摘要
《了不起的盖茨比》是20世纪美国最著名的小说家菲茨杰拉德的不朽之作。该作品传播了20世纪20年代占主导地位的自我奋斗者的话语,即只要通过富兰克林式的个人奋斗就可以获取无限财富,并获得爱情和社会地位的梦想。然而"美国梦"在世袭了庞大财富的贵族阶级面前,最终难于跨越阶级鸿沟,从而导致无法逆转的毁灭命运结局。作者笔下的主人公盖茨比被赋予了典型的美国本土特征,在作者敏锐的洞察力及创造力下,将困惑整个美国民族的矛盾附着于主人公的身上,主人公盖茨比的个人困惑与失败隐喻了整个美国民族的困惑和失败,从而揭示了理想与现实之间的差距及其冲突,并阐述了"美国梦"幻灭的必然性。同时作者对"美国梦"的幻灭本质进行了讥讽。
The Great Gatsby was the masterpiece of Fitzgerald, the most famous novelist in the 20th centu- ry. This novel spreads the dominant discourse of the self made men in the 1920s. The discourse was that any one could acquire wealth, love and social status through Franklin-like personal struggle. However, in front of the noble who had inherited a huge number of wealth, it was hard for him to cross the class gap, which made him face the doomed destructive fate. The author gave the hero Gatsby a typical American fea- ture and in the author＇s acute insight and creativity, Gatsby was attached to the contradiction that puzzled the whole nation. The dilemma and failure of Gatsby were the metaphor for the whole nation, which un- covered the differences and the conflictions between the ideal and reality and finally generated the necessity of disillusion of the American dream. At the same time, the author＇satirized the nature of illusion of the A- merican dream.
