This paper traces the Chinese translation and dissemination of modern Vietnamese literature written in the romanized official language, especially the sensational response created by the anti-imperialist patriotic works represented by Letters from the South in the political context of China in the 1950 s-1970 s. On this basis, this paper argues that the rise and decline of the Chinese translation of modern Vietnamese literature and the"global southern literature"have profound cultural and political implications, symbolizing the changes in China's world consciousness and self-identity. On the one hand, the translation is subject to political constraints, and on the other hand,it has an active impact on China's perception of and position on other countries and the world. In the process of China's in-depth participation in the reconstruction of the world order, continued development of literary and cultural exchanges with Asian,African and Latin American countries cannot afford to be neglected.
