This study examines the variations in noise levels across various subway lines in Singapore and three other cities,and provides a detailed overview of the trends and factors influencing subway noise.Most of the equivalent sound pressure level(Leq)in typical subway cabins across the Singapore subway lines are below 85 dBA,with some notable exceptions.These variations in noise levels are influenced by several factors,including rolling stock structure,track conditions and environmental and aerodynamic factors.The spectrogram analysis indicates that the cabin noise is mostly concentrated below the frequency of 1,000 Hz.This study also analyzes cabin noise in subway systems in Suzhou,Seoul,and Tokyo to allow for broader comparisons.It studies the impact of factors such as stock materials,track conditions including the quality of the rails,the presence of curves or irregularities,and maintenance frequency on cabin noise. 展开更多

燃气轮机高温载荷使带叶薄壁鼓筒转子发生严重的碰摩故障,阐明其动力学特性对避免此类故障具有重要意义.本文建立了高温热载荷下带叶薄壁鼓筒转子热弹耦合动力学模型.根据实际的热场分析结果,获得了鼓筒内轴径向耦合温度解析函数,并推... 燃气轮机高温载荷使带叶薄壁鼓筒转子发生严重的碰摩故障,阐明其动力学特性对避免此类故障具有重要意义.本文建立了高温热载荷下带叶薄壁鼓筒转子热弹耦合动力学模型.根据实际的热场分析结果,获得了鼓筒内轴径向耦合温度解析函数,并推导出此转子系统的运动微分方程.通过固有频率对比和碰摩响应分析,验证了动力学模型及其求解方法的准确性.本文重点开展了高温热载荷下带叶鼓筒转子系统碰摩动力学特性分析,揭示出燃气轮机的轴径向耦合热效应:高温热载荷从涡轮处鼓筒外表面向内表面传递,再沿鼓筒轴向传递至压缩机内表面,最后从压缩机内表面传递至其外表面.此现象是由燃气轮机中特殊的高温载荷引起,诱发轴向和径向耦合热梯度,可致使叶片发生碰摩故障.燃气轮机排气温度的升高将加剧轴径向耦合热效应,导致更严重的叶片碰摩现象,但在鼓筒内表面引入低温边界条件可以削弱这种热效应的不良影响. 展开更多

The present experimental study investigates shock wave mitigation capability of potentially new personal protective equipment(PPE) suspension pads made from polyurea and shear thickening fluid(STF).The shock tube test results show that when placed behind Twaron fabric systems with thickness ranging from 2 mm to 18 mm, the replacement of conventional flexible foam pad with STF and STF-infused foam pads with the same thickness of 20 mm greatly reduces the normalized peak pressure(by about 72% for each pad). However, this benefit is partially offset by a large increase in the normalized impulse(by about78% for the STF pad and 131% for the STF-infused foam pad) which may cause the shock wave mitigation performance of these two pads to become less effective. Interestingly, the use of 4 mm thick polyurea pad can greatly reduce the normalized peak pressure and impulse as well(by about 74% and 49%, respectively). These results reveal that among the potentially new suspension pads tested, the polyurea pad displays the best shock wave mitigation performance. Therefore, polyurea has potential for use as a suspension pad in personal protective equipment requiring shock wave mitigation capability such as fabric ballistic vests, bomb suits and combat helmets. 展开更多

A clonal selection based memetic algorithm is proposed for solving job shop scheduling problems in this paper. In the proposed algorithm, the clonal selection and the local search mechanism are designed to enhance exploration and exploitation. In the clonal selection mechanism, clonal selection, hypermutation and receptor edit theories are presented to construct an evolutionary searching mechanism which is used for exploration. In the local search mechanism, a simulated annealing local search algorithm based on Nowicki and Smutnicki's neighborhood is presented to exploit local optima. The proposed algorithm is examined using some well-known benchmark problems. Numerical results validate the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm. 展开更多

The sound absorption and sound transmission loss performances of the natural woods,hard and soft processed woods with attachment of the various natural orwastematerials were investigated in the present study using impedance tube with American Society for Testing Material(ASTM)standards.The sound absorption performances of all natural and all hard processed woods were very poor.It was found that filter mat made by the coconut fibre was the best material for sound absorption improvement of the hard processed woods.The sound absorption performance of the soft processed wood(cork)was better than all natural and all hard processed woods.Among all tested woods,it was found that the cork with attached tea bag made by corn fibre is the best selection for sound absorption application.The transmission loss performances of all natural woods were good.The effects of various materials on the transmission loss performances of all hard processed woods were not very significant.For cork with and without attachment of various materials,their transmission loss performances were not as good as the hard processed woods.Among all tested woods,it was found that Pterocarpus soyauxii and Quercus spp.(natural woods)are the best woods to be used in those applications when prevention of sound transmission is needed.It is recommended that cork is the best wood to be used in those applications where sound absorption and prevention of sound transmission are needed at the same time due to its good sound absorption performance while its ability on prevention of the sound transmission is also acceptable. 展开更多

Evaluation of Nasal Functions While Wearing N95 Respirator and Surgical Facemask

There is a lack of reported studies on how the long duration wearing of N95 respirators or surgical facemasks will affect the upper airway functions. Considering the frequency of mask wearing especially in hospitals and during an outbreak of influenza, it is essential to have such data documented. Therefore, the current study is to establish the effect of long duration wearing of N95 and surgical facemasks on upper airway functions. 47 staffs of National University Hospital Singapore in 2013 were recruited. Each of the volunteers wore both N95 respirator and surgical facemask for 3 hours on two different days. During the period of mask wearing, relative airflow rates were recorded. Smell function test was carried out before and after mask wearing. The results show that no significant change of smell test score was found after removal of both the two types of masks. With N95 respirator, more air was breathed into the upper airways compared to surgical facemask. 展开更多
