The fusi structure, often interpreted as a screen featuring a net-like pattern, constitutes an important architectural element within the mausoleum complexes of the Han Dynasty.Recent archaeological investigations at Western Han imperial mausoleums have uncovered curved,ruler-shaped building foundations situated outside the outer gate of the precinct of the mausoleum. These are considered to represent pavilion-like structures built atop rammed earth platforms with hollow wooden superstructures.Additionally, the conspicuously widened areas at the four corners of some emperors’mausoleums likely served as the rammed earth foundations for fusi installations. These findings shed new lights on the spatial layout and symbolic architecture of Western Han imperial mausoleums.
