrates(84.21-86.07 g/100 g),and energy(372.04-377.00 kcal/100 g).Fatty acids composition revealed that dried fruits studied are rich in polyunsaturated fatty acids with a percentage of 37.89±0.51%,followed by saturated fatty acids(31.30±0.61%),and monounsaturated fatty acids(31.4±1.22%).Furthermore,mineral analysis indicated the presence of potassium(7922.54-10672.19 mg/kg),sulfur(4668-5788.72 mg/kg),calcium(3368.88-3939.64 mg/kg),magnesium(1015.48-1169.11 mg/kg),and phosphorus(838.20-868.65 mg/kg).LC-PDA/ESI-MS analysis revealed the presence of seven phenolic compounds with rutin as the most abundant compound(0.130-0.162 mg/g).Experimental antioxidant tests showed that hydromethanolic extracts have significant antioxidant activity with an IC_(50) values between 219±2.7-307±0.48μg/mL for FRAP,537±1.88-821±1.46μg/mL forβ-carotene bleaching,724±0.1-977±2.36μg/mL for ABTS,and 847±0.04-1214±0.23μg/mL for DPPH tests.Likewise,the inhibition of antidiabetic and anti-inflammatory enzymes was significantly exerted by their hydromethanolic extracts.Based on the results achieved,Ficus carica fruits may be considered as a valuable source of nutrients making them an interesting functional food. 展开更多
