Syzygium cumini Linn.,commonly known as Jamun,is a member of the Myrtaceae family and is also referred to by synonyms such as Eugenia djouant Perr.,Eugenia cumini,Eugenia jambolana Lam.,Syzygium jambolana Lam.,and Myrtus cumini Linn.This review provides an overview of its medicinal value,including taxonomical classification,geographic distribution,cultivation techniques,pharmacognostical aspects,phytochemical constituents,traditional uses,and pharmacological applications.In India,‘Ram Jamun’or‘Raja Jamun’is cultivated in the north,while the‘Paras’variety is grown in central regions.Various components of S.cumini fruits are utilized to enhance the nutritional quality of wines,jellies,jams,and fermented products.Rich in essential nutrients like vitamins,carbohydrates,minerals,antioxidants,and anthocyanins,S.cumini also contains bioactive phytoconstituents such as gallic acid,tannins,and polyphenols,which contribute to its pharmacological properties.Traditionally,black plums have been used as carminatives,diuretics,and remedies for stomach ailments,spleen enlargement,diarrhea,and urinary retention.Additionally,S.cumini has been historically administered to women post-abortion and is recognized for its role in managing diabetes and dysentery.Polyphenolic compounds in Jamun exhibit potential therapeutic benefits against diabetes,arthritis,cancer,asthma,and cardiovascular diseases.Given its promising ethnopharmacological profile,extensive research has been conducted on various plant parts,highlighting their antioxidant,antifungal,antibacterial,antidiabetic,and anticancer properties.This review aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of Syzygium cumini’s traditional and therapeutic significance,serving as a valuable resource for future research. 展开更多

Discovering potent drug candidates requires new antimalarial targets.For this reason,antimalarial drug researchers focus on developing new drug candidates on promising targets.In the identification of these targets,a basic understanding of the metabolism and biochemical processes of malaria parasites such as Plasmodium falciparum can prove invaluable.However,malarial resistant parasites are becoming more and more significant issues as antimalarial medications progress.Antimalarial drugs are becoming increasingly resistant,thus the search for new molecules is very important task.Artemisinin based combination therapies are becoming more popular for treating malaria.This will ultimately lead to the selection of resistance due to their extensive and indiscriminate deployment.Alternative artemisinin-based combination therapies are therefore required.There is an interest in finding suitable antimalarial compounds based on their potential effectiveness against malaria.The potential activity of 1,3,4 oxadiazole analogues against malarial infections is a major draw of the search for suitable antimalarial compounds.This review identifies existing antimalarial drugs that have own therapeutic effects and evaluating their feasibility for developing novel synthetic antimalarial derivatives. 展开更多

Background:Alzheimer’s disease affects millions of people worldwide,and one of its major characteristics is the accumulation of extracellular Aβpeptides in the human brain,leading to neuronal death and resulting in memory deficits,disorientation,and inappropriate behaviour.Objective and Methodology:This review study aims to develop new molecular targets for major depression-associated cognitive dysfunction and determine the mechanisms of action of 1,3,4-oxadiazole-based drug candidates.It encourages scientists to develop and synthesize drugs with low side effects to treat Alzheimer’s disease.Furthermore,the drug has shown significant improvement in memory function among dementia patients,which is due to the increased production of acetylcholine in the brain.These derivatives show a high affinity to amyloid plaques,which are thought to cause cognitive damage in patients with Alzheimer’s disease.This review study emphasizes newly developed inhibitors of amyloid deposition using the enzymeα-secretase,which cleaves amyloid precursor protein into smaller fragments that are toxic to neurons.1,3,4-Oxadiazole compounds have demonstrated no significant toxicity to the central nervous system.The antioxidant properties of 1,3,4-oxadiazoles can reduce free radicals,which play an active role in cell damage and disease.Conclusion:This review aims to provide readers with an overview of the current state of knowledge about oxadiazole-related drugs,emphasizing their biological importance.Key aspects related to the discovery and development of these drug candidates are discussed in detail,including information on their structure,biological activity,chemistry,and pharmacological properties.In addition,different derivatives discovered for Alzheimer’s disease to enhance the therapeutic efficiency of oxadiazole drugs have been comprehensively discussed in this review. 展开更多

Malaria is a ubiquitous tropical disease which occurs by the bite of malaria parasite of genus Plasmodium spp.The procurement and treatment of malaria depend on the cost and emergence of drug resistance,chemical compositions of drug molecules,and different complications and toxic effects associated with them.The antimalarials are classified as gametocidal,prophylaxis,blood schizonticides,tissue schizonticides and sporontocides.In addition,new antimalarial drugs have been discussed in the present review that offers the advantage singly or in combination with other drugs.The ridiculous vector control methods,appearance of drug-resistant parasites,and deficiency of effective vaccines against malaria are the main aspects responsible for the expansion of malaria.Hence,the development of a new drug is the need of hour to conquer the clinical failures of traditional chemotherapy.Though,the discovery and development of a new drug is a costly and lengthy process,hence different nanotechnological techniques may recommend hopeful approaches for the procurement of malaria amid minimum side effects.Delivery of traditional anti-malarial drugs in nanoform offers an opportunity to improve their therapeutic efficacy,reduced side-effects by targeted delivery and improved patient's compliance.This review article will critically highlight the different traditional,hybrid and new anti-malarial drugs.Moreover,different nanocarriers discovered for the site specific liberation of antimalarials to enhance the therapeutic efficiency of these drugs have been comprehensively discussed in this review. 展开更多

A large number of people worldwide suffer from pulmonary disorders,and their prevalence is on the rise.Although we have gained a greater understanding of the basis of respiratory airway disorders,the treatments and therapies available for those disorders have not progressed historically.Supplements to existing therapies are made from traditional natural derivatives and herbal medicines.Natural compounds such as these are capable of acting as the basis for developing new drugs and related treatments.Plants possess bioactive compounds that have distinct advantages over allopathic medicines because chemotherapy roots severe adverse effects rather than providing limited benefits.As a result of better effects and fewer adverse effects,herbal bioactive is a promising approach for treating respiratory disorders,resulting in a better quality of life and longer life expectancy for patients.Asthma,pulmonary fibrosis,lung cancer,and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease are among the pulmonary disorders addressed in the present article and approaches based on clinical trials. 展开更多
