Swells are critical concerns regarding safety,marine transportation,and coastal engineering construction of coastal countries along the Gulf of Guinea and have been scientific problems due to the lack of systematic th...Swells are critical concerns regarding safety,marine transportation,and coastal engineering construction of coastal countries along the Gulf of Guinea and have been scientific problems due to the lack of systematic theoretical,numerical,and observational research.In this study,a double nesting numerical model was constructed and validated from the Atlantic Ocean to the Gulf of Guinea based on simulating waves nearshore(SWAN)to explore the swell characteristics and source tracing in the Gulf of Guinea in winter and summer seasons from 2020 to 2021.Simulation results reveal that swells are stronger and deflect more to the west in winter than summer,even though they dominate in both seasons in the Gulf of Guinea in the S-SW directional range.Simulated two-dimensional(2D)wave spectral patterns not only clarify wave composition,variation,and propagation properties from the central South Atlantic Ocean to the Gulf of Guinea,but also distinguish swell strength and directional range in winter and summer.The NW wind events induce swells which spread toward the SSE-ESE direction from the North Atlantic Ocean,big wind source generates sustained and stable S-SW swells from the South Atlantic Ocean,and corresponding swell-influenced areas are discussed.The strongest swell event in the Gulf of Guinea during the simulation was used as a case study to trace its source.A strong clockwise wind vortex within the Roaring Forties induced these large swells in the Gulf of Guinea approximately 5.5 days later,and swell propagation formed a regular isoline of peak period distribution from the South Atlantic Ocean to the Gulf of Guinea in the SSW-SW direction.展开更多
There remains growing interest in magnesium(Mg)and its alloys,as they are the lightest structural metallic materials and potential metallic biomaterials.In spite of the greatest historical Mg usage at present,the wide...There remains growing interest in magnesium(Mg)and its alloys,as they are the lightest structural metallic materials and potential metallic biomaterials.In spite of the greatest historical Mg usage at present,the wider use of Mg alloys remains restricted by the poor corrosion resistance.A nano amorphous film,as the composition of Al2O3,had now been deposited on the AZ31 Mg alloy substrate by atomic layer deposition(ALD).Grazing incidence X-ray diffraction(GIXRD),X-ray reflectivity(XRR),X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS),atomic force microscope(AFM)and scanning electron microscopy(SEM)had been employed to identify the chemical compositions,microstructure and Al2O3/Mg interface of specimens firstly.Then corrosion behavior had been evaluated by neutral salt spray test and electrochemical measurement.The results showed that nano amorphous film made a homogeneous cover on Mg alloy.The film could improve the corrosion resistance of Mg alloy greatly,not only with a positive shift in Ecorr and a decrease in icorr,but also with a more uniform corroded mode.Furthermore,the roughness was found to be an important factor for corrosion resistant,in the way that rougher surface was corroded worse,and greater improvement would be in corrosion resistant after nano amorphous film deposition.展开更多
Indonesian offshore and coastal areas are vulnerable to swells from Roaring Forties and cyclone disasters.However,the understanding of the characteristics and propagation mechanisms of local disastrous waves is insuff...Indonesian offshore and coastal areas are vulnerable to swells from Roaring Forties and cyclone disasters.However,the understanding of the characteristics and propagation mechanisms of local disastrous waves is insufficient,posing a threat to the construction,maintenance,and protection of coastal structures.This study establishes a multiple nested wave model based on the third-generation wave model WAVEWATCHⅢ.This model includes sole forcing of Roaring Forties and combined forcing of Roaring Forties and cyclone Ernie to simulate the influence of disastrous waves under the Roaring Forties and tropical cyclones in the Indonesian offshore zone and coasts.The following results are obtained.The Indonesian offshore is prevailed by relatively stable southern to southwestern dominant swells and small wind waves under the impacts of the Roaring Forties without cyclone winds.Long propagating swells originated from the Roaring Forties dominate in nearshore coastal waters with deformed directions and strength because of the shoaling effect.展开更多
