The specific surface area of the ACF was 600 m 2/g, 1400 m 2/g and 1600 m 2/g, respectively, and the concentration of trichloroethylene ranged from 270 mg/m 3 to 2700 mg/m 3. Results showed that the capacity of adsorption increased with increasing specific surface area, the relationship between the logarithms of 10% breakthrough time and concentration was approximately linear over the experimental range, the breakthrough time decreased with increasing temperature and humidity. The breakthrough curves at different inlet concentration or different temperature can be predicted by several simple theoretical models with good agreements.展开更多

In this paper, poly (butylene succinate) (PBS) and poly (butylene adipate/terephthalate) (PBAT) were used as matrix, rice hull powder and wollastonite as filler, diphenyl methane diisocyanate (MDI) and silane coupling...In this paper, poly (butylene succinate) (PBS) and poly (butylene adipate/terephthalate) (PBAT) were used as matrix, rice hull powder and wollastonite as filler, diphenyl methane diisocyanate (MDI) and silane coupling agent KH550 as crosslinking agents, and a series of composites were prepared by melt blending method. The effects of different coupling agents and dosage on composites were explored. It was characterized by universal mechanical testing machine and melt flow rate meter. The results showed that with the addition of PBAT and filler, the tensile strength of the composites decreased, while the notched impact strength of the composites increased in different degrees compared with that of pure PBS. MDI is more effective than KH550 in increasing melt viscosity.展开更多

The emphasis is focused on the high power single and 2-D arrays bottom-emitting VCSELs with a wavelength of 980nm. A distinguished device performance is achieved. The maximum continuous-wave (CW) output power of large aperture single devices with active diameters up to 500μm is as high as 1.95W at room temperature, which is to our knowledge the highest value reported for a single device. Size dependence of the output power, the threshold current and the differential resistance are discussed. A 16 elements array with 200μm aperture size (250μm center spacing) of individual elements shows a CW output power of 1.32W at room temperature.展开更多

Yet st...Background Chronic heart failure (CHF) is associated with calcium transients and calcium handling proteins. Angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitor has been demonstrated to have beneficial effect on CHF. Yet studies addressed to the relationship between ACE inhibitor and calcium transients in CHF are rare. The aim of this study was to investigate the influence of ACE inhibitor (perindopril) on the contractility and calcium transients and calcium handling proteins in ventricular myocytes from rats with experimental heart failure.Methods Male Wistar rats were randomized to heart failure group treated with perindopril (CHF-T, 3 mg·kg -1 ·d -1 ), heart failure group without treatment (CHF-C) and sham-operated group (PS). Heart failure was induced by abdominal aortic constriction. All groups were further followed up for 12 weeks. Left ventricular myocytes were then isolated. Single cell shortening fraction and [Ca 2+ ]_i were simultaneously measured by laser scanning confocal microscope under the field stimulation (1.0 Hz). Reverse transcriptase-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) and Western blot were performed to evaluate the changes of mRNA and protein of Na +-Ca 2+ exchanger (NCX_1), sarcoplasmic reticulum Ca 2+ -ATPase (SERCA_2) and phospholamban (PLB).Results The fraction of cell shortening (FS%) and [Ca 2+ ]_ imax (nmol/L) were significantly reduced in group CHF-C compared with group PS (FS%: 7.51±1.15 vs 13.21±1.49;[Ca 2+ ]_ imax :330.85±50.05 vs 498.16±14.07; both P <0.01), and restored at least partially in CHF-T group. In CHF-C group, the left ventricular mRNA of NCX_1 and PLB were significantly upregulated in comparing with PS group (R_ NCX1/β-Actin : 0.51±0.12 vs 0.19±0.06, P <0.01; R_ PLB/β-Actin : 0.26±0.12 vs 0.20±0.08, P <0.05), while SERCA_2 mRNA was downregulated (0.48±0.10 vs 0.80±0.11, P <0.01). The mRNA levels of NCX_1 and SERCA_2 in CHF-T group were between the CHF-C and PS group, and the differences of the latter two groups were significant (all P <0.05). In CHF-C and CHF-T groups, the protein expression of NCX_1 were 1.141±0.047 and 1.074±0.081 times of that in PS group respectively (both P <0.05), and SERCA_2 protein levels were 0.803±0.100 and 0.893±0.084 times of that in PS group respectively (both P <0.05). The protein expression of NCX_1 and SERCA_2 in the CHF-C and CHF-T groups is significantly different (both P <0.05).ConclusionACE inhibitor could improve cardiac function of failing heart through directly enhancing the contractility of single cardiomyocyte, and these effects are probably mediated by its roles in preventing the deleterious changes of calcium transients and calcium handling proteins in CHF.展开更多
Objective: To detail our early experi- ence and technique of a modified two-stage reimplantation protocol using antibiotic-loaded articulating cement spac- ers (ALACSs) for treatment of late periprosthetic infectio...Objective: To detail our early experi- ence and technique of a modified two-stage reimplantation protocol using antibiotic-loaded articulating cement spac- ers (ALACSs) for treatment of late periprosthetic infection after total knee arthroplasty (TKA). Methods: From January 2006 to February 2009, a series of 21 patients (21 knees) with late infected TKAs were treated by radical debridement and removal of all components and cement, and then articulating spacers were implanted using antibiotic-impregnated bone cement. For this purpose, 4 g vancomycin powder was mixed with per 40 g cement. Gradu- ated knee motion and partial weight bearing activity were encouraged in the interval period. Each patient received an individual systemic organism-sensitive antimicrobial therapy for 4.9 (range, 2-8) weeks followed by a second-stage TKA revision. All the patients were regularly followed up using the American Knee Society Scoring System. Results: Each case underwent a successful two-stage exchange and had infection eradicated, none had recurrent infection after an average of 32.2 (range, 17-54) months of follow-up. Preoperatively, the mean knee score was 53.5 points, function score was 27.3 points, pain score was 25.7 points, range of motion (ROM) was 82.0°, extensor lag was 2°. Between stages, the mean knee score was increased to 61.3 points, function score to 45 points, pain score to 35 points, ROM to 88.2°, and extensor lag to 3.4°. At final fol- low-up, the mean knee score was further increased to 82.1 points, function score to 74.5 points, pain score to 42.1 points, ROM to 94.3°, and knee extension lag to 1.9°. The interval period was 11.5 (range, 6-32) weeks. The amount of bone loss was unchanged between stages. No patient de- veloped noticeable dysfunction of the liver or kidney or other complications such as impaired wound healing, deep venous thrombosis, pulmonary embolism, cerebrovascular accidents, etc. Conclusions: Treating infected TKA with ALACS avoids spacer-related bone loss, preserves knee function between stages, and eradicates infection effectively with- out significant complications. The early clinical results are inspiring. The authors believe that radical and repeated (if needed) debridement, individual application of systemic antibiotics, and reasonable timing judgement upon the sec- ondary revision are all key factors related to a successful outcome with two-stage reimplantation procedure for in- fected TKA.展开更多

Guinea pigs were distributed into 6 groups including control group (g1), and...To investigate the glutamate-like immunoreactivity (Glu-IR) changes in inner hair cells (IHCs) of guinea pigs cochlear after noise exposure. Guinea pigs were distributed into 6 groups including control group (g1), and groups of immediately (g2), 8 hours (g3), 1 day (g4), 3 days (g5) and 7days (g6) after noise exposure. The experimental groups were exposed to 120 dBLp 1/3 octave 4 kHz narrow band noise for 4 hours to ruin the organ of Corti. The first turn of the organ of Corti was dissected to make ultrathin sections and under went immunoelectron study. The density of gold particles of Glu-IR in IHCs was measured. Results showed that Glu-IR in IHCs after noise exposure changed dynamically. The density of gold particle in IHCs of g2 significantly increased (p < 0.001) compared with gl and decreased in g3 (p < 0.001), whereas there were no significant difference in the groups of g4, g5 and g6 (p > 0.05). The results suggest that there may be glutamate autoreceptors in the membrane of IHCs and the glutamate released from pre-synapse may act on these autoreceptors in a postitive feedback manner, which induced [Ca2+] increased in IHCs immediately after noise exposure. Glutamate synthetase system was activated by Ca2+ and more glutamic acid was produced. In the group of 8 hours after noise exposure, glutamic acid decreased in IHCs because of its over-releasing into synapses. Glu-IR's recovery to normal level indicated that the glutamate-glutamine cycle may exist in guinea pig cochlea.展开更多
