In anthropological studies, the distinction between"self"and"other"reflects differences in the thought processes and values of different groups.Based on fieldwork conducted in Zhu Kula Village,Binchuan County,Yunnan Province-home to China's only century-old coffee forest-this study finds that over time, coffee, initially perceived as an"other",has gradually integrated with the existing cultural norms of the Zhu Kula local society and become part of its"self–concept".This research argues that the boundary between"self"and"other"is not fixed but rather a dynamic"Division-Combination"process.In cultural practice,"objects"can transform from"other"to"self,"ultimately extending and expanding the boundaries of self-concept through various forms such as kinship terms, social relationships, and cultural heritage.
