From the perspective of technological optimists, humans can intervene in their physiological and psychological functions through technological means, making themselves stronger and thereby enabling a happier life. Therefore, the value goal of technological enhancement is to enhance human well-being.Standing on the ground of technological optimism, transhumanism holds that humanity can overcome the limitations of natural human nature through converging technologies, thereby enhancing human well-being.However,this form of technological enhancement, which takes the enhancement of well-being as its value goal, paradoxically leads to the"dehumanization"of human beings by altering human nature, thereby deepening human suffering instead. The root cause of this paradox in the process of technological enhancement aimed at promoting human well-being lies in the overstepping use of technological enhancement and the one-sided understanding of human well-being.Therefore,to resolve the paradox of technological enhancement,it is necessary to reflect on the essence of technological enhancement from the perspective of"what it means to be human",adhere to the bottom line of human nature, prevent its overstepping use, and,on the basis of establishing a correct humanistic view of technology and properly positioning the"human-technology"relationship,ensure that technological enhancement truly serves human development.
