摘要
《六合丛谈》(1857年1月至1858年6月)由伟烈亚力编辑,上海墨海书馆出版,是一个兼具知识性和新闻性的刊物。它存在的时间虽不长,但它传播了近代科学的观念,介绍了一些重要的科学知识;其中《西国天学源流》一书,是针对清代流行的“西学中源”说而翻译的,对于近代天文学在清末的确立具有重要的意义。《六合丛谈》反映了以墨海书馆为中心的英国伦敦布道会传教士利用科学知识辅助传教的努力,其中传布的近代科学观念是晚清自强运动的重要思想资源之一。
Shanghae Serial(1857～1858)was founded by the English missionary Alexander Wylie, and published by London Mission Society in Shanghai. The author analyses its content and features, and discusses its contribution to the introduction of modern Western science into China in the middle of nineteenth century. He points out that the article Progress of Astronomical Discovery in the West translated by Wylie and Wang Tao was aimed at the so called “Chinese origin of Western learning″, and the idea of modern science introduced in Shanghae Serial was an important intellectual resource in the Self strengthening Movement.
