Rapid screening of inorganic arsenic(iAs)in groundwater used for drinking by hundreds of millions of mostly rural residents worldwide is crucial for health protection.Most commercial field test kits are based on the G...Rapid screening of inorganic arsenic(iAs)in groundwater used for drinking by hundreds of millions of mostly rural residents worldwide is crucial for health protection.Most commercial field test kits are based on the Gutzeit reaction that uses mercury-based reagents for color development,an environmental concern that increasingly limits its utilization.This study further improves the Molybdenum Blue(MB)colorimetric method to allow for faster screening with more stable reagents.More importantly,a portable three-channel colorimeter is developed for screening iAs relative to the WHO drinking water guideline value(10μg/L).Adding the reducing reagents in sequence not only prolongs the storage time to>7 days,but also accelerates the color development time to 6 min in conjunction with lowering the H_(2)SO_(4) concentration in chromogenic reagents.The optimal pH ranges from 1.2 to 1.3 and is achieved by acidifying groundwater to 1%(V/V)HCl.With detection limits of 3.7μg/L for inorganic arsenate(iAs(V))and 3.8μg/L for inorganic arsenite(iAs(Ⅲ)),testing groundwater with-10μg/L of As has a precision<20%.The method works well for a range of phosphate concentrations of 48-950μg/L(0.5-10μmol/L).Concentrations of total_iAs(6-300μg/L),iAs(V)(6-230μg/L)and iAs(Ⅲ)(0-170μg/L)for 14 groundwater samples from Yinchuan Plain,Pearl River Delta,and Jianghan Plain,are in excellent agreements(linear regression slope:0.969-1.029)with the benchmark methods.The improved chemistry here lays the foundation for the MB colorimetric method to become a commercially viable screening tool,with further engineering and design improvement of the colorimeter.展开更多

However, the role of taurine and its transporter in hearing is not clear. Here, we report that dEAAT2 is required for the larval startle response to sound stimuli. d EAAT2 was found to be enriched in the distal region of chordotonal neurons where sound transduction occurs. The Ca2+imaging and electrophysiological results showed that disrupted dEAAT2 expression significantly reduced the response of chordotonal neurons to sound.More importantly, expressing d EAAT2 in the chordotonal neurons rescued these mutant phenotypes. Typical methods are challenged by the requirement on degrees of polarization(Do Ps) of both target light and backscattering. A polarization descattering imaging method was developed using the Mueller matrix, which in turn derived a depolarization(Dep) index from the Mueller matrix to characterize scattering media by estimating the transmittance map by combining a developed optimal function.By quantifying light attenuation with the transmittance map, a clear vision of targets can be recovered. In the process of coping with energy and environmental protection issues,technologies such as energy materials,energy devices,and energy systems have made great progress.With excellent performance,film capacitors play...In the process of coping with energy and environmental protection issues,technologies such as energy materials,energy devices,and energy systems have made great progress.With excellent performance,film capacitors play an increasingly important role in energyrelated fields.With the increase of application scenarios and the continuous development of film material technology,it is urgent to establish a better theoretical connection from films to capacitors.First,the main components of the capacitor including the film and the positional relationships among them are given.Then,from the two perspectives of indirect calculation according to the volume and the direct calculation according to the winding process,the equation between the dielectric constant of films and the corresponding capacitance of capacitors is established.Further,the measurement data and error analysis results of the built test platform prove the accuracy and great potential of the proposed calculation methods.In addition,error sources,including film thickness uniformity,are listed.Finally,the challenges faced by the proposed calculation methods and the paths that can be referenced for future research are summarised and discussed.展开更多

These tests are discussed in terms of their physiological characteristics, up-to-date technical development, and apparatus description. Test limitation and areas to improve are also introduced.
