李特尔于1838年用德语首创“丝绸之路”概念后,雷克吕于1881年在《新世界地理学》第6卷中第一次将“丝绸之路”一词翻译成法文。该卷第49页图11题为“亚洲中心主要线路图”,图下解说词中标示了19条中亚主要线路:①丝绸之路;②5世纪的中国人之路;③玄奘之路;④阿拉伯人之路;⑤尼克罗·波罗和马修·波罗之路;⑥马可·波罗之路;⑦根据1340年皮格罗提记录的大商道;⑧1870年的佛塞斯之路;⑨普尔热瓦尔斯基之路;⑩施拉金维特之路;(11)潘迪特之路;(12)秦神父之路;(13)弗朗西斯·加尼埃之路;(14)麦卡锡之路;(15)李希霍芬之路;(16)1872年的艾里亚斯之路;(17)索斯诺夫斯基之路;(18)库珀之路;(19)谭微道之路。本文对以上的19条中亚主要线路进行分析,其中包括7条古代和中世纪线路、12条近代线路,由此认定雷克吕首创的法译“丝绸之路”与其他18条线路并列,特指狭义的“丝国之路”,即古希腊马林乌斯、托勒密记录的商人提提亚奴斯的代理人往返“丝国”(东汉中国)时所走的商道,而不是后世泛指的广义“丝绸之路”。
Since Carl Ritter coined the word“Seidenstraße(Silk Route)”in German in 1838,its standard French version“Route de la Soie”first appeared in volume 6 ofÉlisée Reclus’Nouvelle Géographie Universelle published in 1881.In Page 49 of this volume,Reclus set in a Figure 11 entitled“Itinéraires Principaux du Centre de L’Asie”,numerating 19 chief itineraries of Central Asia:(1)Route de la Soie,(2)Chinois au 5me siècle,(3)Hsouen-tseng,(4)Arabes,(5)Nicolo et Maffeo Polo,(6)Marco Polo,(7)Gde route du commerce[d’après Pegolotti 1340],(8)Forsyth 1870,(9)Prjevalski,(10)Schlagintweit,(11)Pundites,(12)Gabet,(13)Francis Garnier,(14)McCarthys,(15)Richthofen,(16)Elias 1872,(17)Sosnovski,(18)Cooper and(19)Armand David.This article analyses Reclus’19 itineraries in proper order,discussing 7 ancient&medieval routes and 12 routes of modern Central Asian explorers.The author emphasizes the fact that Reclus’first itinerary“Route de la Soie”,appearing side by side with other 18 itineraries,did not refer to the generalized“Silk Route”in a later sense,but amounted particularly to“Route de la Sérique(Serenstraße)”followed by Agents of Maës Titianus in the first century A.D.and recored by Marinus of Tyre and Claudius Ptolemaeus.
